About the author

Hans Christian Andersen (/ˈhɑːnz ˈkrɪstʃən ˈændərsən/; Danish: [hanˀs kʰʁæsd̥jan ˈɑnɐsn̩] ( listen); often referred to in Scandinavia as H. C. Andersen; 2 April 1805 – 4 August 1875) was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's popularity is not limited to children; his stories, called eventyr in Danish or "fairy-tales" in English, express themes that transcend age and nationality.
Andersen's fairy tales, which have been translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. Some of his most famous fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling", and many more.
His stories have inspired ballets, both animated and live-action films, and plays.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2017Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseA very well thought out ebook, easy to navigate and easy to locate the story that you're after. Jam packed with Andersen's lovely fairy tales, all the favourites are here and are, of course, easy to read and just as charming as they always have been. The story of Ole-Luk-Oie, the Dream-God is here, which I've found is unusual in an Andersen collection, sadly. I've always known it as The Sandman and it's one of my favourites, if it's possible to narrow them down. Highly recommended and not just for children
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 July 2012To have all the books an poems he wrote in one place is great. There were some I had never heard of even though I had read them to my children, and now to my grandchildren.
Well worth getting if you are a fan.. There was illustrations too, which was nice.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2013So glad I ordered this book. Got it for a steal (less than 3 pounds and free shipping!) and I just love it. Beautiful collection of fairy tales.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2024Page quality is horrible, the reproduction of Arthur Reckham’s illustrations is terrible and doesn’t do any justice to the quality of artwork. The font and scale another mess.
Overall buy another descent version of this book from a good well reputed publisher. This is a terrible reproduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Class
I love the quality of this book. When I was a child my mom bought me a lot of Hans Christian Andersen's books which were huge. I was searching for them on Amazon when I came across this. I bought it for my newborn daughter so she'd have it when she grows up. And I'm sure it'll last till she has children. And of course the book has a lovely collection of Hans Christian Andersen stories.
