On The Rocks (The Last Call Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Five years ago, Gabby Ward drunkenly threw herself at her best friend’s brother, only to have her young heart crushed. Hunter is back but Gabby is content to stay far away from him and his dangerously charming ways.
Gabby’s well-schemed plans to ignore Hunter go up in flames when he presents her an offer she simply can’t refuse. Working together day in and day out proves problematic for two reasons—Gabby realizes her feelings for Hunter are still very much alive, while Hunter struggles to break through to Gabby’s cold heart. What starts out as a mutual business arrangement soon turns into a passion that neither can deny.
But when the pro surfing tour comes knocking and Hunter has a chance to reclaim his former glory, hard choices lie ahead for both of them.
Choices that could destroy what they have built or take them further than they could ever dare to hope in their second chance at romance.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 January 2016Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseGabby has been in love with Hunter for years. However, he shattered her hopes and heart when he rejected her after one kiss when she was eighteen. Her resulting animosity has governed their interactions for the following five years. Now, he is back in town for good and seeing her with new eyes.
Hunter is a world class surfer and his sister is Gabby’s best friend. He’s back in town, running the Last Call bar, and has his sights firmly set on Gabby.
This was a fab, easy read! Full of loaded moments, sexy times, and a colourful cast of characters.
I’m so looking forward to reading the rest of the novels in this series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2015Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseExcellent start to a series about a group of friends. This is Hunter and Gabby' s story. To summarise, Hunter is a pro surfer who retired early to return home and be there for his twin brother, Brody, when he is released from prison. Hunter has bought a new business- an old beach bar that he is revamping. Gabby is a constructor, having inherited her Dad's business when he died. Gabby loved Hunter but he squashed her heart and feelings when she was 18. Then he left. Now, he's back. Gabby has grown up. Hunter finds himself drawn to her...and so our story begins.
Really good first book in the series. Interesting and likeable characters. Loved Casey, Savannah and Alyssa. Hated Sasha. Have downloaded the next 3 books already. Fair to say, I'm Hooked!!
Recommend over 18's due to sexual content and swearing.
No cliffhanger. Leads nicely onto Brody's story.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI believe this is the first book in the Last Call Series and features Gabby who has had a crush on her best friends surfer brother Hunter for years; however he knocked her back when she was 18 years old, but now he's back in town after 5 years and she's trying and failing to stay out of his way.
An ok read but it was quite predictable and I'm afraid I didn't really connect with any of the characters very much, in fact I struggled to finish the book as I was a bit bored. If you like a quiet gentle read this is it, but no heart pounding to be found here and don't think I'll be reading anymore in the series, shame just think maybe it was a bit too young adult for me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2014Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThis is one of my favourite authors and this book the start to her new "last call series" is a good one, Hunter the ex pro surfer back in town to take over a bar and look out for his twin brother Brody (just out of prison), he re- connects with friends and family and especially Gabby the girl he hasn't quite forgotten but for her he's the guy her broke her heart when she was 18. The story develops at a nice pace, not rushed, this author is very good at setting the scene, writing snappy dialogue and blimey she can write the steamy stuff too!. I really liked Hunter, straight forward not an arrogant alpha but more knight in shining armour vibe, he protects who he loves, nice.
what's also great is that the secondary characters get a good mention too, you get to hear about them which really keeps you invested in the story, I'm also glad to say Brody's is up next and I'm looking forward to reading his story, loads of angst I fear, yay!

Can’t wait to read Brody’s story
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2015Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseGabby has had a crush on Hunter, her best friends brother for a long time, one night they share the most amazing kiss.. But Hunter tells her it was a mistake and it breaks her heart... When he leaves to follow his dream of surfing, Gabby erects a wall around her heart.. Five years on and Hunter is back and he wants Gabby.. She tries to keep her feeling locked away, but he's slowly breaking down her walls.. This is the first book I have read from Sawyer Bennett and I loved every bit of it!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 July 2019Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI'm not a sheep (I don't follow the herd) so decided to read 'On the rocks' and form my own opinion. I'm so glad that I did. It's not heart stoppingly intense but is a very well written love story with lots of moments throughout which kept me turning the pages.
With regard to the current top review, it is very misleading. Conversations are had, feelings are portrayed well and explanations are believable and understandable for why the ex stays at the house and for past events.
I enjoyed this book and hope others won't dismiss it based on that reviewer's strangely harsh opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sawyer’s work has me hunting for more and I know I will revisit them.
