Incubation: A Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Survival Thriller Series (Green Fields Book 1) Kindle Edition
If the zombie apocalypse happens tomorrow—how would you spend your last day?
All Dr. Brianna Lewis wants is a cup of coffee.
Coffee, to make slaving away in her cell culture lab at Green Fields Biotech a little more bearable on a Friday afternoon when everyone is home already.
What she doesn’t count on is a group of terrorists blowing up all the entrances to the building and taking her and a select few others hostage. Bree soon finds herself conflicted. Not only does she know their charismatic leader. She also starts to suspect that there is a lot more to this than the hunt for an illegal bioweapon—a virus that could potentially kill millions in just a few days—particularly as there is currently a flu epidemic raging across the country, and reports about violent behavior among the afflicted are getting more and more alarming.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 October 2023I am totally in love with the Green Fields series and I’ve only read the first book Incubation. I was really just reading a few pages because it seemed familiar and I never put it down. I was engrossed from the first page, totally. It’s fast-paced, great characters, not many likeable though, and the storyline is excellent. I can’t wait to start Outbreak .
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 June 2016Good plot leading up to the end of civilization, as usual it s full of superstar special forces types armed to the teeth (but it is America so its feasible) and I guess to be fair the military are probably the only folk who would survive these things. Cannot say I didn't like it as I am on the third book now.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 April 2025I really enjoyed this book. The story flows soooo well and is so well written. I need to read more.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 November 2015Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Good fast paced story with good character development. Unlike other zombie books, this started with the back story, the why and where aspect to a zombie apololyspe. With only one or two exceptions, zombies really don't make an entrance until the last chapter. Few issues with the main character Bri, what self respecting woman ever thought to herself, he ' fcuks like a Trojan' - God, totally unnecessary and weird, I nearly stopped reading, it was completely out of sync with these character as she was portrayed. Don't know why it bothers me so much, but those four words were nearly a game changer, and I'm no prude, it just didn't fit? Also, there was way too much grinning going on, boyish grin, manly grin, shy grin...at one stage all the grinning was making me so antsy I was reaching for a thesaurus to look up alternatives to shout out. That aside it's a great little read, it's no Steinbeck, but well worth sitting up late for, five stars and I'm off to download book two and hoping for more of the same. Enjoy!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2023OK I downloaded this book as a filler between other authors new releases J bonds is waiting for me right now. BUT and this is a big but, I'm hooked totally hooked this was so well written and I haven't seen my family for a full day because I couldn't put it down so the next in the series is waiting. I will read bond's first because its the 10th in the series and I have been waiting a while for it. Then I will most definitely be reading the rest of this series. I have to know the deal with Nates pain threshold and Bre she didn't seem too fussed by all the knocks bumps and scrapes, I know adrenaline can do that but only too a certain extent. So yeah my family is going to be losing me to another series of zombie books I can't wait. Thank you Adrienne for a fantastic book!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 January 2017This is the first of Mr Lecters books I've read, I have to admit I don't normally read other books & stick to the authors I already enjoy, very pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it, there were "terms" used in this book that went right over my head but not that much (which also surprised me lol) after this review I'm going online to buy book 2 of the Greenfields, I'd definitely tell my reading buddy's to read it, I've given this book 4 stars which if the next is as good as this or better then Adrienne you got 5 stars coming...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2024Kindle Unlimited offerings can be unpredictable in quality. Lecter’s opening episode of ‘Green Fields’ is worthy of being moved to the ‘proper’ Kindle range. Few new authors manage to tick the boxes of excellent narrative, natural dialogue, technical plausibility, plot momentum and incitement of reader curiosity, but Lecter shines in these areas. My only real criticism is character development; despite the knowledge that I have another eleven books to go, I still feel that my understanding of the characters should be clearer by now. I have yet to feel invested in them.
But I trust that Lecter’s skills in other areas mean that this will be addressed in upcoming episodes. And I look forward to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hält gefangen und ist faszinierend

5.0 out of 5 stars Reread
Just completed a reread, probably my third now, of GF1 and realised I hadn't left a review yet! Not cool.
The gf series is one of my top zompoc series. Not only is it overall plausible but the rawness of it all never ceases to amaze. The characters are so flawed yet perfect in a way that only a great author can pull off. Well written, well paced with a storyline that doesn't let up the entire series. Can't recommend enough. Now, off to finish my reread and wait for book 12!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-told story of an attack on a research establisment
Told from the point of view of the female heroine protagonist. Plenty of action but I found the emoting a bit over the top, from my male perspective, hence the missing star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Wanted Series To End! Gripping, Cringe -Worthy Uniqueness
Just completed the entire series - FANTASTIC!!!
Only the most masterful of wordsmiths can pull off crafting such an extremely long series of books and keep the story fresh, exciting, non-repetitive, gripping, while also continually adding new elements which keep you guessing right along with the characters. And thus it left me fully and completely engaged in the tale from page one to the last. While still wanting more!
The character development is spot-on, kicked right off by being drawn straight into the story by personal thoughts, individual and shared actions, and dialogue between the characters. This creates the perfect set-up for almost immediate investment in the main players' success and well-being. And, naturally, hopes for the horrific demise of others.
I could sum up the series as: an adventurous, zombie apocalypse, mystery, crindge-worthy, war story. With a sprinkle of just the right touch of love (couple, friendship/war buddies), as well as humor.
The books also contain some pretty graphic violence, degradation, and depravity. So if you're alright with that, it only enhances the entire reading experience. Kudos to Ms. Lecter for not shying away from these topics, as many others do - the actions humans are capable of, which absolutely WOULD occur in this type of apocalyptic situation.
Not so much specific weapon talk, but a whole lot of use. Conventional, and melee. Vehicles as well. Racing back and forth, all over the country, constantly. But never specific "mechanic talk." But if you enjoy driving, all they do within the pages, would probably be a fun ride for you. (Ok, that was painfully corny! lol)
Also, it was enjoyable to see many branches of our armed services represented. And working together. Well, sort of working jointly.
No spoilers. Only negative was the main character, Dr. Bree Lewis. She is amazing! I love her, and I am certainly a fangirl! That said, somewhere mid-way through the series I just felt .... aggravated. Annoyed. Like I wanted to punch her in the face. Something! Just to get her to just change a little. Grow some! She certainly does evolve as a person. No doubt. But along the way that evolution just ... stops. And where her growth stops, where she once was cool, and it was working for her, eventually it just gets old. Like - grow up a little. You can still hold on to 85% of the new you. I could say more, but I'll let you make your own judgement.
Overall, as I said above, I would love to read five more books continuing the Green Fields series! The ending is satisfying, with all strings nicely tied up. I do wish we could have seen the - what are the three called? Idiot Brigade? At the end. I guess they were still tucked away in the Silo. (No spoiler there, they are not important lol!) I just liked those guys.
Anyway --- this exciting, gripping, adventure isn't one to be missed. It's right up there at the top with the cream of the crop zombie apocalypse series. What makes the Green Fields series worthy besides everything I've mentioned, and do not have space to, is the fact that the story is unique. All the great series are. And Ms. Lecter certainly accomplished that here. Unique and gripping. Brava!
