The Long Way Home Kindle Edition
The past clings to me like a dark shadow, whispering reminders of everything I’ve lost, everything I’ve destroyed. The guilt is suffocating, a painful weight I can’t escape. I carry it like a scar carved into my soul, and some days, I wonder if happiness was ever meant for me.
If I even deserve to want it.
I have pushed everyone away, including my best friend, Linc.
My anchor.
He refuses to let me drown in darkness. He makes me feel again. He gives me hope. And that scares me more than the pain ever did.
Because hope is dangerous.
Hope can break what little is left of me.
But maybe… just maybe… it can save me, too.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2017Wow what a powerful story... It begins with Sylvie and Linc and ends with Sylvie and Linc! but be prepared for everything in between because Sylvie takes you on a real rollercoaster of a ride and plays on your emotions like you wouldn't believe.
Sylvie and Linc share a special bond, they are still only young at 16/17yrs old but their feelings for each other start to shift. They never quite know how the other feels plus they each worry about ruining their friendship by revealing more so they don't.
Time runs out for Linc and Sylvie ends up in the arms of Dean Winters, you can't help feeling a little nervous and apprehensive it all seems to be moving too fast.
Even at this early stage you feel sad and disappointed because Sylvie and Linc had plans but it just wasn't meant to be.
Sylvie finds herself pregnant at 17yrs and about to be married to Dean.. who not too long ago wasn't even on the scene but life happens. Dispite this, Linc is still there for Sylvie and this only confirms what we suspected from the very beginning... Linc has a heart of gold and his feelings for Sylvie have never faultered.
It's not long before the cracks start to appear for Sylvie, her marriage to Dean becomes a real struggle for many reasons, she's trying to hold things together, their daughter Caroline being the main concern but as Dean becomes more unpredictable which is not only caused by his addiction but his illness too couple that with the built up rage he holds onto knowing that Sylvie still keeps in touch with Linc almost sends him over the edge. One things for sure... you end up with mixed feelings about Dean, he's a good guy deep down but he has too many demons he couldn't control and for that it was very sad. When you think how appealing Dean came across when Sylvie met him for the first time to how he ended up he seemed like a different guy...like I said very sad.
As this brilliant storyline continues so does Sylvie's unhappiness, you can feel something brewing and to be honest Dani who is Dean's sister doesn't help matters... it's hard to see a way out of the mess it certainly isn't for the want of trying on Sylvie's behalf.
Just as Sylvie finds the courage to leave the inevitable happens and again Sylvie's life takes another dramatic turn and this is where this story picks up again. We have been going from past to present throughout and with Linc showing up in Sylvie's life again you can only hope but Sylvie is riddled with guilt and she try's to push Linc away but he's having none of it.
Time seems to be healing for Sylvie courtesy of Linc but there's one person that seems to be a cause for concern and that's Dani... again unpredictable you know she's going to strike but it's a matter of when, where and how! It happens and it's a very anxious time for all concerned, thankfully it's a positive outcombe but it doesn't come without more grief and sadness that is Dani and Dean.
This story has been written with a lot of thought, care and attention with delicate issues incorporated throughout add to that the emotional element... at times it becomes unbearably sad. However Sylvie and Linc ended up where they were supposed to be and we got a beautiful ending.!
Absolutely Perfect.!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 February 2017I kindly received this book for an honest review.
I've loved all of K. Langston's books her story's just grab your heart and don't let go, but after reading Sylvie my god does she take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride through ups and downs of this amazing characters life.
Sylvie is such a beautiful soul once you have her friendship u have it for ever....Enter the very charming Lincoln Matthews who sets his sights on Sylvie at a young age, he doesn't give her a choice he will be her friend and soon best friend who protects her with everything in him. S the years roll by their friendship grows and their love for each other little do each other realise at the time...they just can't seem to say it.
During a beach party Sylvie meets the good looking dean winters who can't seem to stop looking at her, his dark, mysterious and he intrigues her. As they build on friendship it quickly leads to a stronger connection between them much to Linc's dismay who doesn't like dean but being the guy he is never stands in her way of happiness even at his own expense. Even though u want to hate dean you do start to feel his struggles even though he does things to cause upset there is a story behind them.
Linc is a kind of guy who always pushes Sylvie to take a chance on life whether it's to challenge her fears or her emotions. Oh and by he way our man can sing.....sigh!!
This book is truly stunning in every sense of the word, you feel the authors love for this story through out, her whole heart and soul went into this and especially Sylvie who has stolen my heart. Trust me you will not put this book down one of the best books this year for me...buy it now!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2017Sylvie, Lincoln and Dean's story is highly charged, emotional and heartbreaking.
Guilt is hard to live with for Sylvie, especially when it comes to moving on, sometimes you have to give yourself a break in order to heal the pain of the past. Also it might be the one who promised to be your friend forever, no matter what might happen in yours or their lives.
This might be a love triangle, but there is no cheating. This is about denying yourself your true love, when someone else comes between you before you get the chance to confess your love. However, sometimes you're destined to be together, even after the heartache and denying yourself and feeling guilt.
