I read it? No I devoured it! And I find it remarkable, REMARKABLE! I feel it is a very important piece drenched with historical goodies. I for one, for instance, never realized that the Third Reich meant Germany! I mean don’t get me wrong World War II? Oooh... too dark, too depressing. But throw in a line of beautiful girls dressed as storm troopers each one a gem. With leather boots and whips on their hips. Its risqué, dare I say, S&M! German soldiers dancing through Russia in very tight pants. And wait there's more! The heroine Eva Turn turn kick turn, turn turn kick turn, one two three kick turn! Keeping it sassy, keeping it classy and keeping it gay!
So it’s Spring-time for Craven & Amazon! Winter for boredom and apathy! Get yours TODAY!
(A rollicking romp through operation Barbarossa and the Russian Urals with Eva & Chainbridge)

The above is a bit of fun but the book is a well written historical thriller/spy novel and well worth a read.

    DAD KNOWS BEST!

I originally bought the paperback of Get Lenin for my father as he enjoys a good war book. He enthused about it so I treated myself to a copy for my kindle.
Dad was right! Robert Craven has written a thoughtful and well-planned novel. From the beginning Craven gives us some vividly described characters and some history to each. His heroine Eva is a gorgeous sexy woman who after suffering a great loss uses her feminine charms to her advantage during desperate times and those of her `employers'.

I liked the scene setting, and Robert Craven has obviously done his WW2 homework - I learnt a lot reading the book and yet despite the history thrown out in liberal doses I found Get Lenin an easy read.

The story is exciting, it kept me enthralled throughout. My only complaint was that the ending was slightly weaker. Because of that I feel the book merits a 4.5 star award instead of the full Monty. (5***** goes to Mr Craven's second book - but that is a different review.)
Overall highly recommended and even if you are not a history or WW2 fan don't be put off - this is a good read.

Robert Craven's 'GET LENIN' has everything going for it - a great plot, interesting characters for the reader to root for, and a style that's easy on the eye. The author's ability to accurately set his scenes is the obvious result of research, but it takes a special kind of creativity to come up with a highly enjoyable and believable fictional story against a strict historical background. Craven pulls it off effortlessly. His heroine, Eva Molenaar, draws the reader into her trials and tribulations, inviting your edge-of-the-seat support for what she has to face. Easy to predict she could become one of the best new creations for some time. This is a book that deserves your full attention. If you start reading it, you'll find you don't have an option.

This book 'Get Lenin' was a treat to read. Whilst giving plenty of historic detail it had a ripping story that kept me wanting to read and not put it down.
While the actual storyline is fictional the narrative is superb and so well crafted.
Readers of this particular genre will enjoy this fast paced novel with interesting characters, twists and turns and unexpected outcomes. A masterpice.
This one book I wil re-read again and again.

Any book about WW2 is good for me but some of the plot pushed the boundaries. I am also sure that a Hollywood film cameraman working for the Nazi's would not use 8mm film. 16 mm would be the obvious choice.

... There's a new spy master on the block. Ok, maybe this isn't quite as complicated as other spy novels, but the characters were well drawn and believable. I don't care about the history behind the story - it felt real and that is what matters. What I really liked was that some of the baddies came from where you expect the good guys to be - and some of the good guys started off as baddies. Hitler made a cameo appearance, like a film director moving in a crowd scene of a movie, giving the plot that added touch of possibility. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this and hope it goes far.

Where to start... I avoid books about war like the plague. I think I was traumatised in my school years from having to learn everything about the great wars by heart for my Baccalaureat in History, now I just worry that even stories on a background of war will read like a history book.
But sometimes you just realise how good it is to come out of your comfort zone and tackle the odd demon. I'm glad I've read Get Lenin. And no, it doesn't read like a history book at all. I was totally drawn to Eva's character. She's a very interesting woman, but somehow there's also a certain halo of mystery surrounding her... Fits right in with her role as a spy !
I did get lost a bit half-way through the book, with all the characters, but I'm glad I kept going... Once I got to the action I was drawn straight back into the book.
Definitely worth a read. And I will tag Zinnman to my TBR right away, I'm curious to know what's going to happen to Eva next...

The story of the book could be interesting to fans of this genre, but I as a non-fan of spy books found the story rather boring. And the book was terribly edited at that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and interesting read !

You don't need to be a world war buff to enjoy this book. I prefer hardcore fast paced murder mysteries, and so assumed that this will be a quick, rather OK sorta read to kill time. But boy was I wrong ! I am amazed how quick I got sucked into this novel.

This is a spy novel. These spies however are not equipped with fancy toys (designed for them well ahead of their time). These are believable flawed people who survive in field based on on their sharp minds, and in case of some like the main protagonist named Eva .... their beauty too. The author did a brilliant job giving just enough background information about the characters to keep the readers interested... no more no less.

The story is described well in the description, and I don't think adding more is going to do much. All I can say is that its a decently priced book that is a joy to read !

5.0 out of 5 stars Eine Spionin, schön, mutig und traurig
Reviewed in Germany on 13 March 2013

Lesetipp!
