- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 July 2016Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseA slow start, but if you can get through the first couple of chapters it becomes a good read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2015Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseA fantastic read! Once I had read a few chapters I found it hard to put down. It even made me late for work a couple of mornings as I just wanted to read the rest of the chapter! How annoying when I got to the end and found it was to be continued!! I want to read it now! !
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2024Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseAn interesting story, and I would possibly have considered reading further in the series, except I won't. The style of writing was a bit annoying, and the words were often the wrong ones, making me wonder whether it was a poor translation. but, the most, annoying, thing was, the constant use, of commas, in, the wrong, place, and if I never have, to read another, comma, that will, be, too soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stormcall - E.M.F. Chronicles #1
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseMark Prior goes on a backpacking holiday with his friends around the Aegean Islands. On the mysterious island of Samothrace, Mark and and friends Alice, Telemachus and Jose find a relic that holds a medieval power known as the blue lightning which grants phenomenal powers to whoever brandishes it. Mark and his friends go on an adventure to Mount Saos to find the magical circle of stones in Glastonbury. Mark, Alice, Telemachus and Jose friendship is tested as they discover their newfound abilities and how to control it. I really enjoyed this fascinating paranormal urban fantasy novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable but Rough
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI'm about 25% into this book and want to log my initial reaction. The plot seems okay but is taking a bit of time to unfold from the beginning action scene. The writing is a bit stilted and the the dialogue juvenile additionally, things get thrown into the story at odd times. Here is an example: “I am cold!” she sounded really exasperated. “All this cold can't be good for my asthma! I have all these things happening to me, and in the end it's going to be impossible for me to have a baby!” she whimpered... This is taken from when the four protagonists are held up in a cave during a rain storm. What, if anything does her fertility have to do with being cold and wet? Also, there is a strong air current in the cave they become trapped in, but one character is concerned they are running out of oxygen. I'll continue reading and will do a proper review later, I just want potential readers to understand this book has a bit of roughness to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot, but a long time to get there.
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseIf you're a Grammar Nazi, you may want to steer clear of this book. I think there must have been a sale on commas...maybe buy one get five free. The author uses commas where none is needed. Additionally word tenses were used incorrectly throughout. They used "breath" when they meant "breathe"; they used "millennial" when they meant "millennia". The story was good, but it took a long time to get there. Overall, if you can overlook the aforementioned problems, you'll enjoy the plot.
