Preface

The author has wielded a satirist’s pen since he began writing “Hayward’s Unabridged Dictionary” as an undergraduate at Wheaton. The work is uneven, but quite a lot in it is quotable, and it has been mistaken for Ambrose Bierce. Perhaps, as he has been told, there is too much truth in his humor, but satire is powered less by exaggeration than by unnerving truth.
