When Ivy meets Walt at a party she sees past the corny pick up lines (a dare from his friends, or so he tells her) and his t-shirt featuring the immortal slogan, 'Don't hate me because I'm beautiful - hate me because I have big boobs!' and they fall in love. Not only is he Ivy's first love, he's also her first lover, and she's sure nothing could ever come between them. Their love is simple yet magical, and they delight in the happiness they have created. But when unimaginable tragedy strikes, their future is thrown into turmoil, and Ivy goes searching for answers. Will she find them? Or will she forever be searching for something which just isn't there. When Stars Collide is a story about love, and the journey of one woman to rediscover what is important to her following the loss of her life as she knows it.

After years spent working her way round the world on cruise ships and at Club Med resorts (and yes, the rumours are all true) Tammy now lives in the beautiful Bay of Plenty with her husband, their baby girl Holly (born October 2012), a scatty black Labrador and a grumpy black cat who occasionally requires a two week course of anti-anxiety medication to stop him from pulling his own fur out. Seriously. When not being drooled/vomited/pooped on by Holly or staring out the window daydreaming of adventures to be had, Tammy manages to squeeze in some writing. She dreams of showing off this beautiful, incredible world to her daughter and is intent on squeezing every last drop out of life. Remember finding your first love, and the excitement that came with it? Remember not wanting to be apart from them and your family realising that you were growing up before their very eyes? Aw, a love story! A love story of Ivy and Walt to be precise. Two people falling head over heels in love with each other, excited for their future and being together…if only it was that simple. If only things were as straight forward as being in love and being allowed to get on with it. Never is, is it? It’s always very calm…..before the storm….
Yet again I read this book without reading the blurb, and once again I am glad that I did it that way. I wanted to see the story unfold without knowing a thing, which is exactly what’s going to happen in this review! Usually I write general things about a book without spoilers (obviously), just to give readers a rough idea before they read it. But this time, I’m not going to because I feel that it is a story you need to find out for yourself, just like I did. Why? Because the book is a work of art. I will tell you what I thought of it though, naturally. I absolutely loved it, from start to finish. The amount of raw and powerful emotion that escapes into the story is incredible. As it’s already known, you do get to remember the love story of a first love and experience how Ivy felt. But then everything changed. The dynamics in the book changed. I was sitting bolt up right in my bed with my hand covering my mouth. No, I’m not being dramatic, it is THAT powerful.
Every event within the story is backed with a very realistic description; to the point where I felt that I was looking through Ivy’s eyes to what she saw. It made me feel that I was Ivy, walking the same path has her, realising that love comes in multiple forms, and that it’s not just reserved for that special someone. Friends, family, pets…you catch my drift. As I’ve said already, ‘When Stars Collide’ isn’t a simple love story, not by miles. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried multiple times. All of the emotional parts of the story came through in different ways. It wasn’t upset for one particular part or chapter, it was various things within the whole book. Does that make sense?
The story made me realise that you need to grab things with both hands. Love with all your might. Make the effort with those you love and don’t pay attention to those you don’t love or care for. When Stars Collide may also teach you other lessons, such as, helping you to realise that people deal with things in different ways and just because you don’t agree with it, doesn’t make it wrong. It might even teach you that you don’t need to justify how you feel to anybody, but others need to respect how you feel. Why do I think you might get taught a few things? Because I did. I had never read such a powerful, poignant, emotional and raw book…until I read this one. I just had to keep reading it…which is why I finished the book in little over an hour. People have said to me before ‘why do you read books that make you cry?’ and my answer to that is this; you don’t tell yourself that you will cry at a story, it’s not something that you know will happen. But when you get a book such as this, that has such power over you to the point of you getting emotionally involved in the characters lives, it’s extremely hard not to get upset. Especially when the characters you have gotten to know throughout the story are faced with tragedies, uncertainty, and even themselves.
Tammy Robinson, you are incredible at what you do and I am in awe of you and your work. Such a talented and humble individual, yet can produce such powerful writing. Amazing.

