Roller coaster of a read
Another fantastic read from my favourite author. Paige always manages to grip you within a few chapters! This time totally wasn't ready for the twist in the tale, but made a roller coaster of a read. No spoilers here, but I 100% recommend this! Also love how she manages to enter old charters. ❤️ My holiday read

I am a huge Paige Toon fan, and have been ever since reading her first release, Lucy in the Sky, back in 2007. Her books are often heart-warming, tear-jerking and poignant, and full of lovable and relatable characters. The One We Fell in Love With is no different – it might just be her best book yet.

Gosh, this book was just lovely, lovely, lovely. The story was addictive and easy to read, and I devoured it in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down for anything – I stayed in the same armchair all day, my eyes glued to the pages!

The story arc was perfectly choreographed. In my eyes, it was the most original novel Paige has written so far. It was so intriguing to read about triplets, and I was fascinated from the very first page. It was the first time that Paige has written from multiple viewpoints, and it worked amazingly. Each triplet had very unique personalities and their individual characterisation was extremely well distinguished.

I felt fully invested in the characters – especially Rose. I related to her so much. She is smart, sensible and wary and so much like me, I loved reading about her! Eliza and Phoebe were great too and the way their relationship dynamics were portrayed was clever and thought-provoking.

As usual, some of our favourite Paige Toon characters made an appearance, and it was lovely to have the inclusion of Lucy and Nathan in the end scene! Lucy in the Sky has always been my favourite – and Paige’s scene setting of Australia is always spot-on. She makes you long for the beautiful beaches and balmy weather. I also loved the descriptions of the French Alps and especially Jennifer’s Bakery that Rose works in – Paige never fails in her ability to vividly depict a scene!

This book had me thinking long after I’d turned the last page. I felt it was more emotionally mature than her previous novels, and I loved the family values that are built up and become prominent in the end chapter. The events throughout were emotional, and provoked many tears! I feel that Rose, Eliza and Phoebe’s lives were illustrated perfectly through Paige’s genius writing lens.

The One We Fell in Love With was heart-warming, uplifting, bittersweet, but charmingly happy too. I finished the book, and closed my eyes, just savouring that precious feeling you get after spending several hours lost in the midst of a story. Warmth spread through me as I read it – it was a beautiful story about subtle tragedy, love, and the strength of family.

New year, new Paige Toon book! This is actually one of the highlights in my book blogging year. This year is even more special, because it’s her 10th novel (not counting her YA books).
Paige really surprised me with this book, it’s unexpected and unique and I mean that all in a good way!!!

The story follows triplets: Phoebe, Rose and Eliza, they all fell for the same guy. When they were 17 years old Angus moved in next door. Phoebe saw him first, but did she really?! Well they got together, but also Eliza and Rose fell for him.
    Life goes on…

All three women are lovely and first I really liked Phoebe, but then I got to like Rose even more and I also really warmed up to Eliza, she even was my fave in the end. They are triplets, but aside from the look they couldn’t not be more different. Their personalities and interests are unique and all of them went into a totally different direction. Paige found a great way to include all their feelings, she switched perspectives in the chapters. We found out a lot about their past and how it all developed with Angus. We can read about Rose and her struggles in both life and with love, we hear about Eliza and her passion for music and Phoebe’s passion for the mountains. Diary entries make this whole process even more exciting.

A sudden event changes all their lives and I was shocked as well. Rose comes back home and Eliza has difficulties controlling her feelings. What all three sisters go through is intense and hard.

Next to Angus we also meet other male characters. I have to be honest, I didn’t really warm up to Angus, he was just there all the time. Who I really liked as a character was Toby and I think he adds a great touch to the story (I can’t tell you more here, I would spoil it, so just go and read the book!!!).

It was adorable to read about the relationship between the sisters, at first they seemed really distant, but that changed and I was really happy about that. It feels like they went through an important journey in this book, learning about love, heartache, family and much more.

Of course Paige didn’t disappoint me with previous characters having an appearance again, I just love this about her books.

Like a lot of people, I thought this was going to be a book about three women fighting for the same man, but no it’s not! It’s a lot more than that, a touching story with a deep meaning. Paige but herself on a whole new level with that! I can’t stop thinking about the story and how clever the idea behind it is. Her writing adds a lot of sparks to the storyline and creates a beautiful atmosphere.

In the end you just want all three to be happy and I think Paige created a perfect storyline, with well lined out characters, a lot of passion, beautiful writing and a wonderful ambiance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Buch
Reviewed in Germany on 13 July 2016

5.0 out of 5 stars a plot twist you never see coming
Reviewed in the United States on 19 May 2016
In short – this story is about triplets that all falls in love with the same man.

But it's also about so much more.....

This story is about three girls – not just girls, but sisters, and IDENTICAL triplets at that. But despite their alike appearance they all have a very different nature.

Phoebe – the middle one – is the popular one, the kind of girl that everyone loves. When we meet her she's only a few weeks from getting married to the love of her life, and therefor spends her bachelorette party as a holiday in the french alps that she loves so much. There's history here for her, and a life that she feels she needs to say goodbye to......

Rose - the oldest by 12 mintures - the more ”mature” one of the girls according to her. When we meet her she's moving back to Manchester, having quit her job as a nurse in London to begin all over. She's unsure of where to go from there, but she needs the new start…...

And Eliza – the youngest. Most people would describe her as being the quirky one, the wild one, the one that still at the age of 27 relies too much on her parents (living at home etc). Her biggest dream is to become a singer, but a lack of support makes it seems like a silly dream.......

This story is about sisterhood and all the feelings involved – siblings rivalry, jalousy, love and the all in the between. Add to them that they are identical, so they fight a lot to show people I am not her, she is not me.

I'm afraid I can't give away more because this is a book that you have to go blank into, to really get the impacts from the story. It's a story where one situation (their father's dead) makes them question the life they have now, setting them off a journey that's full of surprices.

How it's written – it's written from each of the sisters pov, alternating between Phoebe, Rose and Eliza (only first chapter is told from Angus's pov, and it's a HOT one, and also a really liberating one because it gives us a view of what he is thinking, which is much needed)
I tend to skip books with a lot of povs because they often seems to be dragging, but I thought The One We Fell In Love with was very well done.
The alternating povs are a great help to understand how compleks a story it is, both for the characters individually but also as a general overview.
There was though one of the pov I had trouble connecting to, but I think it mostly had something to do with that I had a feeling where the story was going, and I did not want to go that way. The hashtag #thatbit you probably will spot in several reviews refers to this bit, and it is that secret bit that suddenly makes the story makes sense, and explain why the characters are the way they are. It's also why I can't tell you much about that bit. It's a realisation that will both make you gisp, long, and close the book in anger. But of couse you don't because you want to find out what happens next. xx

This was a gripping tale, where the author definitely liked to cement her title as the queen of bittersweet. My jaw was twisted with pain for most of the time of the read, and when I turned the last page I was left with a very lonely and empty feeling. I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THE STORY!
I loved this book. I loved the sister theme in it, I loved the message, I cried with the characters, and I swooned several places too.
