4.2 out of 5 stars 17,804 ratings

A gripping sumner read combing mystery, suspense and romance…

"See You Soon is a really gripping, suspenseful read. I felt like I was holding my breath in anticipation throughout the whole book!"- The Book Magnet

What is true friendship really worth?

When Emily receives an email from her estranged childhood friend, Ali, she instantly looks forward to reading what it has to say. She hasn’t seen or heard from Ali in a very long time and hopes that they can begin to rekindle the perfect friendship they once had. But when Emily opens the email, she finds it isn’t the friendly message she had hoped for. Instead, it is a desperate plea for help from Ali to tell Emily she could be in danger.

Growing increasingly concerned for Ali’s safety, Emily is forced to return to the seaside town where she and Ali had grown up. The same town that she had fled from over fifteen years ago, when she had sworn she would never return.

Once back there, Emily is quickly thrown into a game of cat and mouse, where she must follow the clues to help her old friend. But time is against her and she is constantly looking over her shoulder. It appears Emily isn’t alone and must hurry before her past finally tracks her down...

A really enjoyable read. A good storyline, well paced, interesting characters with some nice twisty turns. Not a hard story to follow so the pages turned with ease. Lots of regrets and a bit of romance with the mystery of a missing person to solve. Whats not to like!

Without giving any meaningful detail the ‘Prologue’ to ‘See You Soon’ lets readers know that a death is involved, and the wording is cleverly repeated almost verbatim as the denouement is reached. In between is a form of psychological thriller, but told in such a manner with gaps that again keeps readers in the dark. Sudden introduction of new characters with little explanation results in narrative that lacks tension, and to make matters worse the writing style is somewhat plain and staccato as chapters are told from a variety of extraneous perspectives.

Main protagonist is Emily who returns to her hometown after receiving an email from Ali, a school friend she hasn’t had contact with for fifteen years. The friend has already been reported missing, and though Emily attempts to assist the police in their investigations she frustratingly withholds bits of information she is presented with supposedly from Ali. The plot is implausible with too many characters from the past already known to Emily, too many interwoven relationships, and just too many coincidences. Author NC Marshall confuses Ali as either a friend in need or an adversary. There is a lack of logic.

As a psychological thriller ‘See You Soon’ is rather tame with any element of suspense coming from not revealing clues rather than intrigue or drama. However it is a relaxing average novel with some innocent romance, and as such a 3-star rating is probably fair.

Who would think that someone could be so callous! The story unfolds with the reader wanting more information about why Ali has called on her best friend from school, after a fifteen year gap, needing help. Ali is missing from her home as Emily finds out when she goes to see what Ali is so desperate about. A good read with a page turning tale and an ending that the reader can't see coming.

I don’t usually read this type of book but in this time of ‘ social distancing’ I thought I’d give it a go. I loved it from the first page to the last. A real “who dun it” or more like a “who is it” that keeps you guessing till very near the end. N. C. Marshall is a very creative lady with a very devious mind to come up with this plot. Can’t wait to read her other novels.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book is exactly what it says in the title. For a short story it is FULL of suspense. I didn't know who 'it' was until the very end, thought I did but obviously each person I considered wasn't the one. Loved it, and will definitely look for more books by this author.

A bit weird as it is written in the first person in the present but with narrators. Once you work out who's who and how to read it then it is an interesting style that can feel more intense. Some curious slight Americanisms although it appears to be supposed to be set in England. Useful to be able to picture the beach even if we can't go there this year! Good for a holiday read.

I've entitled this story `Bedtime reading'because, and I truly don't wish to be rude, but, there is no real or exciting or interesting beginning and, after reading circa 50% of the story, I deleted it. Sorry but, a no-no for those who enjoy adventure, tension and a thrill!

Just when you think you’ve worked it out, turns out upyou haven’t. Better than I expected, and at least the police take things seriously for a change. Good ending.
