Absolutely delighted with this book.... I wanted a 'special' edition to give to my grandson. The book is a good size, beautifully laid out with not only the original illustrations but also a delightful frieze of animals on the top and bottom margins of every page. The print is clear and a good size, and the cover is blocked in gold, with a green background and the 'Elephant's Child' picture in the centre with background in red. There is also a ribbon book mark - a really lovely volume which will be memorable and I hope treasured! One final point, that although this edition was published in 2008 the book is in remarkably good condition - clearly never read, and a very little scuffing on the corners - exactly as described.

We bought this for a long car journey for our 2 and 4 year old children. Anytime we put it on, we were guaranteed a car free from screams and squabbles and usually with at least one asleep child. I put this down to the wonderful voice of Samuel West as he lugubriously describes the limpopo, every story sounding like wonderful, lazy poetry.

More surprising was how enjoyable we found it. The tales are all perfect storytelling, and I love the rhythm of them. I could listen to "The cat who walks by himself" or "the butterfly who stamped" a hundred times and still relish the tale. We might have turned it on with two sleepers in the back once or twice...

My 3 and 5 year old boys love listening to these Just So Stories in the car or in bed. The stories themselves are engaging and entertaining and Johnny Morris reads them very expressively, as those of us who grew up watching him on TV would expect. I would have rated it 5 stars but felt that there could have been more of the Just So stories on the disc.

The stories were exactly how I remembered them, but they were ruined by the mistakes that seemed to be littered throughout the book. A spelling error here and a random speech mark floating about halfway down a page might seem harmless but they soon mount up.
Although those mistakes are probably only on Kindle, it did ruin the book a little bit for me.

i remember these stories from when i was a child and they are still just as magical, they use language really beautifully, and are funny and entertaining. they are short little stories mostly so good for a variety of ages (i read them to my 9 month old).
the only problem, from our modern perspective...is that some of the language used isn't as...culturally sensitive or politically correct as you might like. so its possibly worth having a read through yourself before reading it to your kids.

This is a delightful edition of all twelve Just So Stories and includes original pen and ink illustrations. My biggest problem with this little, pocket size book is its size (16cm x 10cm) which means that the type has to be very small and, even with glasses, I found it a strain to read. This may also deter very young readers. The black and white illustrations may also not appeal to todays' children, used as they are to lots of colour. I would think that the main appeal of this book will be to parents, reading to their children, or to adults, like myself, recapturing happy memories of their childhood.

3.0 out of 5 stars かなり速い読み
Reviewed in Japan on 10 November 2018
