- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 December 2017Felt very short sentenced and low in detail to start out with but as you go along it seems to suit the character and the Western genre. Really enjoyed it as the story developed, and looked forward to my reading time. Will read the rest of series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2017This was a most enjoyable book as was the first. I love the characters portrayed within and it gives a tweak of nostalgia at times to feel that in the 'good ol' days' although the reality of life was harsh, there were some real good folk around. A sensitive and well researched book with some great characters who you would love to have met. A heartwarming and compelling read. Thank you Keith.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 January 2017Not my normal genre, so unfair for me to judge. Expected more action , everyone welcoming Pinkerton with open arms. Will no. t read any more.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 September 2016This 5 star book kept me enthralled due to the excellent way the writer changed direction while still evolving the characters. Just sorry that Rob Finn died at the end . There was loads of opportunities for an ongoing set of books.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 September 2016If you're looking for action you really need to look elsewhere. Very little civil war tie in. Overall I was disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book very much. My love if the west, especially N.D, and Montana
My mother was born in Rosebud, Montana in 1915. My grandparents were homesteaders. In 1918 they traveled to N.D. to visit grandma's parents and grandpa contracted the flu and died. They remained there and grandma met and married the only maternal grandpa I ever knew. A wonderful man. Four more children joined the family but there was never any yours or mine, they were ours.
My original grandpa was from Mt. Pleasant, Pa.
In 1934 my mother traveled to Pa to visit her grandparents and met the man who would be my father. This was in April. In August he traveled to Edgeley, N.D. and they traveled to Aberdeen, S.D. and were married, returning to Pa via the World's fair in Chicago, IL. But I digress.
I totally enjoyed Longshot into the West. The characters are believable. The history and geography are believable. The family involvement coupled with their short comings lend believability once again.
I look forward to reading the next book as well as the novelette, "Bridget".
Thank you Keith for a very enjoyable night spent reading this book to the end. Well worth a few yawns the following day.
You have a fan in me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting novel. Less exciting than the first book.
I enjoyed the first book in the Long shot series, but due to some of the negative reviews, I almost didn't read this second book. While not nearly as exciting or action filled as the first book, it nonetheless gives the reader some idea of life in the Northwest during the Civil War. Long shot has given up his work as an assassin, but still works undercover for Pinkerton. The bulk of the book is a bout his travels to what is now Washington state, and the people who travel with him or whom he meets along the way. It's a short book so it doesn't take long to read. My two complaints about this book are that one, Longshot continues to survive incidents that would prove fatal to most in those days, and two, for someone supposedly undercover to spy on Southern sympathizers, Long shot is quick to trust people he has just met and tells them his mission. That began to grate by the end of the book. As with book one, the story is complete, although reading book one gives you more background into Longshot's and other ongoing characters. While I did enjoy this book, I missed the action and suspense from the first book. Not sure I will continue this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kind of disappointed
While the writing was just as great as ever, I found the story dragged and far too short. Perhaps I've been spoiled by reading two of the other titles in this series first. Still... Keith is by far one of my favorite historical fiction writers on the planet!!
