Alex Goodwin is a 13-year-old writer with a passion for getting some laughs. He lives in Arizona with his parents because he feels like he might be too young to go and take on the world. (But don’t you 30-year-olds get any ideas.)

His passions involve martial arts, video games, and math. He will continue to write novels and short stories for as long as the sun shines, and his mom says he has to.

The stories in this book are crazy, zany fun. It's difficult to pick a favourite one as I liked them all.
The notes from the author within the stories add to the enjoyment of the book. I love the bit with "press one if you.. or press two if you.....", excellent take on call centers.

Sometimes I was left stunned how well someone that young hit the nail on the head. No matter if the bosses invite themselves with extremely short notice to dinner (had quite a similar experience with one of my bosses some years back) or the part in the Christmas story where an observant author tells us that when Christmas is getting closer we want to give ourselves some space, but can't because we are so crammed in with Christmas trees and presents, that there's basically no breathing space left during the festive season.

Well done Mr. Goodwin and I hope you will contine to write as long as you'll enjoy it.

But now I have to stop here, I'm off to the Dumb-Mart. Just noticed, I need to restock the Pickled Goats' Feet.

A great collection of short stories that had me and my four year old son laughing plenty of times throughout. The author clearly has a beautiful imagination. A bargain for the price and highly recommended.

This might be one of the most unique books my slugs and I have ever read. It's zany, it's irreverent, there's a message in the middle from the narrator, the narrator even appears as a character in one of the stories then proceeds to end the story, there's a granny in a grocery store which gets blown up - this is so weird, random and incredibly funny. And, to top it all off, the author's 13! (What was I doing when I was thirteen besides breeding slugs and perfecting my cabbage-throwing technique? Damn you life!) I would never have guessed the author's thirteen as the humour's fantastic (5+5? TACOS!???), the stories are interestingly weird and should appeal to most kids and those that are kids at heart. If you like early South Park or anything I've written then you'll love this book.

As I began to read this book of short stories, my mind immediately thought of my ten year old son. This delightful book is ideal for young children who love anything silly. Just as the title suggests this collection of stories is amusing and adults you have to suspend your seriousness to enter.
My son laughed aloud at the exploits of Billy and Bob as they weave their crazy way through life. Share in the antics of this strange duo as they travel to strange places and take on the world. Don't take anything you read seriously and you are guaranteed a good laugh.

A good laugh is the most important thing that this book will offer you! But then, isn't that the idea?

When raw talent coupled with inspiration and the ultimate encouragement is allowed to flow without all the contaminating rules of literary conduct and supposed efficacies, this is a typical example of what is birthed.

The author, Alex Godwin, reflects the promise of brilliant writing skill, strong in its potential for unattained greatness, and rife with all the humorous tendencies of a modern generation. A scaler juxtaposition wouldn't only prove catastrophic but would also tell on the congruence of the comparer's frailly-achieved yet apparent psych attempt, moreso when this brilliance has amassed a raving cacophony of unbiased praises, weak in the malignancy of the purported critical efficiency of a mass audience, yet strong in its own unbeatable, creatively-conceived form.

Problem Cousin and Other Funny Stories" by Alex Goodwin is a collection of humorous stories that honestly tickled my funny bone!

Having a son named Billy who we often called Billy Bob, these short stories had me right off the bat! Some were all too familiar with the antics the adventurous duo, Billy and Bob have together. Throw in a cousin named Billy Bob and you have some funny and off the wall humor that teenage boys are all about.

From the beginning tale of 'The Grocery Store' to the last 'Christmas' (a favorite) and all the stories in between, like 'This message is just here' I found the writing witty and charming and can't wait for many more books from this new and up-coming author.

5 stars and highly recommended to the young and old. Very well done Mr. Alex Goodwin

Teenage author Alex Goodwin has written a funny and thoughtful first book.

`Problem Cousin' is a series of skits features the antics of Bob Bobinson and his best pal Billy Boogendoodle. They shop for pickled goat's feet, fight roaches, re-join first grade for a day, meet a `banana witch,' hang out with the eponymous Billy-Bob, go on a disastrous mini vacation, endure a strange cold and chase a Xmas tree down the side of a mountain.

The author inserts himself into the narrative with the occasional direct address to the reader, a sort of running commentary on the action that is done sparingly enough to not be bothersome.

Overall, the writing is mature and even handed. One might expect crude toilet jokes and other juvenile sort of diversions but the author wisely avoids this kind of humor and successfully finds ways to make the reader smile and occasionally laugh out loud through story and character, from the bizarre situations and how these characters react.

