- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2024Nice looking book containing all the original stories that we grew up on, and many that we have probably never encountered before.
Looks and feels like books used to especially with the old style illustrations. maybe some of the stories are a bit dark for the very young but makes a great gift for those who are slightly older.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 May 2013Bought this after watching the Grimm TV series on DVD so I could get an idea as to what stories were what.
This is a great collection and the stories aren't pages and pages long (which can be surprising considering the recent versions) so you can quite easily read a few and put it down to come back to.
Be aware though that these stories are written in the original style so may come across a bit strange, once you've got used to it they are cool (although not every story is the saccharin happy ending that kids may be used to!).
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 August 2020The Chartwell edition text is Margaret Hunt's translation of 1897. Probably the same translation used by many as it will be out of copyright. So the language is from 1897 - thee thou thine, and feels a little archaic today, but not difficult to read.
The paper is smooth white matt, and fine (just as well for 600 pages of it). It is printed in a nice clear font, and easy to read. The illustrations are printed on the same paper in black and white. Some work better than others. Some seem a little blocked up, where others are quite light, and some are like paper cut silhouettes. i would have thought them by different artists but the only attribution is to Arthur Rackham.
The dust jacket is matt green paper. The binding underneath is plain green cloth - don't expect any fancy covering or gilt work that might be described in some of the other reviews - they do not belong to the Chartwell edition.
When I bought this it was about £8, remarkably cheap for a 600 page book of this quality. A good book, but I am looking for updated English, better illustration and better binding. (cant expect that for £8). If you just want to read the stories then I cannot fault this edition.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2016This is a very good collection of tales, presented in hardback with colour illustrations, as was first published in 1812. This book has been highly influential, shaping Western popular culture for two centuries. From it, we've acquired such stories as Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Cinderella.
This is a deluxe edition of the Grimm brothers' stories. And it presents them in their original - adult - manner, with violence and sex-innuendo included. There are numerous tales to be found here, some short and others long, all originating from pre- and early modern Europe.
Not really for children. But adults with a taste for literary adventure should enjoy this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2023I have always wanted to read these tales and now find myself able to do so now I own a tablet. I am, however quite saddened that the ebook version has no illustrations - they obviously add to the fantasy! So, although I am happy that I am finally reading them, I can't help feel cheated.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2021If you're like me & wish they made book covers as beautiful now as they did in the past, you'll love this.
I don't rate this book 5 stars for its stories, we all know them...it is 5 stars for the absolute beauty that it is! Truth be told i haven't sat and read the stories, only flicked through, I bought this book for the cover design - to look pretty on my bookshelf, and OH BOY it has not let me down!
However it is letting my bank balance down as now I want to buy more vintage-esque hardbacks to scatter through my bookcase to break up the mundane modern-ness.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2015Fabulous books, beautiful to look at very luxurious and expensive in details and a fabulous present for disconcerning friends. I love fairy stories and I bought these for myself to read again. I may well buy more classic books as there are numerous in the collection including now shakespeare, brontes, bram stoker, mary shelley, jane austin, lewis carroll and so it goes on. I could certainly add another 6 at least. The books are about a 10 inches high, have embossed leather covers, both colour and black and white illustrations and are truly a treasure to read and to own. Arrived in perfect packaging absolutely flawless. Cannot fault in any way and HIGHLY recommend them as products and as suppliers. Price was excellent too for the product received. 11/10.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2017The day it arrived I was so excited , I could not wait to get it out of the packaging. What I saw before me was pure beauty. The cover is a vivid red with gold writing giving it a somewhat old feeling to it and the illustration is amazing.I was already content. The only thing that surprised me was the thickness of the pages. They are quite thin , but that's not stopping me from grabbing it and reading it. As it just arrived today I haven't been able to read it , but I would recommend the book to anyone as it's in great quality and it's quite cheap. Also everyone should be introduced into the mesmerizing world of The Brothers Grimm's. Do not miss out !

Esta edición de historias completas de los hermanos Grimm me parece increíble. La tapa dura y resistente, los detalles en las páginas, los bordes dorados en las hojas, las ilustraciones... Me encanta.

3.0 out of 5 stars Publishing Error
This is a lovely publication with a wonderful cover and original unabridge stories created by the Brothers Grimm. What a pitty that more care was not carried out with the locations of the picture plates as it is out of sequence with the index and the stories.

I have always wanted a copy of Grimm’s Fairytales, so I was thrilled to find this complete version, and in a hardcover too! I haven’t read any of the tales yet, but I had no idea there were so many! I just love this! Cover and print is of outstanding quality, as is the artwork scattered throughout!