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseOn Sawyer Bennett, can you write no wrong? I have a bit of a competition with my husband who challenged me to read my to be read pile by the end of the year, that total number of books was 140 (at the time) and I was bearing down on book number 100. Which book would I choose?
Reading Sawyer’s work to me is like curling up with your favourite blanket. It’s inviting, it’s cosy and it’s a little slice of heaven. I know her work is reliable to be thoroughly enjoyable and I can answer my own question. No – to me – she can’t write any wrong.
The characters are loveable and quickly feel like old friends, the underlying drama is believable and the romance makes my heart sing. I laugh out loud and I get teary when the characters struggle. She has the gift of stringing a beautiful story along to satisfy my needs when delving into a story. There are others in this field that I have read and I equate them to white bread. Yummy at the time but don’t sustain me. Sawyer’s work has me hunting for more and I know I will revisit them.
My only request – paperback! I need these on my shelves. I need to buy them and gift them to my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.75 Stars for On the Rocks
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseOn the Rocks is the first in the new Last Call series from Sawyer Bennett. Set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the story centers on Gabby Ward and Hunter Markham. Gabby and Hunter have known one another their whole lives as Hunter is the older brother of Gabby’s best friend Casey and the focus of most of her fantasies. Hunter has been gone for most of the past 10yrs as a professional surfer but now he’s back, has opened The Last Call Bar & Grill and Gabby has to convince him to give her a chance to remodel the bar while she convinces herself she hates him. Yeah one of these things is not gonna happen and what ensues is a lot like riding waves, full of twists, swells and a few wipeouts before you can find your own nirvana.
This is a story of second chances. For Gabby it’s a second chance at what she always wanted and was afraid she’d never get. For Hunter it’s a second chance to get what he wanted but was too scared before to try. It’s the story of finding what really makes you happy and believing that you deserve it. How many of us wish we could have that; have that second chance even if it’s scary as hell?!
Gabby feels like the only way she has been able to survive the devastation that was Hunter Markham is to be a total bitch to him at every turn. I think this both freaks Hunter out and amuses him, but he’s determined to get her to forgive him for being an idiot and hurting her so badly when they were kids. He finally sees her as the beautiful woman she is and can admit “she’s under my skin; and I sure as hell am not looking at her as a little sister anymore”. Gabby however is scared. Scared that if Hunter doesn’t give her the shot at completing his remodel, her dream of keeping her father’s construction business alive will die and scared that Hunter will devastate her once again. And he shocks her from the moment she shares her bid for the job, kissing the hell out of her and basically telling her that he wants her; which pisses Gabby off but Hunter isn’t going to let her go that easily. He tells her “we are going to happen no matter what. . .”
What starts off as two people deciding to just see where the obvious attraction they share leads (while not telling anyone) it begins to spiral into more, and becomes a balance of Hunter trying to convince Gabby he’s in this for real and Gabby trying to convince herself that she’s not going to be left once again with a shattered heart. One thing is for sure Hunter and Gabby have amazing chemistry! In many ways I liked this story because Hunter was so sure of himself. Once he realized that what he felt for Gabby was the real deal, it was all about him trying to help her see it and believe not only in herself but in them having a future. I loved Hunter!! He was so self-assured and supportive of not only his family, his friends but especially Gabby. I loved that he recognized that she always put others ahead of herself and he wanted her to live her own dreams. Seriously if she didn’t wake up and take this chance with him I wanted to because he’s that amazing in my opinion!
This is going to be a great series! I can’t wait for the next book that will be Brody and Alyssa’s story, because with all the tension between the two you know there is a great story waiting!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Romance!
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseWhat a sweet start for a new series from Sawyer Bennett. It was a light and absolutely enjoyable read, and I got caught up in the story right away.
Retired surfer Hunter Markham and constructor Gabby Ward sneaked their way easily into my heart. They were adorable. Confident and gorgeous Hunter was such a sweetheart. And Gabby? A sweet, funny and loyal character, that I would love to have as a friend. And they became a great couple – not only because of the steamy bedroom scenes, which were really hot. But their chemistry was just lovely.
I was grateful the story did without unreasonable drama. It was a lovely romance you can enjoy on a nice summer day. This book can be read as a standalone, but I will definitely read “Make It A Double”, the next installment in this series, which will be about Hunter's twin brother Brody, though I don't expect that one to be as light and carefree as “On The Rocks”.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good reading
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI liked the characters , and the background stories for each one of them, although there was a moment when I wanted to slap some sense into the FMC, but for my peace of mind it was happily resolved. I can’t wait for reading the next one in the series.