Probably the most impressive quality of the book is the general professionalism of the presentation. I didn't find a single typo and the book doesn't feel padded. If Alex Goodwin continues with this level of quality publishing, I predict a rosy future for him on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's a shortage of bananas worldwide

Here we have a book written by a thirteen year old. Before you click away, read a little further--the value of this book is not in the novelty of being written by a middle-schooler. It's in what he wrote.

"Problem Cousin and Other Funny Stories" by Alex Goodwin is a collection of humorous stories. Granted, the first story, "The Grocery Store," does smack a little of "Spongebob," but as you read on to the later pieces, you realize that this young man has a strong grasp not only on a written word, but on that rare quality of writing prose that makes people laugh. If you think it's easy, try it yourself. Also, a note to any writers who'll happen to read this book: This is how the dialog should be written. There's nothing extra, and it's always clear who is speaking. As a book critic, I suffer needlessly with the exact opposite on a daily basis; get with the program people.

The book follows (mis-) adventures of Billy and Bob. Sometimes Bob's titular cousin, Billy-Bob is also on the scene. "The Bosses," who are mysterious employers of Billy's, and who prefer to communicate with our two heroes remotely, also make an appearance periodically. Out of one-off characters, I think my favorite is Dark Citrus, "a tangerine that was half-demonic and half-epic."

The writing style is easy and compact. Sometimes, the "narrator" makes an appearance, mostly to make fun of some of writing clichés:

"Just as the two thought all hope was lost, a miracle happened. No, just kidding. He-he, I got your hopes up. Back to the story."

      ...Or:

"Hey, I don't want to hear any negative comments on this. I wanted to have a happy ending for once."

This book made me laugh many times as I was reading it. And I mean "laugh," not just smirk in my usual condescending way. Considering that there were only a few other books that I've read this year that did the same, I would say it makes for the price of admission, despite a few rough edges. So, after you finished installing a doggy door for your imaginary pets and fishing out bills, pipebombs, and death threats from your junk mail, give this book a read. Recommended.

Problem Cousins and Other Funny Stories by Author Alex Goodwin

Bob Robinson and Billy Boogendoodle, the main characters in this humorous and fun-filled book...with its wide variety of short stories...is sure to bring much amusement to the younger reading audience.

In saying that...thirteen year old Author Alex Goodwin knows exactly what to write in order to capture the interest of his audience because he is young himself and has a wonderful sense of humor. It shines through in every word that he writes. He does a fine job of utilizing his imagination and creativity. His use of the English language is also impeccable.

In "Problem Cousins and Other Funny Stories", this talented young author knows exactly what appeals to boys, and perhaps some girls too, as he describes the antics and adventures of Bob and Billy. It is very easy to visualize what they are experiencing...which is very important in books geared for this age group. Comments like "revealing a piece of lettuce hanging from his crooked teeth" used to describe Cousin Billy-Bob can't help but bring a chuckle to anyone's lips. How many times has that actually occurred in real-life? It's quite easy to imagine such vividly described comedic episodes that this silly pair of "guys" engage in. This is one of the most enticing strategies behind Author Alex Goodwin's technique and humorous style of writing.

I enjoyed the play on words and this young author's keen wit. The final story in "Problem Cousins and Other Funny Stories" titled "Christmas" brings this book to the grand finale at such an appropriate time of the year. Such fun!

Problem Cousin and Other Funny Stories is the debut book by Alex Goodwin, a 13-year-old! And he's done a great job! I wish I'd started writing books at thirteen, instead of whatever I was doing at the time (it was a long time ago). And that's my point, you don't need to be a teenager to enjoy these amusing stories. He got many hearty laughs from me and I smiled through the whole book. Problem Cousin is good medicine for any stress that is distracting you.

Goodwin's bio says he is a writer with a passion for getting some laughs and it shows. The book is funny and as any writer knows, getting humor off the page is hard, much more difficult than getting tears. Everyone should read this book because it'll make you feel better. It will do what it's meant to do . . . amuse you, but don't be surprised if you are also inspired the accomplishment of a 13-year-old.

The two main characters (not counting the clever narrator) Bob Bobinson and Billy Boogendoodle are a couple of goofballs and I hope we get to read more of their "adventures" in a sequel. Speaking of adventures, the author "feels like he might be a little too young to go and take on the world." Maybe, but he's made a fine start with this book.

This is a fast and easy read. This author (did I mention he's thirteen!) has a bright future. And, as he says, "Since I'm tired of writing for today, I'm just going to say that they lived happily for a few days."
