Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.
Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.
But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.
USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde’s Record series begins with a sleek, sexy, and smart venture into a high-stakes political campaign and an even higher-stakes affair that, in the end, will leave you wanting more with one of Linde’s gripping cliffhangers.

Review
“The first book of the Record trilogy provides a high-stakes, steamy romance. Linde’s love for her characters and her subject matter make this story a fascinating chess match of politics and personal desires...Linde has developed an interesting conundrum for her characters that promises much for future installments.” —RT Book Reviews

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 March 2014OMG… OMFG… NO NO NO!! I need more.. i mean i am pretty much on my knees here!!!!
I wanted this book from the moment i read the excerpt and I mean WANTED it.. i checked for updates on FB and blogs.. Well holy moly it was well worth the wait.. I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I was completely and utterly hooked after just reading the first page and just wanted more, more more until the very last word.. at which point i may have ripped some hair out!!
If someone had asked me if I felt reading a book that was based around politics and journalism, i will be honest and say i would have thought not. But this book proved me wrong and i am so glad it did. You have all the important information about how things work but without it being a drag to the story line. You want to know these facts and i think they help the story line immensely. Then you have the characters.. Enter Brady Maxwell. I know this probably sounds cheesy to some of you but he really did at times take my breath away.. and i mean literally. I found my self holding my breath and curling my toes and at certain points i out right swooned (and got an eye roll and tut from my fella because of it! oh and the whole 'he isn't real') well you know what.. he was real enough to me whilst i was reading it that i would without doubt run a way with him. He just had everything that I would want and I love him. But what i love about this story is that I just know that not everyone may feel that was about Senator Maxwell and there will be some seriously loved up Hayden fans out there and that is one of the thing i love about KA Linde's ability to write about two different men that will appeal to people so differently. I mean she nearly had me killing my iPad with the Avoiding series!!
So onto Liz our leading lady. I have to say that i really did love her from the outset and although at times and particularly at the beginning you felt she may be a weak leading lady but in my opinion that changes. I am not 100% sure that everyone would agree with me on this as it has to be said that she puts up with a lot, but to me that was her strength. Don't get me wrong there was times when i wanted to jump in and give her a shake for things she did but I think that everyone will want something different from this story and everyone will be wanting to shake her for different reasons.
Either way this book will have you rooting for someone and turning those pages to see how it plays out. This book was the perfect mix of a bit of everything and i absolutely loved it. I honestly and truly cannot wait for the next book.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 March 2014I read a hell of a lot of books and I only ever rate a book now if its worth a read because I'm just too busy to rate all the books I read. This books is worth reading, someone actually only gave this book 1 star, I think she was reading a different book because I cant understand her reasons for giving it 1 star, unbelievable.
I liked the story line, yes, it could have been better and I do think it was a bit rushed in parts, but there is a second addition to this book called 'On the record' coming out in August so I'm guessing that's why.
Anyway, I just hope that the author allows the female character Liz to show a bit more back bone where it comes to relationship with men.
The author really needs to allow the character Liz to grow more and instead of chasing Brady, she should get angry with him more and make Brady work harder in the relationship with Liz, it was really frustrating to keep reading that Liz was doing all the chasing and waiting around.
Otherwise I thought it was o.k and worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 June 2014This was a good and easy read but I was disappointed about the abrupt end and wanted to know what happened to the characters.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2025Liz is offered the position to report on the forthcoming elections in her uni paper. She gets the opportunity to ask a question to Brady Maxwell that no one expected and brings her sharply into Brady's orbit. Her political affiliations and arguments are brought under scrutiny by her professor. She begins a secret dalliance with Brady where everything she's believed in is changed.. Lots of secrets but very passionate.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 March 2014Firstly I love K.A. Linde's books. I was hooked on her Avoiding series from the beginning and she has followed the same pattern with this book. It may be based on politics and campaigns but you don't need to understand the ins and outs of political science to follow the plot. (But an interest in it makes the book that much more enjoyable!)
At the heart of the book is a very real love story. Liz and Brady come across as very genuine and their ups and downs feel authentic. I like how there is no insta-love and the relationship builds. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll just say Linde sets things in motion with her other characters which I am sure will provide a ton of angst in the next books in this series. My only complaint is that I had no connection to Victoria. I usually love the best friend as much as the heroine but I didn't feel anything for Victoria.
Regardless this book is fantastic and I can't wait for the next one. I both love and hate cliffhangers but you come to expect it with a Linde novel. August can't come quick enough.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2014I enjoyed reading this story set in American politics. The story centre's around Liz a student reporter and Brady a state senator who is climbing up the political ladder. Brady's political career is very important to him and he insists on their relationship being secret. But Liz doesn't doesn't understand. I felt empathy with both characters as they struggled with their emotions.
This was an easy to read and follow story with likeable engaging and characters. There is a second instalment for those who want to follow Liz and Brady.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tudo de bom!
Off The Record” é uma estória sobre ambição, amor proibido e sacrifícios. E eu definitivamente recomendo para aqueles que gostam de um romance caliente com a dosagem perfeita de angustia. Contudo, se preparem para um final abrupto, que vai deixar você querendo mais...

