About the author

I'm from Lancashire in the North of England, a bleak place that influenced Winterfell in Game of Thrones. I love a good story, afternoons in the sun with my wife, zombies, watching Game of Thrones, stroking dogs and medium-rare steak.
Check out my book series if you're a fan of horror or post-apocalyptic fiction:

Great Zombie read

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2016I like this series, like it a lot. It's grim, dark and bleakly Northern. Being set in good old Blighty, there are none of the chapters filled with gun-porn and shoot outs and ammo counts and 'head shots only guys!' that is to be found within those of this genre written by our American cousins. Here, the story is told with the blade of a knife or hidden, terrified, behind a fallen log in the cold, wet dark as the infected pass by whilst you hope your empty and growling stomach doesn't give you away and because of this, the story is more immersive. The story itself is straightforward and easy to follow and my only grumble is that its quite short however, for the price, that's fair enough. I've also read the next two in the series, which are of the same high standard as this, and am eagerly awaiting the fourth.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 June 2015I've read lots of zombie books and I fancied something a bit closer to home living in Newcastle (the true north). The characters were easy to understand and the story was easy to follow. Only gripe I have is there was a petrol tank at the farm, it should of been diesel really, but that's just me being nitpicky. I read this book quickly and would of liked a bit more background on how the 'stalkers' came to be and how they become different to the infected band how the whole thing started. The main character is understandably angry but fellows at the end. I will be buying the next one and would recommend!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2016Fear the Dead is a zombie apocalypse novel. Set fifteen years after the initial outbreak, the reader finds Kyle Vauss who has spent his time wandering around England. He lost his wife but always remembered the promise he made to her that they would reach the old farm owned by her dad and so with a battered old GPS and armed with nothing more than the bag on his back, he sets out to find it.
Kyle is waylaid one night when a stalker--something that has evolved from being just a zombie--begins to stalk him. He is wounded and taken to the local town where he meets Justin, a teenager born inside the walls of Vasey and without a clue how the real world is outside. Justin attaches himself to Kyle in a move that outwits him and Kyle has no choice but to let him tag along if he plans to reach the farm. They are dogged along the way by more than just zombies.
This was a good read. I found that at times Kyle was a little unlikable--it felt like he was just being mean for the sake of it, however most of the time it was fine.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2015As a big fan of the zombie and apocalypse genres, I highly recommend this book. The characters are relatable and the plot is gripping and holds your attention to the end. Similar to other reviews on here, I also love the Brittish slant (especially northern) on a normally US dominated genre. If you like the zombie and apocalypse genres, read this book! I can't wait for the next addition from the author...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 May 2015I liked the overall plot of the story but the way the author has wrote he could of been thirteen. There is no use of italics to show thought, so at times it was confusing to understand what was going on. The author hasn't outlined some of the problems and left them unresolved throughout but otherwise a very good book to buy if you alright reading it and correcting it as you go on...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 February 2016I bought this book on kindle unlimited, it is not a very long book being able to read in 2 hours, but those 2 hours are well spent.
We start the book with Kyle a man on a mission, he is angry a loner and the most distrustful man on the planet at the moment.
He is on a mission to reach a cottage his wife and himself owned, he is 400 miles away, but the zombies don't let go, he is hungry, weak and not at his best.
When he comes across a shack in the woods, he is not surprised to see 3 men, but he does not trust them to stay with them for the night. He hides in a tree, and falls asleep. He is saved by the men, but loses one of them to the zombies. They want him to come to Vasey a fortified construction they are staying in, however,he does not want this to happen. He is joined by a young lad called Justin, who has tampered with his GPS mobile unit, but states that he has a memory that can get him to the cottage.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 February 2017Having read several reviews I decided to read this as part of a much bigger picture but it didn't really work. Kyle was the main character. I would describe him as the type of man that you hope your daughter never marries. He is arrogant, dictatorial and he appears to hate the rest of mankind. I felt I was entering a story a third the way through as the life he had led prior to this point, was brushed over. Throughout the story I found myself questioning events as they didn't make sense and there were no answers. This is really a loose introduction to the following series of books but there were so many unanswered questions. I wont list them as it will spoil it for others. If you want a reasonable light read and you are willing to ignore the gaps in the story then this might fit the bill.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 May 2015I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kyle the lead character is a good man and despite being a little pig-headed is a compelling character. He is full of rage, but it is understandable after what he has been through.
Excellent baddies and a realistic depiction of a post apocalyptic future. Fear the Dead has left me wanting more and I'd love to know what happens next. I would read a sequel in a heartbeat!
Good on you Jack Lewis.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read
A basic zombie story serves as the back drop for a broken man who carries the weight of the his misery inside his gut. The main characters are well developed, and the violence and creature description were good. Kyle, the main character who also tells the story, is not likable until the second half of the book. You start to see his humanity surface 15 years after the outbreak. He mourns his lost wife, but also mourns how he lost himself. It is a good read for your fundamental zombie fan without any real heavy lifting. Jack Lewis tells a good story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't fear - read - the dead
With so much zombie product, in books and television, Jack Lewis didn't come up with anything new in "Fear the Dead." However, I had a blast reading this book, the first fun I've had in a while reading. There's two more that follow (at least, at the time of this review) and I am eager to read them!
