4.5 out of 5 stars 3,996 ratings

At seventeen years old, Mattie Hathaway has survived her mother attempting to kill her, multiple foster homes, and a serial killer. Oh, and she sees ghosts on a regular basis too. You’d think Fate would give her a break right? Umm…nope, not Mattie.

Dan Richards is the only person in the entire world Mattie trusts, but then the boy goes and breaks her heart. Mattie does what she does best, she runs and lands herself slap in the middle of a haunted house full of ghosts turned vengeful that want Mattie to join their ranks.

Only bright spot on all this? Eli Malone – the gorgeous boy with the beautiful aqua eyes that makes her feel things she’s never even imagined before. She’s not sure what to do with him, especially when Dan shows up glowering at him.

She’ll figure Eli out if she can survive the house. The ghosts are bound and determined to kill her so she’ll be one of them. Now if she can just figure out how to survive them and the demon stalking her, she might be able to decide what to do about her feelings for Dan and Eli.

That is if she can survive the night in the house.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Apryl Baker...

So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friend Chazz laughs at me when I scare myself watching them and tells me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

I read the first Ghost file book a while ago and although I though it would be more for a younger age group, I really enjoyed it. I wasn't aware any more had been written and came upon this book by chance recently. This writer has such a talent for story telling and these books are so well written, they would appeal to any age. I enjoyed this equally as much as the first one and so I have just downloaded book 3. Very good story and would definitely recommend. Nice work Ms Baker.

Ghost Files #2 is book two in this #YA #Horror series. I enjoyed #1 and downloaded this immediately to continue following the life of Mattie Hathaway, a reaper of souls. Mattie has been in the foster care system most of her life. She is just recovering from a violent attack. She is surrounded by friends; Officer Dan Richards, Dr Olivet, Mary, Meg and Eric a ghost.

Mattie can speak to ghosts, in fact she has abilities to help them cross over and she is a beacon to them, but it has its downsides as darker creatures also want her powers. Officer Dan is helping Mattie find out about her mother, he arrives to take her to her birthday party, but they are confronted by a demon. They only just escape in time and the party meal gets abandoned when it shows up again.

Dan and Mattie hole-up in Dan's flat, but even here Mattie is drawn to dangerous ghostly beings, but its a revelation from reliable Dan which breaks Mattie's heart and has her running away. She takes off to New Orleans to help Dr Olivet with a haunted house, but the City of the Dead is so full of ghosts who want help that Mattie is overwhelmed and passes out for three days.

Dr Olivet is working with the Malone family and they help Mattie to keep some of the ghosts at bay, but the house they are investigating holds some very strong evil characters who will stop at nothing to get to Mattie and her powers.

This series has a very compelling storyline, I really enjoy Mattie's sharp witty narration and there were some unexpected twists and turns which I enjoyed. I did want to learn more about some of the twists and storylines introduced and a couple of times I felt lost. For instance friends set up a party for you and you just leave and no one complains for follows it up? Mattie fears flying, yet next day she's flying to New Orleans? Throw in a handful of typos and this book was good, but not quite good enough. I'm sure more of the storylines I'm interested in will be explored in the next books in the series.

After reading the first book of `The Ghost Files` I was completely hooked and prayed that there would be a second book just as good to follow. This book was a perfect follow on from that of the first the story line remains highly unique and I thought this book was an amazing read.
The friendship of Mattie and Dan is perfectly followed as they face their tips and downs throughout this book after Mattie spends the first book questioning her feelings towards Dan.
I'd recommend this book to any teenagers who enjoy a large range of genres including action, horror and romance, however I would suggest to read the first book beforehand. I can't wait to read the third book!

This book will keep you guessing and there are so many incredible plot twists in the ghost files series, the books only get better. An absolutely amazing, interesting read you will not regret. A few spelling and vocabulary mistakes but that's the only fault.

It is an enjoyable series however I do find as a main protagonist Mattie is can be irritating. The amount of injuries she sustains is relentless - however it bowls along and is an easy read.

Really enjoyed this book/author. Got the first one free and just had to buy the second as enjoyed the first so much. Will have to get the rest now! Author writes well, keeps you gripped to the story, you can't put it down. (the best sign of a good book) There's romance brewing so you are waiting to see where that goes and most of the ghosts are bad!!! Lots of other things going on too so you just can't put it down, Excellent.

I enjoyed this book hugely, it feels stronger than the first although I enjoyed that one too.

The characters are well defined, at times slightly too repetitive but that didn't make too much difference in the way that I cared about them. The storyline itself is great and a few new nasties are well fleshed out!

There is one problem, though, and it did become really annoying at times. So many words are wrong! It's obvious what the author wanted to put but somewhere in the proof reading/ editing things went very wrong ie "I don't mean to keep buggering you about it". Obviously it was supposed to say 'bugging' so how on earth did that slip through?! It's a shame as I would have given a 5* rating otherwise but it happens throughout the book, not just a couple of times.

I have already downloaded the third installment - hopefully the problem doesn't persist as it did ruin it slightly for me.

I would recommend both the first book and this one to anyone who enjoys a good story packed full of spooks

Apryl Baker just keeps winning with this second installment.
Mattie is more at home with her abilities, but is still her own worst enemy when it comes to relationships. I don't know whether to feel for her or envy her.
It's a fun and exciting read!