5.0 out of 5 stars You will fall under Brady's spell
I Loved Loved Loved this book. Brady and Liz have a spark, no denying it. Where does it go? is the question you keep wondering whilst ready. You almost hope that it's the happy ever after. K.A. Linde's writing keeps you wanting more. I enjoyed that it has a lot of politics in the book, it adds another dimension to the characters. You can see how some characters fall in love and their passion. It's not just the sexual chemistry but the intelligence that connects them. I couldn't put this book down, once I got into it (which took a few chapters in) I found any moment I could to continue reading. I really like how Liz is not just a beautiful woman but an intelligent, quick witted and independent woman. Worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review in which is so confusing, hope reading it forces you to buy the book so you can make sense of it.
I FEEL AS THOUGH MY ENTIRE REVIEW COULD BE TYPED IN CAPITAL LETTERS!!! This is how I am talking in my head right now because this book was AWESOME. But I will not do that to ya'll since you are taking the time to read this review.
Back to the mind blowing, awesome, sexy, angsty, & more descriptive words I can't form right now book. I personally love, LOVE Linde's writing style...she is full of drama and always throws in twists & turns I am not expecting.
This book, obviously, if you read the description is a political romance novel, personally my favorite if done right. Linde did it right.
Throughout the entire novel we see Brady's & Liz's story from Liz's point of view....so we are never quite sure how Brady is feeling, is he telling the truth, what his agenda is, does he have an agenda, or maybe he just wants a bed buddy? Then we have those moments when all you are thinking is awww i love him but then he goes back to pissing me off. Then Linde throws in the last chapter....the chapter in Bradys pov. & then im back to liking him again!
Linde has this common thread throughout all her novels...she has characters with whom I love & hate throughout the entire novel/series....I am always screaming at them to do what I want them to do but they never do it and Off the Record is not different. & i love it! Her books are different from any i have read before, her characters are so conflicted, sometimes warped, make bad choices, attempt to right them, and it is SO REAL. Her characters are so beyond real because they have feelings in which we can relate to. That is the magic & what attracts so many others to her books. Plus they are just freaking awesome.
I have more than likely just confused the heck out of anyone attempting to read this review but this book is an experience,... you will be happy, sad, mad, in love with some characters, hate others, feel awful for Lane, want to scream at Liz, want to hit Brady in the freaking face and make-out with him at the same time...because he is freaking HOT.
You truly run the gamete of feelings through out this entire novel but is a great one. Personally probably my favorite KA Linde novel to date.
If anything I hope this review confuses you enough that you feel like you HAVE to read this book. You honestly will not regret it. It is jam packed of lies, drama, love, confusion, one super smoking hot guy in which you totally want liz to give him up so you can have him, and a guy who is so cute, adorable, & hot in his own way you want to give him a hug....plus on top of all of this Brady & Liz are attempting to hide their explosive relationship and you are on that journey with them.
This book is awesomesauce & I have one major book hangover.
YOU need to buy this book. Buy it now and read it and love it. You will not be sorry.
I promise!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommendation
OFF THE RECORD is about a sexy yet forbidden political romance best left off the record. In politics, image is everything and a romance with a political reporter, especially one who is clearly not in your camp and still attending coolege, could wreck the upcoming election. I really enjoyed the political aspect of the story, it was interesting for a German reader to learn about a campaign, elections and the involvment of the family in those.
I really liked the tug of war between his career goals he's lived for and his feelings for Liz. Liz does not give away their secret and is very strong in the end when she makes the decision for them.
