‘An unforgettable tale that I couldn't recommend more.’ 5/5 GirlsLovetoRead

If you enjoyed
Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, One Day by David Nicholls, or The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks – then make time for Kelly Rimmer’s stunning, heartbreaking new novel Me Without You.

A story of how love can break our hearts – and heal them.

A year ago I met the love of my life. For two people who didn’t believe in love at first sight, we came pretty close.

Lilah MacDonald – beautiful, opinionated, stubborn and all kinds of wonderful in ways that words could never quite capture. The woman who taught me to live again.

My Lilah, who gave me so much, and yet kept from me a secret that she knew would break my heart.

My name is Callum Roberts, and this is our story.

Me Without You is a book to make you smile, bring you to tears and remind you to hold on tightly to those you love.

What people are saying about Me Without You…

‘I was hooked right from the start, and it was just
the most beautiful portrayal of falling in love I've ever read. It's the type of love you dream of and want for yourself… Kelly Rimmer has done an outstanding job with Me Without You, it's engaging, it warmed my heart to the very core, and then tore it out and stomped all over it. (Quite meanly, may I add?) I knew it was coming, I knew the ending was inevitable before the first page, but the depth of Rimmer's writing and Callum's narrative slated me, and I ended up in tears. It was both sad and beautiful at the same time, and I admire Lilah for living her entire life on her own terms. I will miss Callum and Lilah. They stole into my heart, their story is one I will long remember and Me Without You is an unforgettable tale that I couldn't recommend more.' 5/5 GirlsLovetoRead

‘I fell in love with this amazing book after the first sentence and would read it all over again.
A wonderful mixture of emotions, real love, secrets, laughter and sadness.’ Sky’s Book Corner

‘Me Without You is the
beautiful, moving story of Callum and Lilah and they turned me into a complete emotional wreck. I loved the banter and the chemistry between them both right from the first, brilliant chapter and then as the book went on, it warmed and broke my heart all at the same time… It’s an incredible novel. Reviewed the Book

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that made me ‘ugly cry.’ You know what I mean… big, fat tears rolling down your cheeks leaving you with eyes so puffy you look like you’ve had an allergic reaction. Think Claire Danes in… well… pretty much any role she’s ever been in. Kelly Rimmer’s Me Without You certainly broke that dry spell… Told in alternating points of view from Lilah and Callum, Me Without You is a heartbreaker of a book that has great characters and a gut-wrenching ending that left me feeling a weird mix of bereft and yet hopeful.’ 4/5 JudgingCovers

‘There's not much I can say without giving the story away, other than
how much I adore Callum and Lilah. Their love story is so genuine and heartfelt… This book is beautifully written, and I found myself highlighting like crazy throughout. I highly recommend this book, but I must warn you, it's one that will make you cry.’ 4.5/5 Mrs Leif’s Blog

Surprisingly good for my first step into the romance genre
4 out of 5 stars
Surprisingly good for my first step into the romance genre
This was my first [very wary] step into the romance/love genre. Obviously I’ve read books where there has been some degree of a romance story within it, but never before have I read the book where the love story was the focus. I have to be honest, I was dubious for the reasons below. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get into this book at all, I tend to go for books with some degree of fantasy in them, and a little more action than your average love story will provide, but I got it for free on my kindle so I decided why not (I was also thinking of buying ‘Me Before You’ so was good to see before spending any money whether the romance genre was for me). I really [and surprisingly] enjoyed this book, it was well written and at the necessary times it was utterly heart-wrenching. I took a lot of strength to maintain my composure near the end, there was a high risk of hysterical crying, but as I was in the same room as my other half and would rather he didn’t think I was having a breakdown, I managed to strategically hold my book so as to block my face from his view, as well as keep my sobbing as quiet as possible! The writing created images in my mind, the description helped to almost create a movie playing before my eyes as I read, and the characters were very well formed – I have an exact idea of how everything in this story looked, from the characters to the vegetable garden they tended. I can’t fault the writing at all, Kelly Rimmer certainly knows what she’s doing to create the right images and feelings in her writing. Me Without You is a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes I was left wanting to slap the characters, other times I wanted nothing more than to hug them! However I can’t help but feel that something was missing – I just couldn’t fully connect to them, but can’t put my finger on what it was! Maybe it was the whole ‘whirlwind romance’ thing, and I’m a cynic! Or maybe I just struggled to relate to them as they’re so different from me! Lilah’s journal entries interspersed between the writing from Callum’s narrative was effective at weaving a subtle mystery throughout the story, as Lilah’s entries always talk of some unknown difficulty, and I do think it was that which kept me glued to the story! I particularly enjoyed Lilah’s later entries, for ‘spoilerific’ reasons that I won’t go into! Overall this book was a huge emotional read, don’t read it if you’re already feeling fragile or have recently gone through a breakup! The writing was spot on, there was just something missing for me, where I felt like the characters were lacking a little. However, for my first tiny step into the romance genre, I am pretty pleased!

I am an avid reader to the extent of reading 3-4 books per week. It is unlikely for me to sleep well if I do not read before sleeping, and usually during work lunch hours, as well as any spare time grabbed on train travel, or in between events. Therefore, at the extent of this amount of reading, it is rare that a book will move me as much as Me Without You did. Since purchasing a Kindle, it is far easier to expand exploring through new authors that I may not have both a physical copy of before, and of course - fr always having the option of reading something when on the go.

