Beauty and the Beast (Not Quite the Fairy Tale Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 1,480 ratings

Not Quite the Fairy Tale is a series of paranormal romance written for a mature audience. Expect adult language and naughty stuff. Each book is a stand alone.
Let me tell you one thing, Beast: if your Prince ever returns, watch his back. There are thousands who would gladly throw daggers at it.”

And Belle would be first in line.
Ten years ago, he was Prince Aiden, heir of Jereena, at the top of the world – now, they call him Beast.
Aiden has landed on his feet, his exclusive club is the place to be, he makes hundreds of thousands a night.
What else could he possibly want?

Belle grew up during the Anarchy, and the corrupted system screwed her, big time, but she managed to get by.
Then, her stupid brother goes and steals from the Beast, who demands her as payment. Well, her, a pile of cash, or her sister – option two and three aren’t acceptable.

May Sage has a wicked sense of humour and her fairy tales are so enjoyable to read! It is great fun to recognise the elements of the old tales in a 100% adult versions which are also original, dark and sexy. Strong heroines abound too. I strongly recommend her books. Great series, read them all!

This retelling of the well-known fairytale is definitely an adult version, with a lot of sexual content, which I found a little uncomfortably graphic at times. That aside, however, it was a good story, and I liked the way it had been set in a modern world, albeit in a dystopian state, making many elements more familiar to the reader. I also loved the way that the beast had been cursed so that he would appear as he truly was inside, rather than like a mythic beast he's often portrayed as, which made for a very interesting story. While the adult elements mean it's obviously not suitable for younger readers, I'd definitely recommend this book for lovers of fairytale retellings who are comfortable with, or able to look past them, as the story within is a beautifully told one, well worth reading.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

What can I say, except that I LOVE this story! May Sage's rewrites are brilliant, with strong female leads, who end up being the ones to rescue their princes.
Although each of her stories are easily read as stand-alone, it helps to have read the previous books, as you will have events and characters from each crop up. I cannot recommend May Sage highly enough!

When Belle enters the Beast’s lair to pay off her brother’s debt she does so with her head held high and when he accepts her offer with the grace of a gentleman, she starts to wonder if he really is a beast under his strange blue skin. It doesn’t take her long to make up her mind about him but he has a secret that could change her mind forever and he isn’t about to share it.
This was a great start to my favourite fairy tale. Belle was a strong-willed female, and the Beast was rough around the edges but held that inner quality we all expect to see in this fairy tale. There are two issues I have with this story the first being that it ended in a bit of a rush. I would have liked to have savoured the ending rather than being thrown into the ongoing saga of politics, although, that was quite interesting in its own right and I have since purchased the rest of the series. The second issue was the need for a polish and although the book contained many minor errors, I steamed through and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast and although I don't tend to read this kind of genre not have i read anything by the author, i have not been able to put this book down and quite upset it is finished. A fantastic read with much symbolism and passion in the words. Highly recommend this book and looking forward to future books by May Sage.

May Sage’s Not Quite a Fairytale books are just brilliant. I reviewed this book in the bundle as well so I’ll keep this as short as possible.

    SPOILERS

The Beast is blue and hairless, the owner of a casino/brothel. I actually liked him. He’s fair to people but wishes to keep up appearances and is uninterested in the country as long as he’s left alone. He’s become sheltered because of this.
Belles brother steals from the Beast and is given the ultimatum of paying him back with interest, handing over one of his sisters to ‘work it off’, or both of his sisters if he refuses. The Beast gives him a month and when Belle finds out she decides to willingly go so her sister can continue her education and her brother will hopefully realise that his actions have consequences for all of them, not just him.

The idea was quite interesting but the plot was fragmented and confusing at times. Also easily predictable. Good on a night when you can't sleep but don't want to think too much.

This is another fabulous tale from May Sage. I absolutely adore her work, and this book is excellent! It is an extraordinary reselling of beauty and the beast, where the beast runs a brothel, and Belle gives herself to him to repay her brother's theft - Belle is a strong female and wasn't afraid of his reputation. There is also a fabulous happy ending- I can thoroughly recommend this story

Wow. I thought I knew the story of the Beauty and the Beast. Lets see: a cursed prince who has to learn to care for others, a selfless poor beauty paying a debt of a family member and a long way to get to know, trust and love each other.
Seems to be the same fairytale - maybe slightly different retold....
    Highly recommended.
It was my first book of this series but not the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Belle gets grit

I was surprised by the description of Aiden as the Beast, mostly because in my imagination I went in between it being more horrifying than the typical Beast representation, and no big deal. This is played out by Aiden’s self-image and the perception Belle has of his curse. Truthfully, I enjoyed the idea that Aiden did something besides sequester himself after the curse – he found a way to sequester himself while running a business! You have to admire acumen like that, and it’s an important piece of his character that is displayed early.

This novel brings, as did Cinderella, a refreshing and modern take on the traditional tale, while keeping the most important elements of the story largely unchanged. Belle gets the biggest overhaul of any part of the story, becoming a woman who takes no prisoners and is just fine on her own, thank you very much and get out of her way or she’ll kick your butt. The original Belle survived based on her ability to make the best of a situation and see beyond the surface, but Sage’s Belle survives because no one is going to tell her otherwise. There’s a grittiness to Belle that is well-placed with the setting and the Beast in this story. All around this is a rougher world, although no less enjoyable. The banter shared by the two of them is another new element, and one I can’t imagine the story without. I wish I were that witty in real life!

As with others in the series, the sex isn’t a huge part of the story and you can skip if you like, but it is well-written and does serve to develop the characters in some way.
