but for me things developed to fast between the two main characters. That's not what I'm used to by her previous books. An interesting story nevertheless. I like Ellie as I like all her heroines and, as I'm not a fan of romance novels, I tend to read very fast over these parts. But there is so much of a good story left, that I can really enjoy the book.A good mixture of humour and thrill.

The story was gripping, the people were interesting. BUT the continued use of endless bad language spoilt the whole thing. Will not pay for further books, because I would not like to waste my money for bad language to spoiling a reading experience.

I'm not a fan of romance novels that have no plot, but this certainly had a plot. Ellie Phillips is hunting treasure while Jaboc Hawkins is hunting her. It certainly makes for some interesting situations, especially when the sparks between them start to fly.

This book is jam-packed full of adventure, which is broken up with humour and witty banter. There were parts of it that I could have predicted - mainly the romance storyline, but there were just as many that I didn't see coming. Just when I thought I'd guessed something, something else happens. I liked being kept on my toes.

Definitely recommending to everyone I know.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly an okay light romantic treasure hunter yarn with light comedy sprinkled throughout.
Reviewed in Canada on 11 July 2017
Well I must say Claire Chilton has written a perfectly reasonable story here. Ellie Phillips, our femme fatale, is one of a kind. Opinionated beyond belief, bombastic, flighty, and prone to knee jerk reactions. And she's a second generation thief, following in her father's footrteps. In other words, this is a different kind of treasure hunter, romantic comedy. Yup - comedy. A lot of light moments here that fit right into the story and have you smiling frequently. The "F" word crops up to often for my liking, I guess probably to try to make a light story a bit more adult. As usual, though, Ellie and Jacob Hawkins, the guy she stole a treasure map from initially, don't like each other, but rapidly grow on one another - but without letting the other know - which is a common format for this type of yarn. The romantic side of the story is quite predictable, and for that matter, so is the treasure hunt side too. Although Ellie does go from piller to post getting shot, nearly drowned and surviving overall by sheer dint of having Jacob around to bail her out. A very light easy to follow predictable read with comedy helping to make the story a bit more palitable. At the end of the day, it's actually not to bad at all.......Guess I liked it, eh?.

4.0 out of 5 stars Treasure hunting at it's finest!
Reviewed in the United States on 6 September 2015
I loved the prequel (Heist) but was a little disappointed when Ellie's father was killed before the start of this book. I was expecting a smoother con and more of a team effort. Much to my surprise, Ellie has struck out on her own with backup from her friend/brother Jimmy, and is working for one of the biggest and nastiest men in the business. While on a recovery mission for him, she accidentally breaks the artifact she is supposed to be stealing. When she discovers a treasure map hidden inside, she recovers it and manages to extradite herself from a very sticky situation. From there it is a treasure hunting nightmare with a race to the finish. Between the bullets there is romance, fighting, and plenty of unsaid accusations. Lots of action, some laughs, and unexpected conclusions mix together to make a fast and fun read.
Once again Ms Chilton's graphic descriptions had me sweltering in the jungle and tensing at every sound I heard. I could almost smell the rotting corpse and the dank inside of the caves. She makes everything seem so real! A delight to read her books. You won't want to miss this one!

    3.0 out of 5 stars 3 Stars.

I loved, and disliked this book in many different ways. To be concise (and a bit awkward) this book was like Hamburger Helper in many ways. It was meaty, hearty, and rich but not exactly the finest of meals. It's satisfying in its somewhat generic guilty pleasure way, but you've had way better foods, and you'll have way better again. Inferior, yet not unsatisfactory, but still satisfying. Inferior: many cliché aspects, and overexplicated areas. Satisfactory: good (not great) characters and language style. Satisfying/ Fulfilling: clichés can be classic and heartwarming that we don't mind hearing over again in the right setting, plus it wasn't totally cliché, plus easy reading, moving plot, and action/ motive credibility was good.

If you're not super critical you'll enjoy this book, as I did. But it's more action and heartwarming, versus amazing or intriguing. 3 stars.
