- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 September 2016Get ready to raise a glass of Cava as Tippermere is back but with a little Spanish twist! I love the Tippermere series (I have to admit that my own Cheshire village comes very close to all the fun and drama but maybe doesn't have quite as many gorgeous single men!) but here we get twice the fabulous settings as the cosy Cheshire village is romantically twinned with bustling Barcelona for a Christmas treat! And although Tippermere is the location for one of the swaps this is a standalone book so you don't need to have read any others (but you should anyway!!)
What I adore about Zara Stoneleys books is that you get a real sense of her locations as she writes about what she knows. All the way through I could practically taste all the wonderful tapas dishes and feel the warmth of the Spanish sunshine then, when I turned the page, I was immediately back in the Cheshire countryside, in the snow, hacking down country lanes. And then she fills her authentic settings with the most wonderful characters who are gorgeous and funny and feel like they are your friends. I adored both Daisy and Flo, who decide to swap their lives for a few weeks. Daisy isn't sure that she wants to accept her boyfriend Jimmy's proposal and Flo is expecting a proposal but she gets rather a different kind of shock instead! So it just makes sense to try living in one another's shoes, it always brings things into perspective...doesn't it?! One of the things that made this book work for me was that I loved both girls stories equally. Often when there is a dual point of view I can find myself racing through one person's chapter just to get to the other storyline but here I felt at home with Flo and with Daisy and enjoyed both of their journeys of self discovery. If you don't feel happy and relaxed and full of Christmas cheer by the end then your name must be Scrooge!
This book has been promoted as addictive reading for fans of the film The Holiday and I have to back that up 100%! I don't feel it's really Christmas until I've snuggled down under a cosy blanket with a fully loaded hot chocolate and a plate of homemade mince pies to watch The Holiday. It's a Christmas tradition that I undertake with one of my daughters every year as its her favourite film! This year I have to say that I have already preordered the paperback of The Holiday Swap to pop in her Christmas stocking as I know she will love it as much as I do! The cover alone makes me smile so I can't wait to see her face on Christmas morning (although it may backfire on me when she's too busy reading to help peel all the veg!)
I always recommend this author to fans of Jilly Cooper especially ones who love Jilly's quick witted humour and puns but struggle with the huge cast of characters and animals. This book had me smiling from cover to cover and I loved the pages of little tips at the end too. Christmas in Cheshire is going to be fabulous this year!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2019The story alternates between Flo and Daisy who have been friends for awhile. Flo lives in the fabulous setting of Barcelona right in the heart of the city which couldn’t be any further from the rural village that Daisy lives in. I have to say I loved both settings. I could easily envision both and whilst Barcelona definitely had it’s temptations, I must say the cottage and small village where Daisy lives, won my heart.
Both women have come to a bit of a halt where their love lives are concerned. I loved the idea of the pair of them getting away from their problems in different countries to hopefully find the answers they are looking for. Something I’m sure we would all love to do from time to time.
This story has a real feel good vibe about it. There is quite a bit of humour in it which I enjoyed. Whilst the heart of it maybe romance, it’s also about women doing it for themselves. Daisy and Flo are quite different in personalities of which both love interests couldn’t be any further from each other also. I liked that each character very much had their own strong voice and I couldn’t help fall a little bit in love with both men that Daisy and Flo were falling for.
The Holiday Swap was an engaging and fun read. Some parts had me laughing whilst other parts made be go awe. I so enjoyed the blossoming relationships between both couples and it certainly kept me entertained. A great novel to pick up and enjoy at any time of the year.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2017Well written characters that you easily relate to. Story is written at a great pace and is not easy to put down.
Only disappointing thing was that if you have seen the film, 'The Holiday' this book follows a very predictable structure after the first couple of chapters.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2016Definitely recommend this book.
I just love books about Christmas. And as soon as I saw the cover and name I knew it was one I wanted to read. Similar story to one of my favourite movies, The Holiday, so I was hoping I would enjoy this as much. And it didn't disappoint.
Daisy is shocked at a proposal she receives from Jimmy and Flo is devastated at not receiving a proposal from Oli. Both needing time to think about their futures, they decide to swop homes in the lead up to Christmastime. Flo heads to Daisys cottage on the edge of the village of Tippermere in Cheshire, and Daisy finds herself in a city apartment in Barcelona.
A beautiful story of friendship, love and new beginnings. I loved how the the author drew me in with the wonderful descriptions of both places. (So much so that I have decided to visit Barcelona).
You will definitely enjoy this book curled up and cosy with a hot drink or by the poolside with a cocktail. Thanks to TBConFB and the author for allowing me to read for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 September 2016If you're looking for fabulous festive fun with friends and a sunny twist, The Holiday Swap has it all. Zara Stonely always delivers pacey, well written fiction, and she's done it again here. Her characters are grounded and believable, and then there are the beautifully drawn Cheshire locations. This time she's gone a step further and tossed in the glamour of Barcelona too. Alongside snowy Tippermere, with its cottages and toasty log fires, we have beaches and tapas bars, which means this story fits equally well as a sun lounger read, or a sofa curl up. The two story strands follow heroines, Flo and Daisy, who couldn't be more different. But exchanging homes lets them see their lives more clearly. With lots of humour and a touch of love along the way, this refreshing new take stands out from the crowd. A lesson in seeing second chances, and grabbing them by the collar. Which reminds me to mention the animal stars too. If you'd enjoy falling in love with delicious heroes, or a wonderful wolf hound, step this way.

I loved this book! Loved the authenticity of keeping to the lingo and customs. Such neat expressions and great characters. I was enveloped into each story and felt a kinship with the characters. Sweet read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect Christmas read
“She got out of the car, tugged at her suitcase and tried not to grin, because that wouldn’t be fair. She was finally doing it. Finally going.” (Quotation page 52)

Daisy Fischer is happy with her life, her little cottage near Tippermere and her animals. But one moment changes everything.
Daisy and Florence need a break from their usual life and swap house – for Daisy this means December in sunny, vivid, amazing Barcelona and Florence is looking forward to be back in England, with snow and traditional Christmas preparations. Soon they find out that this Christmas has some surprises waiting for them.
Theme and genre
This feel good romance is about changes, what-ifs, friendship, Barcelona and rural England, Christmas and love.
Characters
The characters of the story are witty and loveable with their special attitudes.
Plot and writing
The story develops between England and Barcelona, takes alternating looks how Florence copes with the animals, an enormous dog, horse and hens, the snow, ice and presumptuous Hugo, who used to tease her when they had been children and now is her neighbor. A cozy, funny, heartwarming Christmas read, perfect to relax in a comfortable reading chair and enjoy.

Nice to hear about different places. The characters were very believable. It was a fun story to read and try to figure out what might happen next. The large dog added laughs.

Cute holiday romance, very predictable though, happy endings. Easy to read, nothing wrong with it but not amazing either, enjoyed it

4.0 out of 5 stars Felt I knew the characters and adored the settings.
A well-written, romantic Christmas story. The characters were easy to get to know and love, and the relationships fun and loving. I would recommend sitting by the fire next to your twinkling Christmas tree and transport yourself to another cozy Christmas and the wonderful setting of Barcelona.
