- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 May 2013a truly great read that needs to be recognised and read.
the world building is original and well depthed, leaving you with a clear vivid idea of where the scene is set.
so many strong character personalities that im suprised she managed to pick a main one.as a reader i could have read story
upon story about the most smallest appearing of characters.
the story itself pulls you in with many questions on your lips throughout and it seems as soon as you get an answer the next
riddle is ready and waiting to entice. a build up of various events leading to epic and eventful ending... certainly not something i
guessed during my earlier reading.
definatley worth my time and money.
well wrote, orginal, well paced, unpredictable = great reading
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2013The character development is excellent, as is the mix of characters. The author has a clear vision of her world and there are enough unique details in it to make it a bit different from other fantasy novels. The plot is clearly defined, and the action moves toward the resolution of that plot with no redundant scenes. This is Book I of a series, so the ending is left open.
I enjoyed this book and I'm sure other fantasy readers will too. However, I did feel the writing could be tightened, hence my rating of 3 stars.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2014Format: PaperbackA little slow in the beginning and a little to much coming at you at once was my main problem. Had to read the start over a few times as is focuses on to many people right from the beginning but definetly worth it!! Once you get into it you will be happy you got it! Can't wait for the next one!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2015Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseNever written a book review before but I thought I would give it a bash. I've had this book hidden away on my Kindle for quite a while before I managed to get some time read it and now I have I wonder why I waited for so long. There is a lot to take in at first, but the story soon settles down and moves along at a pace that kept me wanting to find out what happens next.
The book has left me wanting more and I hope the next one in the series isn't too long in coming.
So, great read, would thoroughly recommend and keep up the good work.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 September 2013When is the next one due and is there an alert I can set to let me know?
So very pleased to have found this and was sorry when I finally turned the last page and was left wondering what happens next.
A wonderful new author :)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2013A compelling storyline with increasing tempo, I dare you to put this book down before you reach the end!
The Graces is full of feisty characters and page-turning action; with a well structured plot that builds a world you can almost see.Throughout the story you develop an empathy with the characters; sharing their anxieties and their triumphs, culminating in a finale that takes your breath away!
Overall a fantastic debut and I genuinely look forward to reading the next installment in this saga!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2013If you love well constructed fantasy worlds, this book is for you! The plot in this book is also well crafted and the multiple point-of-views intertwine seamlessly and bring the reader deep within the story. Despite his flaws, I loved Idirin. His strength comes from the same place as his love for his daughter, and sorrow for his lost love. And one should not take that lightly! I hope to see more of him on the sequel. Arroryn is a young kick-ass heroine who, as she matures, has the potential to carry the entire series on her shoulders. Fortunately, she won't have to because Ms. Peers seems to have much more up her sleeve.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 August 2013As a reader of high/ epic fantasy my expectations were high and yet I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully complex and well thought out this storyline & plot was. Unknown author Dawn Peers creates a mesmerizing magical world like no other, with detailed histories of varying races and accounts of ages past make it incredibly credible. Entrenched within the storyline are age-old conflicts between races and vengeful thoughts on actions past, which hold much sway in regards to the direction that the storyline takes. `In the dying eyes of night' is the first installment within a planned series; `Graces of faded angels' whose compelling complexity is sure to maintain one's interest throughout and take your breath away.
Amid the fast-paced action and shocking drama is a cast of intriguing characters whose anxieties and triumphs, trials and tribulations capture your interest instantly. Once the plot takes hold it is extremely difficult to let go, as I lost myself within a dazzling world that is so vivid and `real' that I felt a part of it. This is a novel that is exceptionally well constructed and thought out, with the multiple POV's (points of view) seamlessly interconnecting so that you can loose yourself deeply within the tale. Many of the characters showed that one's strength comes from love, like for example with Idirin; whose broken heart and love for his daughter is touching. With a strong heroic main protagonist (Arroryn) alongside other feisty characters, I felt relaxed in the knowledge that I was reading something assured and fervent.
With great rulers fighting for supremacy and wronged thief's seeking atonement. Greedy and corrupted emissaries seeking solemnity, and a great nation and race of people putting right those wrongs that were put upon them ~ this is a mighty tale of magnificence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Legacy of Darkness (The Graces Book #1)
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI'm not good at writing reviews so I don't normally write them but I just had to on this one. The story was slow at first but the next thing I knew, I was so engrossed in the story I was looking for book #2 and was very disappointed when I didn't find it. When is book #2 coming out?
