Dangerous Snacks (The Broughton Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 144 ratings

Afflicted by a mid-life crisis, Edward King is determined to find happiness, but that’s not easy when you're the head teacher of a secondary school and married to a woman like Angie.

After a bout of post-divorce depression, Sarah Pickering returns to work as Head of English at the Broughton School. She’s moving on, and men definitely don't figure in the plan. But when Mr King invites her to a conference in London, she’s unable to refuse.

Add to the recipe a Tupperware box filled with delicious doped-up brownies, a demented skinhead, a handful of snacks and an unhinged Secretary of State for Education …

Things can only go wrong.

Dangerous Snacks is the first book in The Broughton Trilogy: a comedy about love, hate and education.

Downloaded the first book for free and loved it. Ed King manages to have you cringe and feel for him at the same time. I have bought the second in the series now as I need to know what desperate measure he takes next to spice up his life.

This is a highly recommended hilarious read! Loved and hated the various characters - yes I got that involved! - and as for the secondary pupils...the laugh-out-loud dialogue has a truly authentic feel. What with peanuts, broom cupboards and a pen from Margaret Thatcher, the twists and turns come thick and fast. When book one (complimentary copy for an honest review) came to an end I couldn't wait to start the second one.

An ok read, but not hugely entertaining nor, in my opinion, hugely amusing. I was not gripped enough to be bothered overly about picking up book 2 in the series.

I did enjoy reading this book. It was funny in places and had a good story line. However some of the language was a little bit too much for my liking, I felt that it could have been toned down and still have the desired impact!!

Really funny. Based around the education system and a divorcee. But you don't need to be in education to understand the issues. Relates to any employment and leaders and day to day issues of life. Deals with serious issues in a very funny way, as long as bad language doesn't offend. But without it, it wouldn't depict a true reflection on life as it is :-)

Reaching the end of a book and realising that there is no conclusion if irritating. Having waded through a fairly dull book with no particularly appealing characters in the vain hope it might actually get somewhere I feel like I've wasted a lot of time, even having skip-read a lot of it. The trilogy could probably have been one book, but may still have been a waste of my time

Beautifully written, had me laughing at every page. A truly perfect description "a comedy about love, hate and education". Book two A Piece of Cake, is waiting for me to devour it... off I trot with my snacks of peanuts, pretzels and the aforementioned cake.

I like a book that has an ending to it. This one does not. It was funny in parts, but left me feeling incomplete.

I was all set to like this book. But to be honest, I couldn't get through the first few chapters. The writing isn't good enough to make up for the loathsome characters. I need excellent writing or at least one likable character...
