Abraham: Living the Life of Faith (The Bible Teacher's Guide Book 13) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

How can we truly live a life of faith? Over 4,000 years ago, God called a man named Abraham to begin a wonderful journey of faith with him. Abraham was a pagan who worshiped idols; however, he left his home, family, and security to follow God. God called Abraham to be a centerpiece in his plan to redeem all people (Gen 12:1–3). All nations would be blessed through him, as he was the father of Israel—God’s priests—and an ancestor of Jesus—the one who gave his life to save the world (John 3:16).

Because of Abraham’s great faith, he is called the father of all who believe (Gal 3:7). Though each person’s faith journey is unique, we all encounter similar trials and tribulations, joys and victories, as Abraham did. And like him, we are called to be lights in a dark world that denies God. As we study Abraham, we learn how to faithfully live our life of faith. We cover topics like following God’s call, passing God’s test, conquering habitual sins, responding to conflict, experiencing God’s power, and much more. Let’s study Abraham’s life together with the Bible Teacher’s Guide:

“Expositional, theological, and candidly practical! I highly recommend The Bible Teacher’s Guide for anyone seeking to better understand or teach God’s Word.”
—Dr. Young–Gil Kim, Founding President of Handong Global University

“Helpful to both the layman and the serious student, The Bible Teacher’s Guide, by Dr. Greg Brown, is outstanding!”
—Dr. Neal Weaver, President of Louisiana Baptist University

    Would you like to sit down with Abraham for a long visit? Of course, that is impossible. When you read this book by Gregory Brown, you will almost feel that you have met and talked with Abraham. The book is detailed without being laborious. It is practical without being overly technical concerning language. If you want a good illustration of good teaching, then this is the book for you. The author effectively applies principles from Abraham's life to the New Testament. This is one of the best and most thorough books that you will find concerning the life of Abraham. Teachers, pastors and ordinary Christian will all benefit from reading and studying this book.

    With Abraham: Living the Life of Faith, Gregory Brown has written an excellent Bible study guide. Using the lives of Abraham and Sarah, he takes us through several aspects of their walk with God, including: trials,strengthening faith, encouragement, strengthening family, how to experience God's power, becoming a friend of God and how to find a Godly mate. With each topic that Brown covers, he includes a Big Question to consider, along with Interpretation Questions and Application Questions. The Appendix includes Group Study Tips and Reflection Questions.

    It's obvious that this is not the first Bible study that Brown has authored. And this one is overflowing with true gems of wisdom and practical application. Both from the Bible and from Brown's own life.

    I received a copy of Abraham: Living the Life of Faith in exchange for this review.

    Another 5 stars for this Bible Teacher's Guide. It is the third book by Gregory Brown I've read and I'm still surprised how much deep truth he finds and reveals in biblical narratives and passages of the Bible I thought I really knew and had understood. It seems there's no end studying Scripture. We'll never be able to say: Now I'm done, I got it all.
    Living the life of faith is not always easy, but it's worth the effort. Abraham's life wasn't perfect, but even through his failures we can learn a lot.
    Although this book is incredibly well researched it is still easy to read and very practicable for study groups. The questions go deep and are quite often challenging.
    This book - as are all of this series - is a book for those who want to dig deeper and look objectively at their own life of faith.

    As always, author Gregory Brown uses his knowledge of the Bible and thorough research to create an environment that cultivates Christ-like attitudes based on God's Word. This book touched my heart. I found it is full of advice I can apply to my every day life.

    The story of Abraham is inspiring yet cautionary, and Brown uses both aspects to draw upon the rich wealth of knowledge the Bible imparts to us about this faith-filled man. I think many of us can relate to the struggles of Abraham's life. Through the study of God's Word, alongside this helpful guide, we will find a plethora of wisdom that will shape, challenge, and bless our lives as we strive to be more like Jesus Christ.

    I was provided a copy of this book in the case that I wanted to review it. All opinions are my own.

    Abraham: Living the Life of Faith is yet another resource in The Bible Teacher’s Guide series by pastor Greg Brown. This book encourages the reader to look to Abraham as a model of faith and obedience. This book presents the reader with the biblical text and then asks the reader to apply through discerning questions. The pattern of observation, interpretation, and application will serve the reader as a model throughout their Christian life. The author’s style is accessible and each chapter has sections and headers to aid the reader. The book has a pastoral style and the study guide applies the life of Abraham to topics such as trials, temptations, and growth in faith. This book points to practical actions that the reader can take when they have meditated on God’s word and the life of Abraham. This latest installation in the series will prove helpful to small groups, bible studies, or personal enrichment.

    Abraham: Living the Life of Faith by Gregory Brown is an expositional study
    that digs deep into Abraham's walk with God as found in Genesis chapters 12 through 24.

    Topics include:

    Understanding God's Call;
    The Believers' Response to Trials;
    Responding in Faith to Conflict;
    How to Rescue a Fallen Brother;
    How to Battle Fear, Doubt, and Discouragement;
    How to Strengthen our Faith;
    How to Protect Our Family;
    How to Experience God’s Power in Our Lives;
    Becoming a Friend of God;
    Characteristics of Worldly Believers;
    Friends of the World;
    Twelve Steps to Conquering Habitual Sins;
    Experiencing God’s Promises;
    How to Pass God’s Tests;
    How to Respond to Death in a God-honoring Way; and
    Finding a Godly Mate

    Greg's work is timely and much needed, given the vicious and unrelenting attacks on faith and the family.
    If you are looking to boost your faith walk or need encouragement for the journey, this book is a must-read!
    It is not for the faint of heart; there's a lot to cover,
    as the author goes in depth to explain and explore all the important points.
    The questions at the end of each chapter provide a focused guide for individual or group study.
    I suggest you have a notepad or book and your Bible handy to take notes and look up references.
    There is a lot to gain from this book, and Greg Brown has done us a wonderful service in providing this valuable resource.

    Note: I was given a copy of this book, in the event that I wanted to review it.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Strap in - Learning to live by faith is about to get real!
    Reviewed in the United States on 10 March 2017
    I always look forward to reading and digging into the Word with BTG and Greg. Past books have been beneficial to me and to others that I minister with. This latest book on Abraham is no different.
    Greg's style is refreshing - His Big Question at the beginning of each chapter gets the mind focused on the journey. But, the Application Questions throughout give one the sign posts and scenic overviews that really get to the heart of the teaching. Not only is this study good for personal renewal and encouragement but, this study is excellent for Small Groups. These questions when coupled with the Small Group Appendix General Questions, lively and meaningful discussion can be realized and real growth can be achieved.
    In my opinion the chapter on 12 Steps to Conquering Habitual Sins is a must read. I title it, How to Live More Fully in God's Grace.
    I am pleased to give a five star rating on this book and look forward to more from a godly man who is using his giftedness to serve the Body.
