Louisa May Alcott was both an abolitionist and a feminist. She is best known for Little Women (1868), a semi-autobiographical account of her childhood years with her sisters in Concord, Massachusetts. Alcott, unlike Jo, never married: "... because I have fallen in love with so many pretty girls and never once the least bit with any man." She was an advocate of women's suffrage and was the first woman to register to vote in Concord, Massachusetts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not really appropriate for kids, but interesting for adults who like a glimpse into the late 1800s.

Not Ms. Alcott's best writing, and there is some racist content concerning Asian people, but the overall story is pretty good for its time, which is the late 1800s. It has a sequel that follows all the characters into adulthood and shows the result of the wise or foolish actions of each of the cousins, especially the oldest ones. It reflects the progressive ideas and moral tone that pervades Alcott's work.

Print from this publisher was very difficult to read. Extremely small for both books. Granddaughter was also disappointed because she requested both of these books for Christmas .
