About the author

Linda Huber is an ex-physiotherapist who grew up in Glasgow but has lived over half her life in Switzerland, where she writes psychological suspense novels as Linda Huber and feel-good novels under her pen name Melinda Huber.
The feel-good books are set in her home area in N. E. Switzerland, while the suspense novels, all standalones, have locations in different places around the UK, several in Glasgow and in Cornwall, where she spent happy childhood holidays.
The inspiration for these books comes from everyday life - a family member's struggle with dementia, the discovery that a child in her extended family drowned in the 1940s, and more.
Her newest suspense novel is The Un-Family, published in November 2022 by Hobeck Books. Holly has her dream job, and a lovely home in beautiful English countryside. Pity about the family...
Linda is currently working on another feel-good novel and enjoying life in her adopted country.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2016“Ella longs for a child of her own, but a gruesome find during an adoption process deepens the cracks in her marriage. A family visit starts off a horrifying chain of events, and Ella can only hope she won’t lose the person she loves most of all.
Amanda is expecting her second child when her husband vanishes. She is tortured by thoughts of violence and loss, but nothing prepares her for the shocking conclusion to the police investigation.
And in the middle of it all, a little girl is looking for a home of her own with a ‘forever’ mummy and daddy… “
Ella and Rick. Amanda and James. Two couples who seem to have no connection. Two storylines that are disturbingly interwoven. Ella and Rick are trying to adopt, Ella desperate to become a mother. Whist at an adoption party where adults mingle and children play Ella meets Soraya, a six year old girl who she immediately falls in love with. Ella has her heart set on adopting Soraya despite having already agreed with her husband they would adopt a boy. Rick is less enthusiastic about the adoption and Ella is unable to see this, blinded by the excitement of having her dreams finally come true which leads to even deeper cracks in their marriage. Amanda has just found out she is pregnant with lover James’ child, although she is apprehensive at first James vows to stand by her and make things work. Everything would be perfect for Amanda, if she wasn’t married to someone else. You are wondering how the two stories connect, and you are left like that for some time. It is well worth the wait when they spectacularly collide with each other.
I very much enjoyed this book, I was enthralled from the beginning of this book. I felt deep empathy for Ella so desperate to become a mum that she could not see what was happening right under her nose. The book is full of twists and turns, discoveries and revelations that keeps you hooked the whole way through. This book seriously hard to put down. It has been written well and the suspense was very well executed, and I found myself actually holding my breath in parts! I found myself thinking about the cover, a butterfly. Ella gives Soraya a butterfly brooch as a gift to remind her that Ella will always love her. To me the butterfly symbolises chaos theory, the butterfly effect, and how small decisions or random actions seem inconsequential, but have mammoth repercussions for someone else somewhere else, which this book is a perfect allegory for.
I can’t wait to read more from Huber, massive 5 stars from me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2016This features two different story lines about two different families. Firstly we meet Ella and Rick who, unable to have a child of their own, are going through the gruelling procedure of adoption, ignoring the deepening cracks in their marriage and particularly Rick's more reluctant enthusiasm when they choose a 6 year old girl rather than the baby boy he had wanted. Ella's blindness to this because of her desperate need to be a mother, trigger an unforeseeable chain of deadly events.
The second story line follows pregnant Amanda and Gareth and their son, Jaden a lovely 1 year old. But is the baby Gareth's? One mistake sets Amanda and her lover on a path of no return, deeper and deeper into a situation which keeps becoming more and more complex and sinister with every step; hurtling towards a disastrous conclusion from which there is no escape.
Both plots are engaging and begin relatively innocently, appearing to be a straightforward tale of families and parenting. But very quickly it reveals that it is much more than this. This is a novel full of dramatic twists and a really gripping, page turner - all that we have come to expect from Huber!
This is a story of blackmail, secrets, deceit, murder and kidnapping. It explores how from one small untruth, a web of lies can spread and entrap you, tie you up in such a complication of confusion that the only way out is to continue along the wrong path. I loved the character of Rick; he's like Lady MacBeth - haunted and tormented by his one wrong snap decision, unable to "wash his hands of blood"! The way his mind spirals out of control is captivatingly told; his panic and irrationality completely palpable. He becomes less and less connected with the real world as he pushes himself into further dead ends (like MacBeth too!) and the sense of his complete loss of control is brilliant.
The two story lines then collide with such deadly consequences. The way they interweave, cross over, and affect each other keeps the reader on their toes and we have to keep up with every decision made by each character as they all impact on each other. It is a very cleverly crafted plot and seamlessly controlled.
I loved the way the two plots literally "collide". I liked that the two stories had very different atmospheres and issues but then come together to form one really strong conclusion. I found the characters convincing. I thought Huber explored how people are driven to act when under pressure, or when they want something so much, very well. I liked how easy several of the characters thought it would be to rectify a mistake when actually this is the undoing of everything. The truth will always come out and anyone is foolish to think they can control it - or ever ever get away with murder!
Huber is a talented writer and I would highly recommend her books to people who like gripping psychological dramas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping story!
I loved this story by Linda Huber, filled with suspense and numerous twists and turns. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, right up until the final pages, and to top it off, a fitting finale. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Page Turner
It was a very good mystery, but i feel it lacked with Rick/James remaining in a coma. I was disappointed in the ending. But all and all i reccommend this book. It was a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr spannendes Buch!
Von Anfang an ist man mitten in der Geschichte und kann das Buch kaum mehr weglegen, so spannend ist es! Ich kann dieses Buch nur weiterempfehlen, sowie auch die anderen Bücher von Linda Huber.

3.0 out of 5 stars not suspenseful
This wasn't bad. but it certainly didn't tick the boxes of being a psychological suspense story. The author didn't strive to hide the identity of James in the early chapters, and later in the story, when a character is constantly going to the shed, again, no mystery. There were no twists and turns, no misdirection or red herrings, no unreliable narrator. There was no big WOW at the end that shocked me. There was no guesswork. Everything played out exactly as expected so this story was very disappointing to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent writing.
I greatly enjoyed reading this story. It is so well written it was like watching a movie. The characters were exceptionally real, flaws and all. It would make an excellent movie. Thank you to the author for this escape from reality. Keep writing, please. Looking forward to reading more of your stories.
