Jan Romes grew up in northwest Ohio with eight zany siblings. Married to her high school sweetheart for more years than seems possible, she's also a proud mom, mother-in-law, and grandma.

Jan writes contemporary romance and women's fiction with sharp, witty characters who give as good as they get. The more she writes the more risks she's willing to take with her characters.

When she's not writing, you can find Jan with her nose buried in a book or engaged in some sort of activity to stay fit. She loves spending time with family and friends. A hopeless romantic, she enjoys sunsets, sappy movies, and sitting around a campfire. Though she doesn't claim to have a green thumb, she takes pride in growing all kinds of flowers and plants.

Jan's passionate about everything that involves the written word. She loves to connect with readers. You can find her on Twitter, Facebook, at writer's conferences and book signings. If you love books as much as she does, she'd love to hear from you.

It’s a testament to Jan Romes’ writing that after downloading Married To Maggie, I intended to have a little peek and four hours later I was still reading. Married To Maggie is the best kind of romance, fun, witty and pure escapism.

With a plot that would rival Shakespeare, Married To Maggie hinges on secret schemes, double crosses, an arch-villain and nothing being as it seems. When Maggie Gray loses her job as a nurse, she is tempted into accepting an offer from billionaire oil tycoon Loy Vincent, to marry his grandson Ty. In a quirky twist of fate, Ty also hires Maggie to pose as his wife, in order to get his grandfather off his case. The novel takes place over the seven days from Maggie and Ty’s meeting to their wedding day and what a seven days it is.

The heart of the story is Maggie Gray herself, who is a terrific combination of vulnerability and grit. A dedicated cardiac nurse in her late twenties, she has a full life; helping at shelters for the homeless and dogs as well as belly dancing and socialising with her best friend Nancy. She’s not a woman to be pushed around and has no problem in standing up to the ferocious Loy Vincent and Ty’s snobby friends but at heart she is kind and caring. It doesn’t take long for her to regret becoming embroiled in the madcap scheme as her feelings for Ty are genuine and real.

Ty is also a likeable character, a man trying to live up to the reputation of his imposing lineage whilst making his own mark. There are lots of other engaging characters, most notably Ty’s mother Ellen and my own personal favourite, the paparazzi photographer Chaz Rosston. Romes’ skill as a writer is evident in her ability to bring her characters to life which makes her readers believe in them and care about them.

Married To Maggie makes no pretence to be anything other than what it is, a light hearted rom-com. However, it does touch on serious issues. Romes uses her novel to explore grief and how people deal with it differently. Ty is grieving for his father who died in a car accident and, because he has not really processed what happened, he suffers from debilitating panic attacks. Maggie has lost her own mother and her grief is manifested in a quiet sadness. At the same time we see how families can have a negative impact on each other when relationships become controlling rather than accepting.

Married To Maggie is the first novel in the Texas Boys Falling Fast series and one of the things I enjoyed was looking out for other characters who may be featured in future stories. I’m holding out hope for Sam Bright, the bar owner. All in all, I really enjoyed this novel and if you like a story that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step then I think this will be a great choice for you.

What a fun, witty, original, enjoyablebook! There’s so much to love:

The characters – Ty is the perfect hero: attractive but endearingly flawed. I loved his vulnerability as he grieves his father’s death. And Maggie is just brilliant: so strong, but also a big softie beneath it all – very easy to identify with.

The plot – I loved the double dealing; such a refreshingly new idea on which to base a love story! The story has plenty of depth to it, and lots of action. Jan is expert at knitting together all the threads to make for a really interesting, engaging read.

The realism – I really believed in the story and the characters. Poor Maggie, what a pickle she gets in simply because she cares for people so!

The passion – oh, such passion! Wonderful chemistry.

The wit and appealing tone in the writing – it’s a pleasure to read. I especially love the dialogue – I felt I was there in the scene, listening to real people talk.

The compelling pace – I found the book to be a real page-turner.

The ending – which of course I won’t share here; suffice it to say that it left me closing the book with a light heart and a wide smile.
In sum, a really great romance novel I’d recommend heartily. Heartwarming and mood-boosting: the literary equivalent of coffee and a muffin with a good friend.

When cardiac Nurse Maggie agrees to marry filthy rich Tysen, it is meant to be a marriage of convenience. Before long, both of them are further involved than their initial contract intended. Each with a hidden agenda, an irascible grand-father with his own secrets and everyone in on the plot except Maggie the story had enough twists to keep me reading. I read it in two days.

I thought the book was well-written, with well-drawn characters. I particularly liked the way Ms Romes developed the emotions in the main characters from their first meeting where nothing much is going on between them to the gradual awareness of both of them as their feelings begin to develop. The Dallas elite circle was well described too.

I loved the book. It was entertaining and I think it deserves every one of five stars.

This is an engaging and feel-good read. Maggie agrees to a deal to become rich oil tycoon Tyson Vincent's wife. Tyson is normally a "hit em and quit em" guy with a big ego but he is basically fragile. He meets Maggie and she agrees to a short term marriage in return for a lavish lifestyle; she becomes 'the wife for hire' a neat arrangement that will secure his place in the family firm. But while they both agree to this formal arrangement they fight the physical desire burning inside and deny the love that develops. 'Red flags of warning' are popping. Even as she enters the church she is uncertain but takes her sign from three white roses.
Jan's writing is crisp, original and feels fresh. Her descriptions and dialogue are those of a talented writer. 'Razor sharp anguish spliced across his chest.' 'She blew past the stop signs.' 'The air was charged with ions of unease.'
While the outcome wasn't entirely a surprise it was satisfying.

