Judgements: Nick Smith Book four (Nick Smith series 4) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 251 ratings

Two years have gone by since Nick and Beth met at the motorway services on the M3. They are now living the good life and a lot has changed for both them and the country. With Simon out of the way though, Klaus has his own plans and so does Liz. There is fighting between the north and the south. A crime family now runs Exeter and this leads to conflict between brother and brother. Nobody really knows who they can trust anymore and the good will get hurt along with the bad. This is a tale of plotting and intrigue, of kidnap and murder, with plenty of action. Nick is once more forced to act to save the innocent, and he now has so much more to lose.

I am so enjoying the Nick Smith Series. Just finished book 4 and couldn't put it down. 18 months in time have passed since book 3. We get more in-depth detail of how groups are surviving. Klaus appears again in this book plus the huge man Jeff that attacked Beth and her daughters in book one. This book is now set in the south of England in the summer of 2016 after the Flu pandemic which happened in the summer of 2014. Nick Smith is still keeping himself fit and exercises daily. While reading I can clearly picture each character and how England is looking so overgrown with weeds & dumped cars. Horses are now the main form of transport as diesel is scarce. There is violence, suspense and suspicion. Stephen Birch books keep you hooked. I cannot wait for book 5 in this series.

I stumbled on book four by accident and having read all the previous books in the series, i was very happy that i had. I wont go into detail in regards to the story as the previous review covered this really well but i will say that this book follows on brilliantly from the last, i actually downloaded it about 48 hours ago and i have finished it already, if that doesn't tell you how good this book/series is i don't know what will! I am so looking forward to book five and i am really hoping that Luke and Neil stick around for the trouble that is brewing.

Because I enjoyed the first 3 books (4 stars), I got this and the final one. However, I was very disappointed
and if this was the first book I had read, I would not be reading any more by this author. I give it 2.5 stars.

"A screw-loose" Jeff is the brother of the now dead Bill. Over 30% of the book (which is short anyway) is about
Jeff looking for alcohol; drinking it a bottle at a time; falling asleep drunk; getting angry because he needs another
drink and generally acting like a moron. This happened time and again and got very boring, with everyone treading
on eggshells to avoid upsetting him.

Then there was the constant use of the F-word on almost every page. I don't mind the odd swear word but this was
just OTT. The dialogue in general was something I would expect from a group of very young teenage boys, not supposedly
"hard men". Something like: "I'm going to Exeter ...." "You are going to Exeter?" Repeated to the next 3 characters to
enter the room until - "F .......... How many more times. I'm going to Exeter"

There was some action in between, such as at the pub, then the kidnap and the eventual rescue. However Nick, the most
interesting character to me, appeared in only about 20% of the book. The so-called criminal brothers who supposedly ran
Exeter were more like cardboard cutouts.

Sorry, but I really cannot recommend this book. I will read and review the final book shortly and hope that it will be up to the
standard of the first 3, which I do recommend.

Stumbled on the author a while back and constantly looked for the latest books to be released.
Sad I know but waited a while before reading this one, because I knew once I started it I would not be able to put it down. Work would of got in the way. Anyway finished it looked on line for any news on series five. To find that it had been released yesterday the first day of a weeks annual leave for me. So just about to start that one as I can't wait to find out Nick's latest adventure

Why has nobody especially the military no aircraft? Also the main protagonist never or rarely uses a gun. Enjoyable but not believable. Too many BIG men. Lol

I won't give any synopsis but I bought the first book as I had started reading zombie books, and bought the next 3 as I wanted to know more about the characters. to me a good author creates characters that the reader wants to learn more about. book 4 finished much too soon for me, and not wanting to ruin anything.. I liked Jeff. can't wait for no. 5.

SB has continued his epic series of an ex SAS soldier who just wanted to be left alone. Nick I'd not getting any younger and has become tired of the conspiracies that have been started at his family and friends. The death of friends has sent him a personal message that translates into an executive order issued by the legal government.....This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