I have two points to say about this book:
    1. I love it
    2. This book should with a warning - prepare to have your heart broken!
As light heated as it may sound on the cover, Tammy Robinson is brave - she has based her book on what is, in my opinion, the most terrible thing in the world today - and brings it home in the most real way imaginable.
This is 302 pages of pure, undiluted emotional rollercoaster.
I totally felt as I was there with Ivy, feeling her pain, experiencing her mental agony.
Walt is sweet, kind, and I loved him for never stopping loving her.
    I cried. A lot.
And I couldn't put it down.
Hearing Ivy's story was strangely inspirational, the way she was forced to pick herself up and start over completely. The way she moved on whilst also reminiscing the past in a way that reverent snapped my heart in two and yet brought back together a million times stronger.
The emotions in the this book are varied as the colours in the famous estuary sunsets, from smears of blood red to palatinate blue, there's never a dull moment and has stuck in my mind for long after I read it - and it is for that reason that I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

I could almost believe this was written by two different authors. The beginning and end were childish and slushy, the sort of writing you'd expect from an early teen trying a first attempt at a novel, whereas the middle section took on a whole different feel and became adult and moving. The reader could be forgiven for thinking this was deliberate on the part of the author, showing the main character moving from a naive unworldly girl to a mature woman and she might have got away with it but for the fact it reverted to its childish formula for the conclusion. Could also have done with some serious editing as it was full of mis-spellings and grammatical errors which further detracted from the narrative. Altogether a one step forward, two steps back sort of book; enjoyable yet irritating; gripping yet annoying; good idea, poorly executed; you get the idea.

After reading Tammy's first book 'Charlie and Pearl' I could hardly wait for her to finish the second ! Her style of writing makes for a very believable story and characters that are so down to earth you would think it could be true.
I love that Ivy is a young girl, unworldly and innocent in the first part of the book but then what follows in a very sudden change of plot is also something that could well be from real life.
Walt is a wonderful character, down to earth and a gentleman. I love how Tammy writes in almost simple terms in the first half allowing you to have faith that Walt and Ivy's love and infatuation for one another is real, pure and simple. When I started into the plot change I really did open my eyes a bit wider when I realised what had happened and yes I did shed a tear !!

Anyway if I continue I might end up giving something away so buy the book and enjoy, I love reading Tammy's books and eagerly await the third xx

This is the second Tammy Robinson book I've read and absolutely adored. Between my tears, I was shaking my head in wonder...how does she do it? Creates characters so real and so life like it's like you're right there with them. This book had lots of unexpected twists and turns that had me racing through it to find out what would happen. The letters throughout the book added so much depth to the story line and made me love Ivy - I just wanted to reach through the pages and give her a huge hug. The settings, through Ivy's travels are rich, and well written, and a great touch as she goes through her journey to heal. Ivy's Grandad is about the sweetest guy ever! And Walt! I'll let you find out about that... The way Tammy writes emotion, and loss, and love is truly magnificent, and I can't wait to start her next book which is waiting patiently on my kindle. Highly recommend this book!

This is the fourth of Tammy's books that I've read and she never disappoints. It always amazes me that someone can write such totally different books. Can't wait for the next of Tammy's books.

Wow. I loved this book. I nearly threw up my heart during one part! It has an almighty shocker in it that's for sure. I loved following Ivy's journey through life. Watching her grow and find herself again after unimaginable tragedy destroyed the girl she once was. Her experience was so beautifully portrayed, it was as if her grief became my own. I could swear the characters are real people living their lives out in the world they were so perfectly developed.
I am so glad I read this book it was just a wonderful experience.
Another amazing novel Tammy. I don't know how you do it.

The book started off well. It was charming and funny. Then the tragedy struck. I really started to dislike ivy and how she handled the situation. Walt was wonderful and the redeeming factor in the book. I even felt a little sorry for Nina. Not sure I would recommend this book since I spent most of it wanting to smack ivy upside the head.
