- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2016A short book that I read in a day. At first I didn't think I would stick with it as nothing very much happened for a while (except, that is, for a spelling mistake in the very first sentence - very off-putting!). However, the reviews were excellent so I kept going without too much of a struggle and was pleased that I did, since this kind of book was something of a new experience for me. This is a most unusual story, unfolding as it does to become a tale of the supernatural, a genre I don't normally rate very highly. I won't give away the plot, but it is interesting and rather intriguing, arriving at a conclusion that may to some be satisfactory, but which did not altogether satisfy me. I would just add that the book requires a final proof-reading as it is sprinkled with spelling and grammatical mistakes which are distracting, but give it a try - it's a highly unusual tale.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 January 2016I really enjoyed reading the Quietus, I read it on a long haul flight a couple of weeks ago. A nicely written dark thriller with some excellent twists and turns. I loved the character Carrie and Sophie... just wow :)
Read it , i don't think you will be disappointed
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 August 2015Not my usual style of book, I don't really do anything fantasy or Sci Fi based! That's not to say that this book falls into those genres! It's a dark and disturbing story of teenage first love, cultivating the themes of obsession, sexual awakening and teenage emotions! The writing keeps you entranced, I read it in one sitting! The sense of mystery keeps you wondering what happened and I loved the references to Jersey! Worth a read!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 July 2015This is a wonderfully dark thriller about an reclusive young man, who becomes enamoured with neighbour, Carrie. Both help each other to move forward to answer questions in their lives. It is mysterious as it is dark, twisted as it is sexy. The author delicately drops in little suggestive seeds making you think the story is headed towards a particular popular teenage genre, and smacks you with another, more elegant and imaginative direction. I tend to think, with reading, if the first two chapters haven't engaged me, I'll put the book down. With Quietus, I drank that book up in one afternoon. The story still sticks with me the following day. Get it. ad it. Love it. I considered being cruel and deducting a star as there are a few spelling mistakes in the second half of the book. Other than that, I'd enthusiastically recommend this book, to any adult. Get it. Read it. Love it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 February 2017Well devised and thought out thriller, a real page turner with a clever ending. Deserves to be brought to the attention of a wider audience. Can't wait for the next book from this promising new author.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2015A hard to put down thriller with unexpected twists along the way. Well worth a read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 August 2015'Quietus' is a well written dark disturbing novel and psycologically gripping, I couldn't put it down!
Even after the final page I found myself dwelling on the story days later.
Well worth a read if you fancy something different