So can Sylvie heal with a little help enough to move on for the happiness she deserves, because sometimes you just have to put yourself first.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 February 2017It's taken me a long time to write this review (since I received the ARC) because I could not simply come up with the right words to describe the beautiful writing and I still don't think I can. This book will touch the hearts of many, it focuses on a subject that alot of people will find is close to their hearts (I know I certainly did). K. Langston has done an amazing job in writing about such a serious subject. This book is beautiful and I will recommend it to everyone. 2 words....simply beautiful xx

5.0 out of 5 stars *****5 ‘Salvation Kisses’ STARS*****
Have you ever wanted something with everything in you, but you let fear talk you out of it? Let fear tell you not to try, don’t rock the boat, you’ll fail? K. Langston’s new release Sylvie is an incredibly raw and real story of a girl and a boy – best friends forever – and their heartbreaking and painful roadmap to forgiveness and love after longing, fear and the inexperience of youth had put them on another course. I was immersed from page one in this beautiful journey of the human heart – past and present.
“Mama says love doesn’t always need a reason, it speaks from the irrational wisdom of the heart.”
Sylvie Dawson (h) and Lincoln/Linc Matthews (H) became forever friends one afternoon in grade school. Thick as thieves, these two would grow up intuitively accepting each other and learning all there is to know about each other, always there for one another. As the years pass and feelings grow it’s easy to listen to the little voice telling them not to jeopardize their friendship with romantic entanglement. It wouldn’t be until Sylvie meets another man while starving for affection and belonging, that Linc would realize his mistake in listening to his fears. Sylvie’s inability to tell Linc how she really feels plays right into the attention and affection Dean Winters is paying her. Lost to the novelty of lust and new love it would be years before she realizes her mistake in listening to her fears – letting them lead her away from Linc.
“There are moments that mark our lives. Moments when we realize nothing will ever be the same and time is divided into two parts. Before and after.”
So. Many. Feels. This story is an agonizing yet stunning story of young love unrealized, lost and then regained. The multifaceted characters of Sylvie, Dean and Linc never failed to take my breath away, make me sob or delight me. That feeling of impending heartache and doom killed me as I watched Linc and Sylvie succumb to the fears of ‘what if this doesn’t work’ and turn away from their feelings before they ever took a chance. I felt like I was watching an accident knowing I could do nothing to stop it – eyes wide open waiting for impact unable to look away knowing there’d be carnage. I understood why, they’re both so young and afraid to lose the friendship they have, but as I watched Sylvie fall in love with Dean a piece my heart died and I ached for both Linc and Sylvie knowing this was the beginning of the end – in so many different ways. Add in that Sylvie truly loves Dean in a different but no less important way than Linc and then the complexities of the story starting to unfold through carefully paced flashbacks and I was devastated. The narrative is so purposeful and focused, the feelings are a tangible entity, almost another character in their depth and sentiment; I spent a lot of time grabbing my chest, shaking my head and cursing at my kindle. Sylvie is so lost in life, unsure what she’s supposed to do next, so anxious over the possibility that Linc will never love her. Dean arrives in a perfect storm of Sylvie’s emotions and whether it’s meant to be or not she falls for a broken man that hides his problems all too well – for the time being. The triangle of anger, hurt, love and longing from these three as they push and pull each other apart shows the insecurities, guilt and shame each of them carry in different and harmful ways. Ultimately, Sylvie is not just a second chance love story, it’s a LIFE story. It’s ugly and beautiful and hard to take; tender and romantic and tear-jerking. A story of regretting your choices, not letting the past define your future, learning from your mistakes, forgiving yourself and taking a chance on the biggest gift of all – love…even when you think you don’t deserve it.
“Sometimes, the most important lessons in life are the ones we learn the hard way.”
An evocative love story that seemingly died before it lived only to see that love always prevails if only you have the courage to believe in yourself, it left me euphoric and drunk on the power of a tale I didn’t expect and adored all the more for its raw heartfelt messages. A love hard fought…and won.
“I swear, every time our lips touch I can taste the next sixty years of my life.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional
Sylvie isn’t a book you just read and move on afterwards. It is a book that will leave you thinking long after the end. The story of Sylvie, Linc, Caroline, and Dean is not an easy or light-hearted one, but each character will touch your heart in a way that will stay with you for a long time.
“But love saved me. Love mended the pieces of my soul and brought me back to life. Love gave me hope.”
Sylvie. Beautiful, broken yet strong, Sylvie. She has been dealt a hand of cards that seems unfair to such a young person, but she is a person who just keeps going no matter what. After all, that is what amazing mothers do. They keep going despite their hardships. Sylvie loved a man who to some could be difficult to love and that to me says the most about her as a person.
“No need to thank me for something I was born to do.”
Linc is everything you want in a book boyfriend. Hard-working, a musician, and a deep love for a girl that knows no bounds and has no time limit on waiting to have her in his arms. He has always been there for Sylvie and Caroline no matter the tumultuous relationship he and Dean had.
Dean broke my heart. He is not an easy guy to love for most of the book, but he is an important part of Sylvie and Caroline. He needed love more than anyone besides Sylvie in the present. If someone listens to one part of my review, I BEG you to not make a final judgement on him until the very end.
This book had me crying more than I would like to admit. The wounds of everyone are deep and are written so well you will feel their pain to your bones. This book is for anyone who has loved someone difficult to love and for anyone who has loved someone from far away a long time before getting their chance.

I don't know what else to say but Sylvie is amazing. Again K Langston tackles a sensitive subject and does it perfectly. I would recommend it to everyone who love a tear jerker with a strong heroine, a perfect love story, a bit of suspense, a guy that just makes you swoon and the perfect amount of hot sex.
