Slave Narrative Six Pack - Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Twelve Years A Slave, Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation, The Life of Olaudah Equiano, William ... (Slave Narrative Six Pack Boxset Book 1) Kindle Edition
For the Europeans and Americans, the division between captivity as slaves and as prisoners of war was not always clear. A broader name for these works is "captivity literature."
Slave Narrative Six Pack presents six of the most famous examples of the genre:
Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation in 1838-1839 by Frances Anne Kemble
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Or Gustavus Vassa, The African by Olaudah Equiano
The Life of William H. Furness by William Still
Captain Canot; or, Twenty years of an African slaver: being an account of his career and adventures on the coast, in the interior, on shipboard, and in the West Indies by Brantz Mayer

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2017Good selection of those "much quoted, seldom read" books you really OUGHT to read. I hadn't actually read Uncle Tom's cabin before, let alone the others and it wasn't what I expected. Make time for these, they really are worth it, and topical to boot.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2015For the price, this is ultimate value. I've just finished the first, Uncle Tom's Cabin, which is a five-star story in itself.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 August 2015I’ve been buying these wonderful ‘Six Packs’, and just added the Slave Narrative Six Pack to my library. For this price you can’t beat these classics. Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe was my favorite. Educational and powerful, these stories will open your eyes about slaves, prisoners, history, and war. Plus interesting illustrations in the back. If you’re a history lover of classics, you can’t miss this excellent Six Pack.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2015I read the Slave Narrative collection with pleasure: the six stories talks about the reality of slavery which sometimes we forgot to remember.
It turns out there's more of a simple 'African-American slavery' topic to be treated in them: modern slavery is not much different from the old one and these intense stories can teach you something about everyday silent slavery as well.
The stories are also well written and flow smoothly - a plus point to be added at the lovely crafted illustrations attached.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2015This collection is an important series of books. Not only historical but educational. I suggest that people have their kids read this collection. Absolutely fantastic - totally worth the meagre 99 cents to purchase. Excellent.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2015I remember reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe, and the impact it had on most of my class. "The Slave Narrative Six Pack," is a wonderful history and educational read for children, with illustrations depicting the hardships and emotions that enslaved people have endured in the past...to present times. The British brought the people from Africa, and soon their colonies in America and the Caribbean bought, owned, and forced labor and hardships upon these captured people. I thoroughly read each little narrative that were the voices of the enslaved. I would recommend this series to everyone...less we forget what happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Une histoire palpitante et touchante!
Cette histoire vécue est très touchante, mais elle nous permet d'avoir une bien meilleure compréhension du vécu des esclaves africains pendant des siècles. J'ai hâte d'en terminer la lecture!

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrific but important first-person accounts
Compelling stories written by people from all walks of life. You get the perspectives from an enslaved free man, from slave holders ("good" and bad), etc. The worst was the narrative from a slaver. Like today, everything is all about the money. Sad, moving first-person accounts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Collectively, all six packs are good.
If you have no background in 19th Century Slavery, these six packs are the way to go. If you do have a background, the repeats of everything you've read before can be frustrating. So check titles prior to purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars These stories are a must for the children of Israel
Wonderful collection. And these are only the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more to dive into.
