Having read If Tomorrow Comes I was intrigued by how the sequel would compare, and I have to say that Tilly Bagshawe has come up with a most ingenious plot that Sidney Sheldon would have liked. Very cleverly put together and how the sins of the past come back to haunt us. In this, it picks up where it finished with Tracy and Jeff wanting to settle down. Of course nothing ever goes to plan as an old nemesis rears its ugly head that pulls Tracy back in while fighting for her life. A very compulsive read.

When an original, thoroughly enjoyable story is reworked in a sequel, there's always the split thought process; "yes please! Give me it now."...; and "I wonder if it will spoil or taint the memory of the original?"
We need not worry. Tilly Bagshawe has taken Sheldon's work and kept it true to the tone of the original, with small updates to reflect the time, (move phone age, etc) In a couple of places I felt the narrative was slightly forced and some of the scenes moved quickly - these would be the montage scenes in a movie version! But overall I was pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed the twist, in taking a supporting character from book 1, and really developing him into the complex, changed character he'd become. The suspense at the end when we see a major player 'check out', followed by a quite brilliantly written twist, is a welcome turn and really sets up a third book. Thank you Tilly, and thank you Sidney!

This book continues where ‘If Tomorrow Comes’ left off, but it quickly becomes apparent from the start that this isn’t a Sidney Sheldon novel.

The original book was written and the events occurred 30 or so years ago, but now the story has been brought bang up to date in the current day, and our hero and heroine are now fully equipped with mobile phones and internet technology. The continuity is therefore lost a bit, because to Sidney Sheldon fans (and he has a very strong following) this just isn’t his style of writing. This would have been perfectly fine if Ms Bagshaw was writing under her own name, but she’s writing as Sidney Sheldon, his name appears at the top of the cover and her own name is added almost as an afterthought in small letters at the bottom. I therefore feel Ms Bagshaw is misleading readers into believing this is a book written by the great master.

On the plus side, as far as the story goes, it was quick paced and kept me awake at night turning the pages to find out what happened next. If it was a standalone novel and didn’t have Sidney Sheldon’s name on it, it would have been worthy of at least 4 stars. Unfortunately though, towards the end, it became highly unbelievable in places. While Mr Sheldon could get away with highly unlikely plots 30 years ago, readers today expect more realism.

Spoiler Alert: For instance, what are the chances of a woman with virtually no experience of guns being able to lay her hands on a gun – in the time it takes to pop into the supermarket for a loaf of bread – which disassembles to resemble a bunch of lipsticks so she is able to smuggle it in her luggage through the airport scanner and out of the country! Also, what are the chances of a team of south-east European ambulance paramedics working on a patient talking amongst themselves in English!

There is a huge amount of reference to the storyline in the original book, so it would not really be necessary to read If Tomorrow Comes first.

Great to have a sequel of Tracy, as you always wonder what her life was like after all the excitement of these heists she and Jeff got involved in, and then meeting Max Pierpont! (out of the blue) I am looking forward to "Reckless" the last in the trilogy. (wonder if Tracy and Jeff do get it together in the end. I think that Tilly Bagshawe has done a good job, where Sidney Sheldon left off. Writes very much in his style. A good read

I’ve waited years for a sequel to one of my favorite books. This did not disappoint at all. It was just as gripping as the first. I love books that you can’t wait to get back to read. I only wish it was longer. I completely enjoyed it. I didn’t know there was a sequel. I was re-reading “if tomorrow comes” and saw the excerpt at the end. A wonderful surprise! I hope there will be more!
