About the author

Sarah Turner lives in Devon with her husband and their three boys. She started writing as The Unmumsy Mum in 2013 after becoming disillusioned with the other parenting literature she had read online. Everybody seemed to be coping so well! Where were the tales of mums tearing their hair out after yet another sleepless night and endless re-runs of Peppa Pig? Surely there were others out there who were trying but ultimately failing to live up to the Supermum ideal they’d bought into? She made a vow then and there to document the good, the bad and the ugly of parenting and her blog (www.theunmumsymum.co.uk) was born. You can follow Sarah’s everyday parenting adventures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (@theunmumsymum).

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2018I’ve followed The Unmumsy Mum on social media for a while and picked up her book up on a bit of a whim. I say whim, what I mean is Amazon had it cheaper than the e-book and I love a good bargain.
So much of Sarah’s life resonated with me as a mum of two boys just like Sarah (well she had two but as you’ll see by her bio she’s got three now!). At points I was sat nodding my head (the kitchen planning), giggling (The Willy Show) and then there was the fallic mushrooms….it’s like she’s read my mind, taken my life and tweaked it so I know it’s my life but no one else does…
It’s not just the parenting stuff I could identify with, I too can go online with one purpose in mind and 2 hours later still not done it because something (normally social media ) distracts me….
She made me feel like my family life was normal. All mums compare themselves across the school playground, at the soft play, on line, but the honesty of Sarah’s writing made me think “I’m doing ok” as a parent. She also made me realise that yes it’s not just my kids who say the funniest and probably inappropriate things…..
Do you wanna smell my muff? (Henry aged 4)
I have to say I loved the random entries from Jude and James. Jude’s take on a day with Mummy is just comical and perfectly pitched, it’s just how I imagine a toddler’s logic working! As for James, I get the impression child care isn’t as easy as he imagined
It’s a bit different to my usual fictional reads as there is no real conclusion; it’s the year in the life of the Turners. A very entertaining year by all accounts. I didn’t realise this was the second book in the series and yes I have got the first one, so I’ll be heading back to read that and also the short compilation The Unmumsy Mums subtitled “A Collection of Your Hysterical Stories from the Frontline of Parenting“.
If you’ve not ventured into the work of The Unmumsy Mum, it is really funny, brutally honest and well worth a read. I defy any parent to read this and not identify with at least some of what happens in the Turner household.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2017I read the first book a few weeks ago and was so excited when I saw the second was about to be published. Literally read it cover to cover in 24 hours. Sarah captures the ups and downs of being a mum so well - for the reader it's a perfect balance of lols and tears! Despite the hilarious rants at the trials and tribulations of toddler life, it's blindingly obvious that Sarah is an absolute amazing mum and totally devoted to her family. Please hurry up and publish the next one.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2017Absolutely loved it, I found it so relatable. My two are currently the same age as The Unmumsy Mum's boys and the biggest one will be starting school in September just like Harry does. I felt like it could have been us I was reading about. It's great to read someone so honest about everything they go through as a family and know that I am not the only one feeling all these things.
Also the section written by her husband is fantastic and I am sure my husband would agree with everything he said.
If you have kids who you love to pieces but drive you up the wall sometimes, this is the book for you!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 March 2021Love this book. Got the first and had been meaning to buy this for ages but ... Then I ended up in hospital so in the early hours of the first night was on Amazon and ordered this book which arrived really fast and I was able to read it while in hospital. So many laugh out loud moments! Think the other ladies thought I was mad! Brilliant read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2019This made me laugh so much. It's taken me 15 months to read. Sneaking in the odd page or so during night time breastfeeding in the early days, to finishing it as I sit with my husband in hospital as he suffers from meningitis. I always had a giggle and wanted to read it all to him as it's just so true! We have lots of this to look forward to, but mainly i just loved how it reassured me i am doing a good enough job, and I am an average mum and it is ok!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 June 2017I haven't yet read Sarah's first book so cannot really compare the two but I decided to buy this one on a whim after following her on Facebook for some time. It's a really easy and funny read, some of the stories have genuinely made me laugh out loud and I'd definitely recommend this to any parent. Ill certainly be buying her first book to give that a try too.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2018I am a newish Mum of two boys (aged 2.5 and 6 months). My GP actually suggested I read the Unmumsy Mum book (although I had already started when she suggested it) after a routine appointment when I said I felt a bit overwhelmed and she (a Mum of two herself) smiled empathically and told me this is NORMAL - and to read the book (you are on prescription now!). I couldn’t put book one down and purchased The Unmumsy Mum Diary as soon as I was finished! I’ve recommended this book to friends, my sister, anyone who will listen! Especially after baby no 2 it has made me feel so much better about my thoughts, feelings and basically the reality of parenting! I’m definitely an Unmumsy Mum too! Thank you, Sarah, for your honest accounts of ‘Mum Life’ and for making millions of women (and men!) feel a little more normal and sane - and for opening the doors to honesty in parenting :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
This has made me laugh out loud with tears streaming down my cheeks, it's made me realise that there's times to "pick your battles" and that I'm not alone in the the things I say and do as a mum. Fantastic read but I'm now sad that I have finished it but am hopeful that there is more to come.
