I've had problems using social media for business in the past. It either becomes your hobby (which is a bad thing for a small business) or the task is delegated to the junior person in the office because she's the only one who knows how to make your printer print on both sides of a sheet of paper. Thus qualified, she's put in charge of your social media marketing - which isn't a healthy thing for any business.
Unless you're using a book like this to guide the task.
It's full (and I do mean full) of really practical guidance. Things you can do today to improve the results you get.

I pride myself on knowing roughly how this stuff works and halfway through the book I found myself saying, "I never thought of that..." and, "oh, so that's what it does!"

This book starts by making you THINK about what you're doing and why. Then it introduces you to a whole range of tools and techniques you can use. There's a lot to take in but it's up to you to choose what to implement and how to maintain it - that's what the "daily planner" bit is for. I'm working out my plan this week. Looks like I have quite a lot to do. At least now I'm a lot clearer about why I'm doing it and what I can expect to gain.
...and social media is no longer a hobby, preventing me from getting on with my work. Thanks to this book, it's part of the way I plan to do business, find customers and keep them.

A truly great 5 star resource. Why buy separate books to find out how to use LinkedIn, Twitter, blogging, article writing, on line clubs and forums, photos and images, online JVs, online profiles (and much, much more) when it’s all here? More than a guide to social media, this is a complete resource for social media marketing and your online social media presence. More than just a description of what’s possible, Fraser challenges you to make a personalised social media marketing plan, sets out the steps to make the plan, then how to execute it and establish a daily routine for refining and testing and then adjusting the plan. Everything from knowledge to know how, in order to reap the personal or business results you want. In plain language without the jargon that other writer's use to mystify social media.......

Let's face it, social media marketing is a black art and those that understand it are the kings of income. This book shows you, not just logically, but with incredibly in depth trade secrets and tools that the kings of m=online media income don't want you to have. Why? Because you're doing their job for them and automating your online media work, so you don't spend your life at your keyboard. You will be better than the geeks who rule the world of pixels, because you know your business. The best £5.00 I've spent. Thank you.

Again Fraser shares his tried and tested secrets in a way that is accessible and encouraging. Follow his advice step by step, and you cannot go wrong. Fraser only sells what he knows works, and that makes him stand out above the one-day-wonders in internet marketing. I have gained a few ideas just from browsing this book, and I know just following the steps consistently will give me results. Thanks, Fraser!

5.0 out of 5 stars Expert, professional advice by someone who knows his stuff. Highly recommended.

Fraser's work really struck a chord with me after reading "Stop Struggling, Start Growing", and when I saw his book on Social Media Planning, I grabbed a copy immediately.

My business relies heavily in online marketing and PR - this book really opened my eyes and showed me that I was way off target in my social media efforts. Fraser really lays it out in this book and and virtually takes you by the hand to show you how to plan and implement a successful - and profitable - social media plan. On top of that, he does a great job at making the whole process appear very streamlined and efficient, something I was truly terrible at.

I highly recommend this book to anyone new to social media marketing and to anyone needing a real overhaul of their current SMM efforts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful guide to social media marketing
Reviewed in the United States on 23 November 2014
The Social Media Daily Planner is a great guide to effectively use social media for business and marketing. The book takes the approach to naming problems of investment and addressing those problems with useful solutions to drive more traffic and sales with the proper use of social media.
This book breaks down all the different social media platforms and explains how to get the most out of each platform to get business going in the right direction. It has been incredibly helpful in getting my feet off the ground as a business owner and I think that it is a must-read for anyone who is wondering why their social media marketing campaign isn’t working. The book helped me realize some things I was lacking that I hadn’t even thought of before, which was a really great tool in helping me evaluate and analyze my specific situation.
Also, there are helpful exercises throughout the book to really put my goals in perspective and pinpoint my strong and weak points. I was able to find out where I need to work on getting better and what areas are really important when it comes to getting more business through LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Great read and very helpful!

This book is very well crafted, it starts with basics and then guides you on creating a proper online marketing campaign using top social media channels; Facebook, Twitter and many others. Author also has shared a massive and updated list of social bookmarking websites. Another thing that I like the most about this book is that it allows monitoring of your current performance.

This is a valuable book for beginners and those who've been around the track several times or more. Its for those who are willing to focus on how to get ahead using social media. Fraser puts all the tools on the table along with how to use them effectively. If you're not willing to focus carefully, don't bother. But if you've wondered what you've missed, and how to correct your course, this is a book you'll give five stars /:-)

3.0 out of 5 stars More for small business owners than for the self-employed
Reviewed in the United States on 23 April 2018
I gave up reading this about two-thirds of the way through, because it wasn't what I was looking for. I have dozens of highlights in most non-fiction books I read on Kindle. In this book, I had five.

The author says "social media" but he placed a lot of emphasis on LinkedIn. Yes, I get that LinkedIn is seen as social media, but I see it more as professional networking (so business-to-business) rather than social (friend-to-friend). So I think this book would be more useful for people involved in B2B marketing than B2C.

I also felt the author got confused about his audience at times. Sometimes it felt as though he was talking to the owner/operator, and sometimes it felt as though he was talking to the business owner who could delegate. Either way, I didn't feel he was talking to me. That's fine. Every book has a target audience, and it's fine that I'm not the target for this one.

I'd add one last caution: this book was published in 2013 (and updated in 2017), and most of the social networks have updated their algorithms and terms of service since then. The principles of social media marketing will hold true, but many of the practicalities have changed (e.g. the book says tweets are limited to 140 characters when they are now 280).
