Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Ian was born in the geographical wilderness that is Earlsfield, South West London. Despite this early setback, he was considered quite a bright student. That is, until he went to secondary school, where it all fell apart. He found messing about to be much more rewarding than education, and managed to get himself expelled from school just in time to avoid taking any exams.

Ian is the author of I, Sociopath, and the co-author of the Alan and Frankie series with Paul Waller.

Ian will admit that Shelley (the sit-com from the 70s and 80s, not the poet) has been the biggest influence on his life, and avoiding hard work is, ironically, something he works really hard at, to varying degrees of success.

When he is not writing, Ian can be seen either on the terraces at AFC Wimbledon, or in the stands at Streatham Ice Hockey Club, and would very much like to own a dog.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book over the last week. A good story of how the simple folk inhabiting schools, pubs and theatres can take on the commercial bullies that seem to always get their way.
The characters are fun, easy to get to know and just like the people we all have in our lives.
The story is good, following a gentle pace and allowing for some of the oddities to be woven in, raising your eyebrows, scratching your head and wondering how or why it’s been included.
The humour is the motor that runs throughout. Not always the laugh out loud (although that happens) but plenty of the shoulder shaking that gets those around you asking “what?”.
A good read, well written and one that won’t frazzle your brain. Right, what’s next in Paul & Ed’s portfolio?

Really really enjoyed this book. An intriguing and well-executed premise sets the platform for a fun and well-paced story line. There’s genuinely a laugh on every page and the writers have done a great job of fleshing out each character - it would have been easy to focus on the laughs and leave the characterisation as an after thought. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series (Spoiler alert: I’ve also read the second book and it doesn’t disappoint!)

Not a bad debut (I believe it's the first), and a refreshing concept. I won't spoil the plot, but in brief it follows a part-time comedian and his (& his friends') efforts to maintain a local venue which is under threat from developers... And the main character gets help from an unexpected ally. I think this is also self-published, which is great, although there were a few telling typos. I'm not one to criticise- until I've published my very own novel with not one error (never going to happen!), I'm not in a position to judge!. It's an easy read.

A great read, keeps you entertained and chuckling from start to finish. Would make a fantastic sitcom. It has well developed believable characters, and for me the South London locations are familiar territory, although the exact details have been changed to protect the innocent and possibly the guilty. I hope that there will be a follow up book and possibly a broader audience for this talented writing team.

The title alone was worthy of 5-Stars. A good debut book that was an easy read. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the dry humour. Well done!
