Beyond Dead: An Afterlife Adventures Novel (A Paranormal Ghost Cozy Mystery Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,199 ratings

****Currently being adapted for TV ****

Bridget Sway is newly dead. And confused.

Instead of cloud cars and harp-playing cherubs, the afterlife is working a full-time job that doesn’t pay and a heinous communal living situation with housemates who have no concept of privacy or personal space. As if that wasn’t bad enough, on her first day at work Bridget finds a murdered ghost stuffed in her locker.

With the afterlife police looking to pin the murder on Bridget, her new best friend and ex-PI, Sabrina, suggests they solve the murder themselves. But with a handsome parole officer watching her every move and the afterlife police dogging her every step, solving the murder is easier than it sounds.

If you like sassy heroines who break all the rules, laugh out loud humour and whodunnits that keep you guessing until the very end, then tag along with Bridget Sway on her afterlife adventures.

Given my recent three week reading slump and my mounting 'could not finish' pile of books I was very surprised, and quietly pleased, that this book actually grabbed me. Not only did it grab me but it drew me in and kept a hold of me. I had initial problems with Bridget in how shallow, vain and snobby she came across as during the book but I grew to like her and Sabrina. The other characters where just as likeable and had just as much depth as Bridget. The plot held really well and it flowed seamlessly along. Even I had trouble guessing who the 'bad guy' was. It was overall a really good read and had me captivated before I even knew I had gotten into this book. There were a few typos here and there but otherwise it was incredibly well written.

I wanted a good light hearted read and this caught my eye and I'm so glad. I was hooked on the first page and was furious when my kindle fire shut down a couple of times when I was reading. An original story line with fantastic characters, l love Edith, mystery, mischief and lots of laugh out loud humour. I will be reading the rest of this series.

Wow - humour, a fun full of action plot filled with murder, conspiracies and gobble dealings. She has just started her new life as the newly dead. What she didn't expect was to find a dead, dead guy in her locker. Watch as she copes with being questioned by the police, the special police, gets in trouble with psychics, makes new friends and deals with all the restrictions, rules and regulations as she investigates not 1 but 3 murders that have all set her up as suspect no 1. She is feisty, independent and a cool head under fire. That is except for her feelings for her parole officer who makes her temperature rise.

Good story a mix of paranormal/ mystery/ and comedy. Bridget lost her life by a bus and ended up in her afterlife. It's seems to be like Hell for her, speak she has to work in her afterlife.
She gets a guardian who drives her crazy, because no one explain anything to her. Bridget has quite a sassy mouth and gets herself in trouble to this point that a dead ghost is in her locker....I know sounds quite funny, well it is. LOL

The book is written quite well and shows a completely different site of afterlife, funny in some way. Somehow I find Bridget quite cold from her emotional state. Lots conversation going on in there. The plot is interesting as well for the mix with dry humour.
But for my part I found it a bit dragged, before something excitement happened. It can be a fun read for some, depending on the taste in this story. I might would buy the next one, but not for the price. Quite expensive. So no second part for me.

Bridget was happily going about her business when she tripped, fell under a bus, and found out she was dead.
Forget fluffy clouds , angelic harps and family's members waiting to greet you, being dead means living in a community house , having a job to do, and in Bridget's case finding dead bodies in your locker!
This is a very good story, the first in a series, it held my interest the entire time, not your typical ghost story, more like like a ghostly detective yarn. Very good.

When Bridgey Sway dies after she discovers her boyfriend is cheating and she is hit by a bus she discovers bureaucracy hasn't died with her!

After an initial hold up on intake she starts her job in the afterlife only to find a dead dead body in her locker, still the (after)life must continue! With a job, meetings and a shared home... this certainly isn't heaven!!

With bodies piling up around her, and conspiracies in every direction not to mention a police force who don't seem to be doing anything and the Ghosting Busters Bridget and her new friend Sabrina start their own investigation, though it isn't easy as the rules and red tape are a nightmare!
Who can they trust, who is the killer?

This is such an original storyline, the reader is not sure if Bridget is in Heaven, Hell Purgatory or somewhere else entirely, but it certainly makes for an interesting after life. The writing is really good with a well thought out plot and fantastic characters. Your left not knowing yourself until the reveal just exactly who is killing the dead!

If you like your ghosts sassy, their friends bold and your afterlife filled with bureaucracy then this book is for you!

Actually chortled out loud to this one! Unusual storyline, who knew the afterlife would be so... boring. Or that ghosts would scare each other with ghost stories, or that there were psycho ghosts! (Ok, maybe we believe there could be psycho ghosts). Love the friendship between Bridgit and Sabrina and the ralationship Bridge has with Oz. Well written book, storyline moved along very nicely. Witty and fun. The sign of a good book for me is that I am sad when I have finished and I feel a little bereft, so thanks a lot, Jordaina... :O)

A bit of fun. It appears loss of life is not loss of life.
A whole universe for ghosts has been skillfully created and peopled with dimensioned characters.
Many humorous books trip over their own cleverness, this one doesn't take itself to seriously so the humor works well.
All in all a good read, pacey enough to keep the pages turning and deep enough to persuade me to buy the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars My NEW FAVORITE AUTHOR!!!
Reviewed in the United States on 31 October 2017
Lately, I've had bad luck with new authors who have a great 1st book & follow up with a meh 2nd book. Not so for Ms. Robinson.
I have gotten to the point where the first book has to be spectacular in order for me to buy the next book. So when I initially got Ms. Robinson's 1st book on October 17, 2017, I held off reading it for fear that it wouldn't live up to the first chapter. Boy, was I wrong to think this book would be anything less than the fabulously awesome read it is.
WOW. What can I say about this book?... Well, it gives you everything you could ever ask for and a little bit more. There is murder, action, adventure, ghosts, villains, heroes, conspiracies, justice & so much more. Yep oodles & oodles of cool good stuff...
And like all good things.... The first book is free... But once you read this one you will be hooked....
Now I originally didn't start reading it until October 25th, at which time I ended up buying Book #2 "Deader Still". Not only did she deliver another fantastic story with bk 2, but she continued it with a spectacular bk 3 "A Little More Dead" (which I bought on the 26th Oct) & dare I say a magnificent bk 4 "Dead & Buried" (which I bought on the 27th Oct). There is also an interesting prequel "Just A Touch Dead" she will send you when you sign up for her website.
While true that you don't have to read these books in order, its so much better if you do since the stories are just better when you have all the little nuances connecting the characters in the correct order.
So, in conclusion, read the books & get hooked, like I have. Now I impatiently wait for book 5.
PS. I will be putting this as my review for all four books. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, hilarious, just a pleasure to read
Reviewed in Germany on 11 April 2018
So - Bridget is dead. And she's miffed, to put it nicely. Being dead is not what she thought it would be. No one explains the rules, she has to go to work (excuse me!), there's nowhere to buy clothes or makeup, and on the first day, she finds a dead body stuffed in her locker. (yes, dead people can be killed again). As she seems to be the main suspect for the murder, she tries, with the help of her newly found friend Sabrina, to find out what's going on.
Great plot and good storytelling, once you got used to the style (a bit too forced funny initially for my taste). Bridget came over as spoilt and pouting, not very likeable, and trying-to-be funny, but that quickly changed. The characters all have their quirks, nothing is what it seems to be, and the way Bridget and Sabrina bungle their way through afterlife and managing to break nearly every rule during their investigation is sheer entertainment, especially as whenever they seem to get anywhere with it, there was a twist in the story throwing them into yet another impossible (and hilarious) situation.
Loved this story, and the teaser for the next book at the end of this one sounds very promising as well. It looks as if I have found a new series to read.
