Journey beneath the diplomatic veneer of international politics and beyond the reach of conventional military operations into the epicenter of clandestine affairs - where diplomats dance and spies collide in wars that never make the news.

For the next step in its expansionist agenda, the Kremlin devises a covert coup far more devastating than Bin Laden's most dangerous dream. About the Author

Tim began his career in Soviet Counterintelligence with the US Army Special Forces, the Green Berets. That was back in the Cold War days when, "We learned Russian so you didn't have to," something he did at the Presidio of Monterey alongside Recon Marines and Navy SEALs. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tim switched from espionage to arbitrage. Armed with a Wharton MBA rather than a Colt M16, he moved to Moscow in the midst of Perestroika. There, he lead prominent multinational medical companies, worked with cosmonauts on the MIR Space Station (from Earth, alas), chaired the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, and helped write Russia's first law on healthcare. Moving to Brussels during the formation of the EU, Tim ran Europe, Middle East, and Africa for a Johnson & Johnson company and traveled like a character in a Robert Ludlum novel. He eventually landed in Silicon Valley, where he launched new medical technologies as a startup CEO. In his free time, Tim has climbed the peaks of Mount Olympus, hang glided from the cliffs of Rio de Janeiro, and ballooned over Belgium. He earned scuba certification in Turkey, learned to ski in Slovenia, and ran the Serengeti with a Maasai warrior. He acted on stage in Portugal, taught negotiations in Germany, and chaired a healthcare conference in Holland. Tim studied psychology in France, radiology in England, and philosophy in Greece. He has enjoyed ballet at the Bolshoi, the opera on Lake Como, and the symphony in Vienna. He's been a marathoner, paratrooper, triathlete, and yogi. Intent on combining his creativity with his experience, Tim began writing thrillers in 1996 from an apartment overlooking Moscow's Gorky Park. Twenty years later, his passion for creative writing continues to grow every day. His home office now overlooks a vineyard in Northern California, where he lives with his wife Elena and their two daughters. Tim grew up in the Midwest, and graduated from Hanover College with a BA in Philosophy and Mathematics. After military service and work as a financial analyst and foreign-exchange trader, he earned an MBA in Finance and an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton and Lauder schools. A well constructed roller coaster of a spy novel which kept me reading non-stop for several hours. It's a superb plot with a touch of James Bond, lone American hero against megalomaniacs planning on destabilising then ruling the world. He has some splendid heroes and villains from Achilles the superb rock climbing Olympic athlete to Max, his multi faceted Soviet counterpart. There are roles for several highly believable, beautiful women e.g Zoya and Katya and even a touch of humour about the Soviet mole in the White House. I was impressed by the breadth of Tigner's knowledge of spycraft and electronics, there was a ring of authenticity about all the action scenes especially when things started going wrong so spectacularly. I'm new to Tigner's novels so this was a welcome introduction to his genre. I felt the novel was highly prophetic almost saying 'it could happen if' which of course it might with all the shenanigins going on in the world just now. There's a clever interplay of politics, terrorism, envy and greed. I won't say more not wanting to introduce spoilers but do recommend you read it I guarantee you'll enjoy it despite the many frissons of fear!

This is the 3rd book by Tim Tigner that I have read (Flash and Chasing Ivan) and I enjoyed them all.
As others have said, this is a combination of James Bond, Bourne and Mission Impossible and should be
read as such - i.e. suspend belief, go with the flow and accept that it is a bit OTT. It is meant to be like that!

Ex-CIA agent Kyle Achilles is given a top secret mission by US President, Silver. Max is a top Russian spy and
he and his actress girlfriend are given a secret mission by their President, Korovin. The two missions collide
with interesting twists and turns along the way. It is amazing what an advantage unlimited money (we are talking
    billions) can give you!

This book was fast paced and enjoyable with no sex scenes. I would recommend it to lovers of adventure stories.

I was surprised there were so few reviews of this book, which is good news for those of you that like the big international spy based novels because it may a new source of the fix. I had read Book 1 in the series and found it a really plausible and enjoyable page turner and this 2nd book didn’t disappoint.. I think the story was better as the characters had fleshed out so it added plausibility to the tale. As with the first book it was difficult to predict what would happen and some of the obvious story threads you may have got from less accomplished writers did not materialise. A really easy and enjoyable read. Better than 99% of the genre

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The little twists and turns, negotiating and the plots, plans and even relationships.
Making the impossible seem possible. A very good read.

The outline of the plot and the characters follow well worn formats: the fantasy of the he man appointed by his president to act alone and save the world by defeating the resources of the Russian president.

So suspend belief and enjoy it as a "page turner". As such it has sufficient twists to hold the attention.

Not good literature, or even good writing, but good entertainment.

There was of course the expected complex plotting and the non stop action but what I really enjoyed was the slightly fuzzy boundary between the goodies and the baddies. On the surface this was a clear cut demarcation but deeper into the plot the reader could see good people making decisions that might at best be questionable and also people from the 'baddies' side not being the caricatures they might have been expected to be.

Thought this was a bit slow to get into but once the scene was set the excitement ramped up. Two plot lines - assassination of Russian president and planned downing of 50 US aircraft - run parallel until the opposing operatives team up. Highly unlikely of course but that doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment. This is a long book but it didn’t drag. I bought this book on audible and in the main the narrator did a good job. The voices of the Russian women were not good.

I have just completed reading The lies of spies, and did so within 24 hours! I found that the book was almost impossible to put down. The scenarios are well thought out and logically planned. This gives the book a genuine feel to it that makes the reader feel they are actually there at the time. Excellent read and well worth the five star rating.. :)

Just like book #1, this story keeps you turning the pages and is hard to put down. An exceptionally well written book and with no typos to boot! The characters are relatable and deeper than those of a Bond story. A movie adaptation would be a challenge and most likely present a shallow copy of the original story. I look forward to reading my next selection of a Tigner novel. Thank you very much.

Simply Brilliant. This is my sixth Tim Tigner book, and I have loved every one of them. This is a very well written and clever book. I like a story that can keep me guessing, and there are plenty of twist and turns to make this a very enjoyable read. The Manhattan Project, code named by the Russians as “Sunrise”, would give the Americans total control of space and everything up there for only 70 Billion dollars. The most important thing they would control is the Satellites, which scares the hell out of the Russians. So in return the Russians have come up with Operation Sunset which will neutralize Sunrise, and cripple America. Both Presidents seem to think the other wants them dead, and this could certainly become a reality with tensions increasing. Senator Collins tasks Achilles and Foxley with killing the Russian President, and she would rather it looked like an accident. Foxley is to do everything he can to assist Achilles in this assignment, which he’s not thrilled about it, as he’s the older and much more experienced one in his opinion. He just doesn’t know how good Achilles is. If project Sunset is successful, then it would unleash devastation on America. From start to finish this is a great book. It’s certainly captivating and full of intrigue. If you enjoy Action Thrillers then you will love this book.

This author writes a fascinating book. I just read his biography and he has experienced most of what his novels include, so they are very authentic. He fully develops his characters, and believe it or not, his books are not filled with four letter words or explicit sex..WOW…it can be done!!! Thank you Mr.Tigner. Wish more authors and screen writers would follow your example.
