- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2014Really great info, could be a little longer
To put it briefly, this book has completely positively changed my perspective (and technique) when it comes to running in more ways than one.
Although I was actually recommended this book by a very experienced athletic friend of mine along with 2 other similar reads, I can definitely say that this is the best one by a long shot. Admittedly, I haven't had the chance to try what I've learned as much as I'd like since I first picked up the book, but I have noticed a significant difference already, especially when it comes to being able to run further than before and I'm really looking forward to seeing more results as I continue with it. One particular part of the book that really stood out to me was the technique tip on how to increase stride length; the advice, stretches, and the pictures are all laid out in a really easy to understand and practical way.
In summary, 'How You Can Run Faster Effortlessly' is an overall well-rounded and great book, definitely worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2023The book is practical, clearly written and offers great advice with a range of practical routines and exercises to help individuals to improve their running
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 December 2014This book does contain some useful information and is is well written. it needs more contents. And the exercises could be more detailed. Worth a read for any runner
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2014This is a great book on how to improve your running technique; it's full of tips to make your running more efficient and feel easier. Everything is backed up with helpful diagrams and pictures to illustrate WHY it's better to raise your knees or run on the right part of your foot. I really liked the sections that have stretches and exercises to do that help you with specific running problems, they are well described and pictured too.
Even if you don't run yourself, I think this would make a great gift for the budding runner in your life, it really inspired me to want to read more on the technical aspects of the sport.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2016I gave it 2 stars because I actually got it for free. Information is pretty basic, I suppose for beginner runners it might have some relevant information but it's pretty basic.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 May 2015For the experienced runner there is nothing new or revolutionary to try here. However it can be used as a refresher if you have picked up bad habits in running. Who this book is good for is those new to running or thinking of giving it a go. It contains easy to follow instructions on performance, stability and stretching etc. It is to the point and straight forward which will hopefully inspire the novice runner to get out there and get running.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2021I wasn't sure I'd take anything from reading this book, but as a relatively new runner some of the information is great. I've been running around 6 months now, and my progress has been good, but I'm sure there's room for improvement. The advice is great and it's something I'll take with me and try to implement in my future attempts!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2014I thought this would be a book that would take my running to another level, but I was sorely disappointed. I run marathons every week, as part of ultramarathon training, and would like to run some longer distances faster with comparable effort. This book is NOT the answer. Its a compilation of second hand information that I could have written if I had the mind to do it. The "secrets to run like the Kenyans" is utter nonsense - go read "Running Like the Kenyans" or watch a host of documentaries that are available on thre net, and you'll get what this book gives you in the first five minutes. The section on taking your weight off your heels and running on your forefoot is vague and again, secondhand - read Pose Running, or even better, Chi Running by Danny Dryer and you'll have a much clearer picture of how to do this.
All in all a waste of money - I'm going back to Chi Running and working on my form focuses, that will get me there, this book certainly wont!

5.0 out of 5 stars Conocimiento condensado
Un buen libro, con mucho conocimiento condensado y bien explicado.
Para cada concepto de técnica explica ejercicios que te ayudarán a identificar la sensación que tienes que notar durante la carrera para saber que lo estás haciendo bien.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly endorse this book!
I was 15 when I starting distance running in 1969. Unfortunately my high school coach was not a runner, and had no understanding of the finer, more subtle technical points necessary to excel @distance running. Therefore -> it was up to me to discover the simple, workable aspects that fostered my success and love for the sport. What I discovered is remarkablY similar to that which the author describes. The book is concise (a fast read), yet expresses a depth of understanding,. Adam D’ Alessandro describes the basics in simple and easily understandable terms, different from conventional running literature that says: ‘Run faster, Train harder’. By the way -> I successfully completed my 26-mile marathon using Bob Glover’s unconventional marathon training formula not based on simply increasing training mileage (The Competitive Runner’s Handbook). Using knowledge similar to what D’Alessandro has articulated, I easily surpassed my goal finishing in record time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Good quick read for the general runner, important form technique and stretches as well. Basic nutritional information for all levels.

3.0 out of 5 stars are women included?
The information seems good but he kept referring to guys, I.e. “most guys can lessen the number of runs instead of stopping altogether” or something to that effect. Either he is trying to be simplistic with his language or he is ignoring women runners all together. I found this off putting. Is he only recommending these techniques for men?

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good advice
This is a short book, so the price is right.
That said, even if you only take two bits of advice from this book, you’re going to notice improvements in your speed. I struggled just getting around the block before, and after reading part of this book, I extended my run and went through additional parts of my neighborhood at a very high clip. I’m trying to train for another marathon, and I think the difference in speed this book made will really help me get there.
Great advice, especially if you’re just starting out.
