Though I now live in Kelso in the Scottish Borders, I was born and brought up on Tyneside; the setting for my last four novels. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie, as the saying goes.

Though I only began writing in 2001, many of my short stories and articles have been published in national magazines here in the UK. But then I felt the urge to move on and write something with a little more grit.

My first novel, The Trojan Project, is an all-action thriller. During the writing process, I felt I was on the ride of my life, as I added so many spine-chilling incidents. I was determined to grab the readers' attention from the very beginning and give them the roller-coaster read of their lives.

Since then, I turned to writing women's fiction. Divorcees.Biz, a novel of fun and romance, shortly followed by, Only Twelve Days, a heart-warming romance.

However, after deciding to turn my hand to writing a series of cozy murder mysteries, I chose my hometown as the setting. Murder on Tyneside - Agnes Lockwood Mysteries Book 1, was released in December 2016, with Agnes as the new sleuth on Tyneside. Death on Tyneside (Book 2) came next followed by Vengeance on Tyneside (Book 3). A Mystery on Tyneside (Book 4) was published in October 2020.

Hopefully, there will be a Book 5 in the series. How could I possibly let Agnes Lockwood down, when she has given me so much fun - she is part of me now.

The Trojan Project by Eileen Thornton is a terrific thriller that had me gasping for breath. The author has done an outstanding job creating one of the best conspiracy thrillers I have ever read. It is The X-Files multiplied by a million. The quality of the writing is superb, the pace is perfect and the story is so believable and well laid out.
Set in the north of England farming community and London, The Trojan Project grabs the reader from page one with an unnatural disaster so terrifying it actually gave me nightmares. This is a superlative "What If" scenario of the highest order that never relents throughout and this reader was simply swept away by the author's brilliance at upping the ante with each chapter.
Sarah and her children survive the disaster but she is shocked to discover her whole community dead or dying of horrific injuries that defy logic and understanding. She goes for help and this is where the thrills race off at breakneck speed as something far more evil arrives in her small town. Sarah is beside herself not knowing what has happened to her husband Pete and is desperate to find him, but sinister forces are at work to stop her at every turn. And there are so many twists and turns to keep avid readers of thrillers gripping this book with white knuckles.
So without a doubt this FIVE STAR conspiracy thriller is very highly recommended and a must read for all lovers of conspiracies.

A haunting beginning, when a huge ball of green light rose from behind the Cheviot hills. Sarah fears that it might be extra-terrestrial but before she can form an opinion, it has vanished. What could it be? And where was her husband Pete? He should have returned to the farm with the children by now.

By next morning, she is distraught and drives out to find Pete. But instead, she finds somebody she knows, but he's near death. This traumatic confrontation almost tips her into hysteria but for the sake of her children she pulls herself together and goes into nearby Wooler. Police Constable Andy Simmonds doesn't quite believe her - until a group of heavy-handed army bods start looking for Sarah by name. It strikes Andy as being a little suspicious and, quick-wittedly, he spirits Sarah and her children away.

The questions start to pile up. And the answers, when they arrive, are not going to be pleasant for Sarah. Why is the military after her? Why were the phones and radios not functioning? The truth lies in the Trojan Project - but what is it? And who is involved? Is it a government conspiracy?

As often happens, the seeds of a disaster in the present can be found in the past. Sarah's past.

These are ordinary people thrust into a terrifyingly extraordinary situation. Sarah and Andy are believable characters, incapable of understanding what has happened. But they're also resourceful and determined heroes. Sarah must get her children to safety with her parents in London. Only then could she come back up north to search for her husband. But she has reckoned without the Big Brother powers of the State...

An enjoyable tale, well told, with a moral too.

THE TROJAN PROJECT BY EILEEN THORNTON

When I read the first few pages I was hooked. It was scary to try and imagine what was going on when Sarah sees the blinding light. My imagination was in overtime here!

Sarah had been looking out for her husband (a farmer) who should have been home ages ago. After all he was only in the top field checking on some sheep. Why hadn't he come home yet, what could have happened? The events that follow as Sarah tries to find out where her husband is are traumatic to say the least, especially when she discovers Dave, one of the farmhands, lying in the road. What was wrong with Dave? Sarah is horrified. How can this be happening and what has really happened to Pete, her husband?

