- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2016I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The ending was quite clever, and certainly unexpected - as I was reaching the end I couldn't put the book down, I needed to know exactly what had happened. It did remind me of a movie I saw a few years ago but if I say which one there will be spoilers. All the characters were well portrayed and believable and because I liked this book so much, I went on to buy another of T J Brearton's e-books, which I'm also enjoying. So much that I'll be looking to buy another one when I've finished it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2016I bought this book after reading the blurb, which suggested it was about a missing family. Unfortunately we learnt little or nothing about this family. The book was basically about someone having a mental breakdown and was riddled with conspiracy theories. I don't like conspiracy theories at the best of times and certainly don't want to read about them. I was glad when I had finished it and could move on to something more to my taste. It was well written though hence the two stars. If its your sort of novel it is probably a good read, just wasn't for me.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 July 2020Great read, kept you focused till the last page. Full of believable characters, and sympathetic to the danger of mental health issues within police enforcement agencies.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2016This book is slow, hard going and most definitely NOT a gripping page turner. I was so bored and didn't even bother to finish it. It just didn't gain my interest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Book with the Ending to a Different Story *spoiler alert*
Spoiler Alert. Let's start with the good, and there's a lot of it. I love books written with an unreliable narrator, which much of this is. When do we realize he's unreliable, and just how unreliable is he? Are his gut instincts about people a part of his police training or something else?
All this plays out against a real page-turner of a story as the police race to find a missing family. Couldn't put it down. Character development of the deputies was perfect and we'll greet them like old friends in the next installment.
Now, the bad. As someone else noted, the ending felt rushed. After the family is discovered (you'll have to wait to find out in what condition) the focus is back on our primary narrator, Detective Rondeau. How much of what has happened to him is real? We're never told and we don't know why. People are still getting sick at the end and it isn't dealt with in any manner. Will the undercover hero uncover the story?
It felt like the author got tired of the story and wanted to wrap it up, leaving a lot of loose ends in favor of a quick show of farewell for Rondeau and wrapping up a story from his past rather than the story we read.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a gripping tale of truth and justice.
You have to wonder who is telling the truth and why people try to hide the truth at all costs.
This book will have you thinking of who you can trust especially when your life is on the line.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling and twisting
This was the second thriller I read written by TJ Brearton. It was worth it. I' m neither a fan of conspiracy theories nor do I think that there isn' t anything fishy about politics and profiteering. The author managed to achieve a balance. At the end of that story there remained some unanswered questions. So it' s up to you to find your personal answers. Like that.
Again I liked Brearton' s figures. They are vivid and real.
And I like his style of writing. It' s fluent and thrilling.
I didn' t experience any boredom at any time. I highly recommend this thriller.
