A Chance for Sunny Skies (What's in a Name? Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 602 ratings

Sunny Skies is drowning.

The problem, besides the whole not-being-able-to-breathe part, is that when her life flashes before her eyes, she doesn't recognize any of it. Convinced the universe phoned in a default slideshow, Sunny gives in to the current.

After a fisherman snags the twenty-six year old in his net, she decides it's time to cast off her hermit like ways. When she meets slightly-less-awkward-than-her Brian, an archery-loving neat freak, she discovers that living her new life might be scarier than drowning.

But scary or not, this may be the only chance for Sunny Skies.

I loved this book and was a great way to relax, chill and unwind after a busy day.

I could so relate to the yoga scene in the book, it had me laughing out loud. It reminded me of my first yoga session.

It is well written, smooth flowing and the story moves along at a good pace. The main characters are interesting and lovable, and the secondary characters lovely too.

Give it a go I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

This is the first time I’ve read this author’s work. It is a romance/ chick lit with some laugh-out-loud moments, & although it didn’t hook me in from the very start (I struggled with the first few chapters & nearly gave up), it fairly gathered speed & I finished it in one day, stopping just to make & eat dinner!

Painfully shy & reclusive Sunny Skies has a near death experience, & images flash in front of her as she decides to give in to drowning: a white picket fence; a yoga bag; a single green shoe; things that have nothing to do with her life!

Driving home from work one day, she stops outside a building, having caught sight of the same white picket fence (the first of her images) & meets “Rainy” - Rainbow Gold - who runs a tea shop. On a different visit, she meets a lady carrying a yoga bag, the one from her image. Sunny Skies decides it must be the Universe’s way of sending her a message, & with the help of Rainy & yoga, she sets out to be a “new Sunny”: more positive; more outgoing; more confident.

She falls for lovely blue eyed Brian, owner of the green shoe, but tongue-tied Sunny runs away before they even manage a conversation! Full of regret, she tries to find him, but it is Brian who finds her first...

So we follow Sunny’s journey as she begins to change her life, outlook & personality, & tries dating & change jobs etc often with hilarious results, but occasionally not so successfully.

Although a clean read in that there are no sex scenes, there are a few swear words scattered throughout the book. As I’ve said already, I didn’t like the start of the book, which I found to be slow & boring, but the remainder is good, especially her attempts at dating. Give it a chance, & you may find you like it (like me, who’s looking forward to reading the next book in the series, which is about Rainbow Gold). 3.5*

'I simply cackled and shoe-farted past the poor man'.....this is my favourite sentence in the book and if it makes you laugh, you'll enjoy this heartwarming and very funny book.

I really enjoyed this book. The Heroine Sunny has severe anxiety and at the moment she believes she is about to drown realises no one on earth would miss her.. She sees a number of images and when she is rescued decides she has to change her life. The images she that flashed before her eyes begin to appear in her day to day life as a sign. It is funny, quirky and heart warming to follow her on her journey to friendship and love.

    A truly wonderful story.

A story of sunny and her quest to find herself a better, more loved life following a near death experience.

This was not an atypical romance story. This was more a story of self awareness and growth as a person, very inspiring. It was uplifting and parts of the story had me laughing out loud which garnered me a few strange looks. Sunny was such an intriguing character and in some ways relatable.

The relationship between Brian and sunny was beautiful to see unfold. I also loved the relationship between rain and sunny. How Rain coaxed sunny out of her shell and gave her the love and support that sunny was in desperate need of in her life was brilliant.

    A very inspiring story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read

Sunny Skies is an anxiety-filled loner until she nearly drowns. This heartwarming tale follows Sunny as she faces her fears and actually starts to live rather than simply exist. It's well written, the characters are likeable, and time spent with this novel is time well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fast paced, very well written. You WILL *love* Sunny Skies

I picked up two books with good reviews. Started reading one. Five pages through, decided it wasn't worth finishing - and opened the next. It was "A Chance for Sunny Skies". When I checked a few minutes later, I was on page 40 - and it was more than a "few minutes" later!

Right from the word 'Go', Eryn's lovely narrative skills pulled me deep into the world of anxiety-ridden Sunny Skies - and refused to let me come up for air (though, luckily, she was kinder to Sunny, who survives a near-drowning episode during which she experiences 7 'flash-before-your-eyes' images that set the tone for the rest of this engaging story).

Rarely does a writer get me to empathize so deeply with a character. Mario Puzo did it with 'The Godfather'. But then, Don Corleone was a powerful role model - not a angsty, unsure, nervous-as-heck twenty-something who guzzles soda and stuffs pizza into her face as comfort for the stresses her world imposes on herself.

Yet, having never myself felt that kind of uncertainty, or ever been bullied so badly, I could deeply identify with Sunny Skies (what a name, right?!) because Ms.Scott paints such a brilliant picture of her through this novel.

And so, as the story progresses, I smiled and cried, soared in joyous delight and plunged into numbed sadness, at each dip and rise in Sun's everyday life. By the end of the story, you'll be cheering for Sunny's "wins", booing her detractors, and learning a few precious life lessons along the way as well.

All in all, a good read - fun, fast paced, very well written and worth recommending to a friend (or ten). Thank you, Eryn Scott, for the window into the life of Sunny Skies!

Sunny è una giovane donna che non riesce a relazionarsi. Non ha amici, vive in un mondo di quasi silenzio e autoesclusione. Un evento particolare cambierà la sua vita in modo drastico e positivo.
