A rich guy gets zonked on the head in a freakish warehouse accident, reverting him to a child-like state. Like many boys, however chronologically placed, he develops a love of baseball and of baseball-card collecting. As the novel’s title suggests, the cards get stolen. The boy goes into an abnormally serious, life-threatening depression. The severity of his reaction no doubt owes itself to the zonking.