Lilah & Callum's story unweaves right from that first meeting on board the ferry. Having lived in Sydney myself, and made trips to Manly, the descriptions of scenery were kept exquisite and only served to make me want to return as soon as I could - not looking at all likely in the near future unfortunately.

Little hints are dropped all through the storyline as to what's to come, but you're never sure - I had her "secret" 100% and had no idea the blow that was to drop on me as I became more and more involved. Lilah is quirky, particular, passionate and difficult to commit to anything. Callum, on the other hand, you instantly see as someone who needs to take a step back from the madness of the rat race, and find someone who'll drag him out of his comfort zone - Lilah does just that, disconcertingly for him.

Their story is made up of love, anger, sadness, joy, exploration, friendship, heartbreak and family. An incredible tale woven skillfully by Kelly Rimmer - I'll certainly be exploring other reading options of hers, if she has more books written. Also, few, so few books make me cry - I was openly in tears at the end of this one. Could not recommend more - five stars for this one!

From the very beginning of this novel, as the title suggests, there is a kind of tragic inevitability about this story. However this is not a tale which will bring you down by any means, it is a pure love story, one that will leave you with a warm, if somewhat emotional feeling at the end. If of a certain age, where you have still yet to find that magical ideal of true love, then it may well inspire as well.

The characters of Lilah and Callum are very well observed and in this tale of opposites attract, every ounce of their lives, from their jobs to the dsecriptions of their apartments, shows you why they should not work and richly enhances the whole reasons why they do. The dialogue is very compelling and sympathetic and I found myself truly feeling the emotions at the end even losing a few tears in the process. If you are a crier, I would recommend a box of tissues kept nearby.

Kelly Rimmer has taken a difficult subject, one which is sadly all too real, and made if fun, accessible, emotional and given it a true voice. Well worth a read

I don't often leave reviews for books I have read but for Me Without You I just had to. This has to have been one the most beautifully written books I have read in a very long time. I have laughed with Callum and Lilah and I have grieved for Callum. I have understood why Lilah acted and spoke of life the way she did. I have been totally absorbed in feeling, something that a book hasn't done for me in a long long time. I read a lot and this book has just got to be one of the most thought provoking one I have read in a long while. There is humour, love, joy and tragedy intermixed throughout.
It certainly has made me realise that one must live for the moment and not put off things for other times. I would say to anyone looking at this review, if you never read another book do please make sure you read this one. You will not be sorry. Now I go to find any other books by this author who has such a strong understanding of life and people. Thank You Kelly Rimmer

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the story and the characters. However, I felt that the first two thirds of the book were way too slow and drawn out, despite the fact that I like Kelly Rimmer’s writing style. We know from very early on in the story that Lilah, one of the two main characters, is in remission from a serious illness, and the story of her relationship with Callum is building up to her either telling him or falling ill again, which happens around 69% of the way through the book. From this point onwards, I really liked the story, even though it was a bit of a tear jerker. Although it was necessary to build up the development of their relationship, I just felt that this took too long and could have been achieved in less time, with far less mundane detail. I’m not one for reading straightforward love stories, and even though the reader knows there’s something bad coming, the first part of the book reads far too much like ordinary chick lit. Had I known it would take so long to get to the point, I probably would have given up on it, as it was just far too repetitive. We get it, she's fallen in love with someone when she'd always told herself she wouldn't/couldn't be in a relationship! On the whole, a great idea, very well-written, but I felt it needed to be structured differently to really get an excellent rating from me.

I really enjoyed the book and it made me cry ALOT. To those who are saying Me Before You was better,I do agree,it was, however,to those who are saying it's terrible,IMO it still was very good.Yes it is predictable and you know there will not be a happy ending but it still made a good read(for me anyway). The main character,Lilah, was quite annoying but once the story unfolds I did feel sorry for her.Callum,on the other hand was very likeable and just an all round decent guy.Not giving it 5 stars as I'm a sucker for happy endings and I wished it wasn't HD that she had and had some other curable disease but that's life.Lastly regarding the title I don't know why the author decided on such a similar title to Jojo Moyes book(Me Before You)especially as the subject matter was also very similar, there was no need.Surely she could've thought of something else??

A story of love in the face of adversity which examines the questions of dedication and trust in a relationship and sheds light on an affliction that is perhaps not well known to the public at large. I had heard of it but knew nothing about it. Good characterization involves the reader in the characters' lives and the narrative structure is such that you cannot put it down. It had me in bits, but I couldn't stop reading.

    What a wonderful story!
Deeply emotional, extremely moving, but never cheesy, extremely real and sad, but with a not so subtle joy for life underlining the devastating circumstances. Like Moyes' Me Before You, Nicholls' One Day, and the more recent Rowan Coleman's The Memory Book this is a book about love and life, and not about illness and evil fate.
It's extremely well written, and words just flow in a stream of emotions, from the character's heart to the reader.
I loved it, and I can definitely say it will be in my top ten best reads for 2016.
I will definitely read more by this fantastic author.

This book grabbed my attention as soon as I began to read, and developed a strong relationship between me and the two characters. The author moved between them with finesse and compassion, and I fell in love with them, mourned with them, and saw life through their eyes. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance with a dab of sorrow.
