CROW (Boston Underworld Book 1) Kindle Edition
I had no intention of capturing the attention of the notorious Lachlan Crow.
His reputation sends a shiver down most spines. Now the Irish mafia overlord is my new boss.
He doesn’t trust me, and I don’t trust him. But it doesn’t matter because I have a job to do. I can’t let him distract me, even if he burns hotter than the sun.
And all those growly commands and dark looks he tosses around? I won’t let them get to me.
He’s used to everyone falling in line and obeying his every command, but he doesn’t know why I really needed this job.
Lying to him was supposed to be easy. Except the longer I’m near him, the harder it gets.
It doesn’t feel like a game anymore because now my heart’s on the line. And when the web I’ve spun begins to unravel, it could destroy us both.
Now Lachlan has a choice to make.
Let me go forever…
Or burn his world to save me.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 February 2016Five...five...FIVE stars... This book has left me with a stutter!
This book was a little different to A. Zavarelli's other books. She seems to have the rare talent of constantly changing and evolving as a writer which means that you're never reading the same old lines twice. This book is by far the darkest that this amazing writer has offered to date.
Totally deserving of the #1 spot it earned in the charts!
Ok, on to the story, Mack, our heroine, has to go undercover in the Boston Irish mob to try and find out what has happened to her best friend who went missing a year ago whilst working for them. Mack isn't your everyday book heroine. She's tough and strong and brave and loyal to the nth degree. Her plan is to get in, find out what she can, then get out.
The problem with her master plan comes in the form of Irish hunk and mob badass, Lachlan Crow. She catches his attention almost instantly, and he affects her in a way no man ever has. In any other story, Mack would jump Lach's bones and her plans would fly out the window with the main objective left unresolved in the first couple of chapters.
But this isn't any other story. This is an A. Zavarelli story, so as you'd expect, action and plots are jumping out at you on every single page.
There's so much to take in that this is one of those books that you are going to read over and over, and still find parts that you missed.
Mack is fun and sassy, she's a woman on a mission and even though the formidable Lachlan has burrowed under her skin, she always keeps her eyes on the prize.
I normally don't take to heroines that are as tough as their men as I'm not into the whole men and women are equal thing, but Mack has so many things that make her vulnerable and sweet that you're always reminded that she's still just a girl.
She's been jaded by life yet has still managed to hold on to her innocence that for me, it's a testament to the author's skill that I totally bought into every single word.
There were no annoying plotholes to distract from this story and no misunderstandings, you instantly know who's going to be bad and who's going to be... less so. That being said, I totally didn't see the bad guys connections that were revealed by the end of the book. I was totally like, WTF???
There was a lot of backstory in the beginning of the book, but it is 100 percent necessary as the background is what makes you appreciate the web of plots that A, Zavarelli has so seamlessly weaved. The woman is either insane or a diabolical genius to put together such a seriously well thought out story.
Lach is the quiet brooding type, the dialect takes a little bit of getting used to as Zavarelli has gone all out in bringing authenticity to the story, but once you're a couple of chapters in, the words start disappearing and Lach's voice takes form in your mind, Lach's a Belfast native, but for some reason I hear him as a Dubliner... Go figure!
The supporting characters are all well executed, and I must admit to having fallen for a couple of them, I see me in as the filling in a big fat Irish mob sandwich... If that's wrong, then I don't wanna be right, haha.
A word of warning, though, this book does contain some dark matter. There are things that we all know are happening withing organized criminal gangs such as drugs, violence, kidnapping and even death. If you can't tolerate those things, then you probably shouldn't read this story. Although it does go to dark extremes, I felt that it was done with as much taste as these things can be done with, and it did feel like it was organic to this book.
Now, if you can deal with hotness, stress, mystery, drama and big tough paddies, then you need to read this book.
Well done, A. Zavarelli, on another amazing book. You are an awesome writer!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 February 2018I love a solid Mafia read & when this one was recommended I jumped at the chance to dive into the lives of the Boston Underworld.
This is my first book by A.Zavarelli & I have to say I really liked it. It was angsty, had some great plot twists & held a decent pace from start to finish.
Lachlan Crow is part of The Syndicate, a man who has given his all this life. Searching for revenge, he is sharp, focused & in control - until he's not lol. When she enters his world seemingly out of the blue, although he doesn't trust her, he just cant seem to let her go. A bad scenario for a man who needs to stay in control.
Mack is the fire cracker who is also out for revenge - at any cost. She comes with a game plan which is pretty stellar tbh, but as soon as the eyes of one Irish mobster meet hers, she's a gonner. She starts to question all she has believed, her actions & her motives, but the question is, will it be too late for this ill fated pair.
I'm not always the biggest fan of written accents & in the beginning it did take me a few chapters to get my head around the irish, but the more I got into the story the more it became normal. I loved the side characters & as I already know they have their own book, I cant wait to read which direction their journey's take them.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 June 2017I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
My second book by this author my first being beat which I also loved.
A great Mafia romance with a tough mafia leader and a strong lead heroin Mackenzie.
Mackenzie is a tough chick the daughter of a fighter who was killed by the Russians, she is half American half Irish. When her friend goes missing Mackenzie plans and executes a mission to get herself into the Mafia meet up place, she first wins a fight against one of the mafia's own then auditions to be a dancer. Mackenzie is hard, stubborn, and determined to find her friend what she didn't plan on was to fall for The Irish mob boss Lachlan.
I was gripped, Crow was one of those reads were anything could happen at any time with the unpredictability.
A great Mafia read that will lead me onto the next book.
Hot moments, danger, action, told in dual pov's, Loved It!
Listened on Audible I loved the accents, If you struggle with dialect while reading I suggest the audio which also brings everything more to life..
Lachlan
"Tell me your mad about me and will do anything for me"
"I'm mad about you" I repeat between kisses "and I would, without a doubt, do anything for you, for as long as we have together"
"And your mine, now and for always"
"now and for always" I echo "For as long as we have together""

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book!
Great read! I’d write more, but I’m eager to start the next one. Lachlan and Mack made a dangerous combo that pushes each other and keeps the plot fresh and exciting. The ending was a delightful twist and now, I must go continue reading this series that has its talons in me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy Irish Mafia
Yummy Lachlan... Falling in love when he's not supposed to. I loved every part of this book. All the world building details, from organized crime to revenge plots, and some budding friendships and sexy dancing...this book had everything I needed.
Mackenzie is determined to find her best friend. All she knows is that she often went to a particular club that's tied to the Irish Mafia, so she does what she needs to do in order to infiltrate the club and search for clues. The way she does it is a little funny, because she decides to fight against a guy in a ring (and she wins, because her Dad was once a boxer so she knows a thing or two). Luckily, this gets the attention of Lachlan, the guy who runs the club.
Lachlan is instantly intrigued by Mackenzie. He doesn't believe a word of her lies, but decides to keep her close. He's known for being cold and calculated, easily keeping track of all the business doings and always level headed.
I love that Mackenzie came in and turned his world completely upside down. She's exactly the kind of woman he's needed in his life...someone who will push him yet balance him. I loved reading how these two figured out how to make it work.
