- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2019I've been in project management for a while and have read plenty of books on the discipline. This is one of the most refreshing books I've read on project management for some time. Full of useful and practical ideas. I love the story telling format of the book also. Had me laughing out loud at times but learning at the same time. More professional books such be written in this manner.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2019I very much enjoyed this book. What a wonderful idea the author used to explain project management rather than the detailed, boring texts on this discipline.
I have some project management experience, but still found I learnt and was reminded of some key areas of importance.
It is interesting how even multinational companies can go so wrong on projects by not applying the basics. For example, the project charter (terms of reference); simply writing down what the project is meant to deliver and how and ensuring all stakeholders agree. Even defining and regularly consulting stakeholders can be ignored which can happen in IT projects when the rest of the business is reluctant to venture into technical areas. And let's not forget suppliers who will often push and push for progress to the detriment of proper project management so that they can achieve their revenue recognition dates.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 November 2023Through a nice story the book takes you through the fundamental of Project management and who knows, it might provide an explanation on how big projects were managed in antiquity 😏!
I strongly recommend it👍
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2023There are countless sources out there on construction project management, it's as if the guru's want to complicate it so that they stay in the forefront. This book gives you enough to tackle that first small project and that second meatier project by giving you the basics, as they should be explained. A lot has been said about communicating by story, this book proves the theory.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 December 2023Easy to read
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2021All in all, I think it is worth a read considering it is only £6, the book is well structured and the storytelling method of the Pyramids is effective, I did however find myself getting confused with all the character names I think simpler names would have worked a bit better... I'm a student and thought it was a good read to help with my assignments and for £6 I was happy...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 January 2023I found this book has what many (all..?) other Project Management books lack - examples of HOW to apply processes on a project. The "building a pyramid" scenario makes it really easy to understand, and makes for a light-hearted but informing read. Recommended, particularly for new or accidental PM's.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2020I've been a project manager for 15 years, and have had to learn so many skills to be able to overcome problems with people, technology, finances, risk, scheduling and a myriad of other things that many people don't fully appreciate. Put simply, anyone can manage a project badly, but a really good project manager can take a project destined for failure and keep it on track. Bad project managers tend to get nasty surprises, good Project Managers always seem to have good luck.
So, who is this book for. Not really me, but it's VERY extended metaphor/narrative is entertaining, humorous, and provides tangible context for why many of the PM capabilities are important, and how they are connected to a projects outcome.
I have many people come to me wanting to be a Project Manager (god knows why!). This is now my goto book to send them away with, before coming back and talking properly. Many never return, others get aligned to the fact that it's not just Gantt charts and telling people what to do.
You don't get many "casual" books about Project Management so its a breath of fresh air to have one like this, just don't expect the Harry Potter of PM.
One minor negative, the physical quality of the book was a bit lacking. It felt like one of those low print run independent self published books you see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soft and easy
It’s a very nice book to introduce the principles of the Project Management Art. Although a little bit superficial, it is quite good and easy to read and the idea of applying the concepts in the story of the pyramids creation is sensational!

2.0 out of 5 stars Long winded
I'm still trying to get to the point. I've been a project manager for several years and thought I'd brush up on a few aspects for my new career path. But...I'm still trying to find the point. The focal points are buried.
