Product description

About the Author

Karen Gee is passionate about dogs. The inspiration for the character "Dodger" came from her own Staffie-cross, Dodger, who was rescued from the RSPCA in London after being abandoned as a young puppy. All of Dodger Dog's stories are based on true events and real-life adventures. "How I became Dodger Dog" is the true story of Dodger's journey to find his 'forever home'. Karen is deeply concerned about dog welfare and is especially interested in the plight of Bull Breeds - Staffies and Pit Bulls in particular. 25% of the profits from Dodger's books will go to dog charities across the world. The books are written in such a way as to teach children about personal values and create an understanding of subjects such as adoption, disability, environmental issues and responsible dog ownership.

I came late to writing and started writing for fun and with a vision to share the amazing staffie breed to everyone as a concept, then the idea of educating children about other extremely important stuff quickly came into my head!

Having raised 3 children of my own and also spending 13 years as Brown Owl, children were very important to me and I felt that there was no children’s characters or literature promote it core values and behaviours as well as teaching children about different life experiences.

The environment is also a passion of mine along with animal welfare and to stop climate change the carnage in our oceans, and stopping animal cruelty I know it starts with our children.

As a Samaritan mental health is a important subject for me too and bullying must be stopped, so no. Violence and supporting a child’s mental health is also something that I am passionate about.

Dodger is a pet therapy dog and works with both adults and children in hospitals and residential homes, he also visits schools to and libraries, as well as various shows and events.

A story about adopting a dog – and how the poor dog feels being dumped off, his adjustment to kennel life and dreams and hopes of findings his very own “forever home”. --- Great story for introducing children to rescue dogs!
