Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 5,694 ratings

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the creation of Scottish born author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based detective, Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of deductive reasoning (somewhat mistakenly - see inductive reasoning) and astute observation to solve difficult cases. He is arguably the most famous fictional detective ever created, and is one of the best known and most universally recognizable literary characters in any genre. Conan Doyle wrote four novels and fifty-six short stories that featured Holmes. All but four stories were narrated by Holmes' friend and biographer, Dr. John H. Watson, two having been narrated by Holmes himself, and two others written in the third person. The first two stories, short novels, appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887 and Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890. The character grew tremendously in popularity with the beginning of the first series of short stories in The Strand Magazine in 1891; further series of short stories and two serialized novels appeared almost right up to Conan Doyle's death in 1930. The stories cover a period from around 1878 up to 1903, with a final case in 1914. in this collection you will find:

Novels:
• A Study in Scarlet
• The Sign of the Four
• The Hound of the Baskervilles
• The Valley of Fear

Short Story Collections:
• The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
• The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
• The Return of Sherlock Holmes
• His Last Bow

I am absolutely delighted with "Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection." This compilation truly lives up to its promise of unraveling the mysteries of the world's greatest detective. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's brilliant storytelling and the captivating adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are brought together in this beautifully presented collection.

The sheer depth and complexity of Holmes' deductive reasoning and analytical prowess are masterfully depicted throughout the collection. The intricate plots and clever twists kept me engaged from the very first page to the last. Each story is a gem on its own, showcasing Holmes' unparalleled ability to solve even the most baffling of cases.

The set itself is a work of art. The design, quality, and attention to detail make this collection a true collector's item. The hardcover binding and crisp pages add to the overall experience, making it a pleasure to hold and read.

For any fan of mystery, detective fiction, or simply classic literature, this collection is an absolute must-have. Whether you're new to the adventures of Sherlock Holmes or revisiting these timeless tales, you'll find yourself immersed in a world of intrigue, suspense, and intellect that has stood the test of time.

I always enjoyed reading Sherlock Holmes books, and each one read never failed to disappoint. This one didn't. My favourite part about this book was when Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson captured the renowned German spy von bork, and when they broke into a black mailers house. I thoroughly recommend this book to people hoe joy mystery and thriller.

Taking time out from work I thought I would read all of the Sherlock Holmes adventures and they are all thoroughly entertaining - from the more famous novels to the more brief encounters.

The short stories especially are pacey (and sometimes a little stretching in their results) and provide an interesting insight into the social times in which they were written - with many of the criminal motivations being as relevant today.

I was immersed from the very start and have finished with a sense of sad fulfillment - much as the great detective has on having completed one job and being in wait of his next.

    Delicious reading and fabulous escapism.

    Great fun and very enjoyable.

This hardcover volume contains the complete works of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It contains "A Study in Scarlet", "The Sign of Four", "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes", "Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes", "The Return of Sherlock Holmes", the acclaimed classic, "The Hound of the Baskervilles", "The Valley of Fear", "His Last Bow", and "The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes". It really is the complete complete works. It tells of Watson's first meeting with Sherlock Holmes and all the small case they solve (or rather Holmes solves, Watson goes "ahhhh")
The whole book is attractively bound and would make an excellent gift. The hard back cover and dust jacket make it look like it's worth alot more than Amazon charge!
I would recommend this book to anyone, and I mean anyone. Most people who haven't read Sherlock Holmes turn their nose up at it. I was the same. Then I read it! After all, it's elementary, dear reader!!!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist!

This is a very large book - and the font size is very tiny - because there's a lot in it! It presents the "complete Sherlock Holmes" adventures, written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Given that you can purchase this book - in hardback - for under £1 (secondhand) I have to highly recommend it! I paid £7 for a new copy, and was pleased with the quality.

It's not quite 'complete' (as a new short story has been discovered since this volume was published). And it's certainly not a 'deluxe' edition ... if you're after something more aesthetically attractive, I would recommend Sherlock Holmes 6-Book Boxed Set: Containing: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles & The ... & The Sign of the Four (Collector's Library).

Notwithstanding the limitations of this volume, it's a good quality book - with all the classic Holmes adventures in it. If you're after a reasonably priced edition, this is a good product.

What amazing value. All the novels and short stories together and even better, there are audio links included for a narrated version.

The book is indexed at the beginning and it's easy to flick back and forth or chose a place anywhere you wish to start. I've read a few of the short stories and no typos or formatting issues. Hyperlinks are seamless and I'm very pleased. Well over 1500pp in total ( it took a few minutes to download!)

I know it's free and shouldn't really grumble but 10 short stories are missing. That's not exactly 'complete' now is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Une plongée dans l'univers du détective légendaire
Reviewed in France on 20 November 2024

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, comprehensive Sherlock Holmes collection.
Reviewed in the United States on 25 February 2017
Like many people, I was familiar with Sherlock to since childhood. I'd read a couple of stories in high school, seen a few Sherlock Holmes movies. This collection of Sherlock Holmes stories contains an exhaustive collection of original Sherlock Holmes stories written in Victorian English. I loved these stories, both novels and novella's. I appreciated the ability to highlight a word and get the definition because I was unfamiliar with.many of the old English words and terms. Even for a rabid reader, this collection offers many hours of reading. It kept my interest all through the collection because no one story is too long in and of itself. The writing is so convincing that I had to look up Sherlock Holmes after finishing reading the collection because I was convinced Watson and Holmes must have been real people! I thoroughly enjoyed being transported back in time to 1880's and 1890's London where Holmes done most of his work. Doyle's descriptions of the man and the places he lived and worked are amazingly vivid. Nearly every time I was sure I had a case figured out, I would be surprised at the outcome and would find myself saying "of course, that was so obvious!" I would recommend this collection for everyone from teens through retirees! I came to love the stories that contained the infamous Professor Moriarty, Holmes' chief nemesis. I also enjoyed meeting Holmes brother, Mylof, who, though blessed with the same uncanny ability for deductive reasoning as his more famous brother, instead used his skills in service to the English government instead of crime fighting. Whether you're familiar with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson's adventures, or have never read a Sherlock Holmes book, I believe most people will find this collection to be addictive reading once you start. There are some typos, and unless you're a scholar in vintage English language, you will probably do as I did and consult the embedded dictionary often, but I was truly sorry when I read the last story. I read at least 2 or 3 stories a day for weeks and yet I crave more. For a free book, you can't go wrong here. Go ahead, give it a shot... I think you'll be happy you did!