As Sarah sets out to find answers it leads to a terrifying journey with her children to try to get to London. Thank goodness she has the help of the young policeman.

While Sarah is trying to get to her father, Sir Charles Hammond an eminent government scientist, the story switches to London. What has happened with the Trojan Project he had been working on?

The tension builds as we follow Sarah desperately trying to avoid the military and reach London, at the same time as, unknown to Sarah, Pete and Josh who are trying to catch up with her. What happens when they all reach their destination?

I will leave the reader to discover the answers themselves.

This is a fast paced, intriguing thriller and I wanted to keep turning the pages.

Thank you Eileen Thornton for a brilliant read which is fully deserving of five stars.

The basis of this tale is a very insightful one, given the times that we live in & the release of a deadly chemical weapon in the Northumbrian countryside is a promising storyline. The author has created bold characters and sets the scene perfectly, weaving her way in and out of chapters with practised expertise. However, a predictable villain & heavy dialogue found me floundering towards the end. Saying that, I enjoyed the author's style & have already purchased one of her murder mystery books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm appalled at some of the bad reviews!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 December 2017
I got here to write my five-star review and am appalled at the bad reviews. I don't recall noticing the bad ones when I was here before. There are many good reviews, but the few bad ones are too many. This is one of the best books I've read the past couple years and to see all the bad reviews, I'm shocked. I enjoyed the book very much. When you choose whether or not to read this book, remember there are bad readers too. I don't think I'm one of them. When I say this book is worth five stars, anyone else who reads it should give it at least four stars...no less...I don't care how good or bad a reader you are. The story is powerful and deserves only a good review.

Now, with that said, I first saw the cover of this book last year and knew that I would read it one day. I had no idea what the Trojan Project was or how good the story might be, only that I was drawn to the cover. Over the past months, I learned more about the author and read a couple of the reviews. I purchased the book and it sat on my TBR list for quite a while.

Finally, the book came up to read. I immediately was drawn into the story from the first page. Page after page I read and did not want to put the book down, but I had no choice. The story did not escape my memory and I was drawn back again and again to finish the book. I had to know what would happen. I read the book from cover to cover in a week, which is very fast for me. That alone should attest to the powerful nature of the story.

The story is suspenseful and the characters are described well as were their surroundings. I felt I knew all the main characters. As Sara, Andy, and the kids made a mad dash to London, I felt as if I were there with them. I found myself tense with every close call. And Pete and Josh? They were quite lucky. I won’t spoil it for you. You’ll need to read it for yourself.

This story is easy to read and hard to put down. I am pleased to give the story five stars and I highly recommend it to anyone, young and old, man or woman alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE STORY
Reviewed in the United States on 28 June 2014
Anxiously waiting for her husband to come home one evening, Sarah witnesses a strange event, a big glowing green ball of light and then a green mist rolling across the valley below her home. In the morning, when her husband still hasn’t returned, Sarah heads down to the valley searching for her husband. What she finds is horrific and puts her on the run for her life. Where is her husband? Who is behind the event?
As stated in some prior reviews, the plot is pretty thin. There are no surprises or plot twists. But because of the suspenseful writing and drama, I found the story engaging enough that I was drawn along until the end. The best part was in the cave with Pete and Josh while they tried to find their way out by following the sheep.
And with the mixture of an abundance of rich characters throughout the story, it kept the reading fresh. We all know someone who talks endlessly about nothing. Sigh!! I thought the end was fitting with Colin the lorry driver. He, who never has an adventure.
It’s also terrifying to think there might be a country with this type of weapon in their arsenal. Shudder!!
And here is what takes away from the story. There’s a mannerism that Thornton uses excessively as a sign of frustration or anger. It became annoying. I can see one person doing it as a habit, but not every character. It’s the slamming of fists or hands on desks, tables and steering wheels. I also found a handful of proofreading errors.
I recommend this book for a suspenseful romp through the English countryside and parts of London. I give my 4 feathers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ein Kitsch-Roman, 'getarnt' als Politthriller? Auch das gibt’s – leider!
Reviewed in Germany on 6 June 2017

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary!
Reviewed in the United States on 29 August 2009
'A strange light appears in the night sky above the Cherviots. A mist descends, shrouding the hills and valleys. Is it a natural phenomenon or something more sinister?'

