A real departure for Rob, and it could have been a disaster: a change of genre, a switch of location and speech is a hell of a tall order. As I expected he pulls it off with aplomb! It is a triumph of a book, Rob got me gripped from the start to the end and the twists were brilliant. If you buy no other book in the next ten years buy this one; unless the other books you buy are written by Rob Aspinall.

    3.5 stars.

The cover of Homecoming and the book description grabbed my attention straight away and I knew I had to read it.

Crime/thrillers being my favourite genre, I do tend to read a lot of them which means I probably tend to have higher expectations as have read lots of amazing books this year so far. I found Homecoming to be a bit of a slow burner to start with and I wasn’t as gripped as much as I would have liked to be, but, the last 40% give or take of the book really picks up pace and had me totally hooked.

Alice is a struggling P.I. She has just been evicted out of her apartment for arrears on her rent and has no idea what she is going to do. Luckily, or not so luckily as the case may be, a good paying job comes up back in her home town. This is a place where Alice has run away from and has tried to put behind her.

The case itself really intrigued me and I thought the setting of the small town was perfect for the story. I certainly didn’t see the twists that were coming which had me turning the pages as fast as I could to be able to unravel more secrets that this town seemed to hide.

Homecoming is certainly a book worth reading. It is full of suspense and by the end readers will certainly not be disappointed.

This is the first Rob Aspinall book I have read. It certainly won't be the last. An engaging thrill from the outset as we follow the lead character in her investigation. Lots of twists and turns and I challenge ANYONE to guess the outcome. One of the best books I have read in a long time.

I enjoyed this. I was not sure that I would.

I took a chance on this, after reading the Charlie Cobb novels and the Truly Deadly series. That, this writer has produced. This is different from them.

So what is this about? Set in rural Kansas. A teenage girl has disappeared. The clues from the scene point to the work of a known serial killer.

With no progress, from the police. The girl's uncle, turns to a private investigator. The choIce of Alice Parks, would raise a few eyebrows, in her current base of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

However, will this give the struggling private eye the incentive to succeed? Or is she in over her head?

But then again, surely a return to the place where she grew up and meeting up with friends and family again would be a help? Or is Alice who she claims to be?

Lived this book. Enjoy good murder mystery and suspense. Had to just keep reading it to find out how it ends, didn't see the end coming

The only shocking twist of this book was that I SPENT OVER 4 HOURS OF MY TIME READING IT!

It started out great, the character, Alice Parks was likeable and spunky. You could fathom her actually solving the case.

But the last 20% of the story was so ridiculous, so preposterous that I am glad it was an e-book and that no trees were sacrificed in printing this work of twaddle!

As an avid reader (3-6 books a month) I won’t be looking for titles by Mr. Aspinall anytime soon.

This was a thrillers. I would have given 5 stars bit it moved slow at times. I didn't see what happened near the end coming. It did deliver with thrills, excitement and fast paced action. I recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Curiosity with consequences
Reviewed in the United States on 30 March 2017
It is a slow starting read with simplistic writing. I stuck with the book due to the encouragement of a family member. Then the plot picked up with Chapter 5 and became mysterious and exciting. Each section makes the reader curious of the next. There is sarcastic humor. Also the scenes are in a small town with tiny details that slowed the reading pace at times. Story is nostalgic taking a long time to reach the point e.g. family dinner, H.S. memories. The main character is devious, a thief and manipulative in actions to reach her goals. Nearly every chapter repeats the name Alice or is filled with the pronoun I. Often it is difficult to keep dream sequences from reality. Parts of the book appear preposterous. Finally the ending is partly predictable though filled with considerable action and gore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Twists and Turns A Roller Coaster Ride

This book is full of surprises. A failed FBI recuit/PI about to be evicted from her apartment gets an unexpected job offer to go to her hometown to search for a missing girl.
The money is too good too turn down. She finds she isn’t wanted in town by the locals and the backstory fills itself in as the story goes along. There are definitely some interesting surprises as far as townsfolk go. Story gets way involved and ends up being solved one way or another. Homecoming just won’t be the same anymore.
