The Bell Hanger (The Foragers Book 1) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

Join Perry in his first adventure as he leaves the safety of the Attic to explore the farthest reaches of the Outer House. He dreams of becoming the youngest Forager ever and retrieve a Golden Flake, but when things don’t go quite to plan, Perry soon learns that sometimes it is up to you to make things right.

Suitable for 8+ (Key Stage 2)

"His nose fizzed and twitched and prickled with the array of scents that flowed into his nostrils. There were golden flakes, smelling of nuts and sugar, the meaty smells of gravy, the prickly sharp smells of spices and the green garden smells of herbs, but the scent that had him straining to push ever more whiskers through that tiny little hole was the smell of cheese. Cheese, the bane and delight of mice! They love it more than a child loves chocolate, more than a bear loves honey and more than you love custard or chocolate milkshakes or sweets or... well you get the picture.
That first tantalizing smell, that first whiff of ripe smelly cheese, well that was the start of it. Perhaps if those tantalizing smells hadn’t included the intoxicating aroma of a truly pungent cheese then perhaps things may have turned out differently. It wasn’t too late. He could have turned around and climbed back up the cable, snuck back through the window and crept back into bed and, silently turning off the light, slept until it was time to wake. This is what he ought to have done, but he didn’t."

I got this to read to my 5 year old boy. My first kindle purchase and I am glad. A great book that is perfect for moving a young one on to chapter books. I read him a chapter a night and each night he asked for his "grown up book". I enjoyed it too!

Fantastic read, more illustrations would be fantastic, include more illustrations for the next issue. My daughter loved the cover & I think she would have loved to have seen more pictures - the children really like a picture to look at.

Lovely little book with a big adventure story. Great to read to kids or for children to read themselves. The language and style of writing makes it easy to put yourself in Perry's paws and see the world through his eyes.

My son loves this book! He is dyslexic and very few books hold his interest. This book captured his imagination and I would definitely recommend it.