Sarah had planned to be at a friends house for the night and her two daughters were to stay with a neighbor until her husband Pete returned to pick them up. He and three of his field workers had gone up to Top Meadow to check on Pete's sheep herd. But, unknown to Pete, his daughter Jose came down with a sore throat and Sarah decided to stay home with her children.

Sarah had tried to call Pete to tell him that she was with the children but couldn't get through. The only sound coming through her cell phone was static. Apparently the hills were blocking the signal. Sarah wasn't that concerned knowing that Laura would tell Pete that the kids were with her at home. But as the hours passed, Sarah started to worry about Pete absence. It was getting late and he always called when knew he would be delayed. As she stood outside their home watching for his headlights to come up the road, she noticed a strange light hovering over the valley. As the light died out a green mist rolled in. Fear rose in Sarah as she stood watching. Everything was so still and quiet. Nothing was moving, not even the cows in the field. As Sarah's fears increased she went in to check on her sleeping daughters. They had slept through the whole phenomenon but to ease some of her worry and fear she decided to spend the night in their room. Surely, by the time morning came, Pete would be in their own room sound asleep.

The next morning Pete was still missing. Sarah phoned her friends and neighbor in hopes that someone would know something about, not just Pete, but also the lights from the night before. But her calls were unanswered. In hopes of finding someone to ease her fears for Pete, she loads the girls into her car and headed down to the valley. She hadn't gone far when she runs across Dave. Dave had been with Pete the day before and informs her that Pete, as well as everyone else from the valley, is dead. While telling her his story, Sarah started noticing that his flesh was melting from his body. His dying words to her is a warning to not touch anything nor anyone.

In Sarah's attempt to find someone to help her and explain what has happened she drives to the next town to speak with the police there. Andy, the young constable on duty, actually believes she has lost her mind as she describes what she has seen. But when his superior comes in and hears about the death of Dave, who is one of his best friends, he heads to the valley to check it out for himself. As Sarah and Andy wait for his return, the military show up with full protective suits and weapons. And when they asked for Sarah by name, something tells Andy that he should take Sarah's story seriously. He also fears for her safety with these men and tells the Sergeant that Sarah had gone back to her home and that the woman and children there with him are his own wife and kids. As the military unit leaves, he convinces Sarah that their life in in danger and they must leave immediately before they come back.

Follow Sarah and Andy as they are chased by the military all the way to London. See what happens when two unexpected people show up in London after surviving the light and mist. And find out exactly what The Trojan Project really is, who created it and why.

When I was a child, my family moved to Utah. I remember two nights that a neighbor came to warn us of the lights in the sky. The first night she knocked on our door around midnight. She was yelling and crying, trying to tell us there was a burning ball of light in the sky. The next night she came to tell us there was a burning rod of fire in the sky. Both nights we all went outside to see these lights for ourselves. And both nights we saw exactly what she saw. I can remember being scared but I couldn't take my eyes off the lights as they moved across the sky. Later we were told the lights were experimental air crafts being tested by the military. I never really believed that story, but after reading The Trojan Project, I think I believe it now .

Great book. It will make you stop and wonder what really goes on behind our backs and how much is covered up forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and thrilling!
Reviewed in the United States on 17 August 2020
    (Actual rating: 4.5)

Having received this book during a free giveaway, I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting into, but I was instantly drawn into the plot and the characters. Set in a small town in England, we get to know Sarah, a housewife who witnesses something that she shouldn't have and finds herself and her children in danger because of it.

For the sake of spoilers, I can't say much else about the plot, but it was unique and thrilling! I have never read anything like this before, and I had a hard time putting it down. My only small complaint was that one of the most exciting events happened so near the start of the book that I felt a bit of a letdown as we made our way to the ending. I still loved every moment of it, but starting with such a bang made it difficult for the climax of the book to impact me as much.

Still I loved this book. The characters were easily lovable and I was rooting for them the whole time. The villain, although for me a bit too evil, was an interesting antagonist as well, and I was curious to find out more about everyone as the book went on.

I recommend this story to any fans of thrillers or mysteries. It was a great read and I would definitely pick up another book by this author.