Very enjoyable light hearted romance story. In a tangled web Maggie agrees with two men to marry one of them. It all seems like a good idea but I think she bargained without her feelings getting involved. As the story progresses she wonders if she has made the right decision and does a lot of soul searching. Should she shouldn't she? Is she doing the right thing? All the way through I wanted them to fall in love but you'll need to read it to see if they do.

Ty Vincent is a bad boy who needs to settle down and asks Maggie Gray to marry him after he nearly passed out from pain in his chest.
Only thing is Low his grandfather hired Maggie to get close to Ty. She’s not doing it for money for her self she’s doing it to help the old man. Ty offers her money to wed him for his grandfather because if he doesn’t show responsibility he is going to loose the company to some other jerk. She doesn’t want his money either.

Will this work? Who knows. I am happy to report this is a great story. There is mild language and the adult party is also mild. I have read some hair raising stories in the past this is mild and appreciated!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightfully entertaining read!

Reading Married to Maggie took me back to some of the madcap comedies and romps of the 1930s and 1940s classic cinema, where flirtation between charming and witty leading men and ladies was elevated to high art and dialogue sparkled like the crystal on a dining room table.

From the first pages, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Maggie, a kind and caring cardiac nurse, devoted daughter, homeless shelter volunteer and belly dancer just to throw a little spice into the mix. Despite the light, entertaining nature of the story, the characters are real, living, breathing people with complex motivations, desires and ambiguities. Ty is a wealthy playboy, but the author resists stereotypes and creates a likable young man coping with the loss of his father and adult responsibilities with the family business. The attraction between Maggie and Ty is red-hot from the beginning, and this chemistry powers the story through its many twists and turns.

The class divide between Ty’s wealth and Maggie’s middle-class roots is artfully done and this is especially true in the interaction Maggie has with Ty’s friends Tori and Quinn. A great example of this is found early in the book when the two couples go out to dinner, and Maggie has to deal with the couple’s snobbery and at one point observes: “Buck up, Maggie girl, or these human meat grinders will turn you into hamburger.” And with that pluck and determination, Maggie navigates complex web of dueling schemes and surprises that lead to a very satisfying ending. Well done Jane Romes!

My review follows the author’s book blurb found on Amazon.
“Texas playboy, Ty Vincent, heir to the Vincent Oil fortune needs a short-term wife to convince his grandfather and the Board of Directors that he's changing his ways so they'll name him CEO. Ditching an environmental conference in Atlanta to play in Reno, Ty suffers razor-sharp chest pains at the airport. The pains were becoming a common occurrence that started showing up after he lost his father in a fiery crash a year earlier. The woman who comes to his aid not only helps him with what she can only assume is a heart attack but she also fibs to keep airport security and paparazzi from descending on him. She's brilliant, unemployed and not his type which makes her the perfect choice for a temporary spouse. If he can ignore her extraordinary blue eyes then everything will go according to plan.

Cardiac rehab nurse, Maggie Gray finds herself the victim of hospital downsizing. When T. Loy Vincent, I, a former patient, offers her a million dollars to get his grandson under control, Maggie is pressured by her father to enter into the wife-for-hire scheme. All she has to do is convince Ty Vincent to marry her. When she tracks Ty down at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport to put things in motion, she finds him in the middle of chest issues. The nurse in her takes over and before she knows it she's eyebrow deep in yet another deal. The second she says yes to both agreements, her life is turned upside down. To top it off, she can't seem to curb an annoying attraction for Dallas's most famous womanizer.

Six months. No Sex. No telling each other what to do. It should be a win-win for them both. Will the mayhem of wealth, media attention, meddlesome friends and chemistry so hot it could melt plastic ruin their lives? Or will it be the catalyst for happily-ever-after?”
    My Review:
I love romance stories and this book on spot romance. I was able to feel for the characters yet I did find it hard to believe that all this could happen in the span of one week, in Dallas. How two people could connect with obstacles thrown their way many times in one day, let alone seven days, and they still married? I would have run for the hills. I did like the character of Maggie. Having been a registered nurse it was easy to do so. The narrative is a fast easy read despite being so complex. Ty needed more backbone, and he really struggled with that issue. Anyone who loves contemporary romance stories should love this one. I found the three white roses in the bouquet especially touching.

My first read by this author and I wasn't disappointed. When I read a romance they are usually cut from the same cookie cutter mould. Married to Maggie was different. Romance, yes, but a few great twists and a surprise ending. I loved the style of writing, bringing you into the story. Making you feel like you knew the characters. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happens when you're too nice?
Reviewed in the United States on 16 June 2014
I love a great romance, especially when the main characters are balanced - I'm not into damsels in distress, or women trying to save men from themselves. From the first page, it is impossible not to see Maggie Gray and Ty Vincent as likeable people, too likeable actually.

It is their likeability that causes them problems. Maggie loves passionately, so when her father asks for her help, she gives all she has, literally. Ty Vincent, still deeply mourning the loss of his father, needs to prove himself to his grandfather, T. Loy Vincent. Loy Vincent is a bossy old buzzard, who runs a multi-million oil business, and wants his grandson to be tough enough to run the business, soon.

The wheels are set in motion, causing Maggie and Ty to come together to make the two most important people in their lives happy. What I truly appreciate about this story by Jan Romes is that Maggie is strong and capable, and never seen as less. Ty, rumored playboy, is a smart and capable man, who knows that his name isn't enough to get him where he wants to be.

There are laugh out loud passages, pages where the sexual tension is palpable, and tenderness that squeezes your heart. Surprise twists and turns leave our jaws dropping and rooting for everyone, even the evil paparazzi. A great read!
