Wow ..great read I'm really glad I stuck with it.
Ember seems to be pushed from pillar to post not feeling like her life is her own. Always having to do things for others.
We get to meet the unseelie king in this installment where Ember takes refuge which in turns helps her to grow. Ember and Eli's relationship is still fiery and Eli is never too far away no matter where she is.

Such a heart wrenching suspense ridden book. Picking up right where she left off Ember seems to be a magnet for trouble, dark and light fae are hunting her and there is no escaping the inexplicable guilt she feels for what the queen made her do. But it's time to put on her big girl pants and deal with it.

Seeking refuge in an unexpected sanctuary she trains to use her powers to be the weapon everyone wants her to be.
    Absolutely loved it

After the Seattle incident Ember is on the run but Eli is never far behind.
Back together again, the push and pull between these 2 continue to frustrate me and yet I want them to work it out, I've grown to like them both as individuals and as a pair a bit more through this book.
We learn a bit more about the Demon side of our dear Dae by meeting a new batch of characters......but there are still secrets, lots and lots of secrets.

A great follow on from the first book and you don't have to spend the first few chapters being told the same thing i.e. what happened in the last book although there are references to it. Although I enjoyed this book it seemed a little on the short side which then left several pages with reference to other books.

As the blurb says, this one picks up about four weeks after Ember destroys Seattle. She has been constantly on the run from the Seelie Queen's minions and all others hunting her for profit. She does her best to stay away from people because, while they provide a bit of protection, they are definitely not safe from her uncontrolled powers. She thinks she's been doing a good job of it all until she gets cornered and Eli comes to her "rescue". Turns out he's been doing his damndest to keep all who would harm her away from her without getting too close to her so that she runs when she feels him near. She becomes a prisoner of a sort on the dark dweller compound for a little while until one of her biggest fears comes to pass. Angry at pretty much everybody, she runs away. And runs and runs. Then passes out. To wake up in the Unseelie King's house. Making a deal with him, she is trained to control the various aspects of her power as well as gets some history lessons here and there. Her progress with control leaves much to be desired, but it stems from her not quite letting go of thinking like a human. The people there are almost like a family and not at all what she was expecting, and she starts to even like some of them. She's been there for a few months I think and has been feeling Eli's presence outside the wards for a while. One night she decides to cross them and pick a fight with him. But that does a 180 fast enough leaving both of them blissfully happy for a few hours. But of course, Lorcan has to show up and ruin everything. He tells Ember something she just doesn't want to believe, and she runs away...again. This time to do something stupid. But she is stupidly determined and pretty much manipulates Torin into helping her. Their plan starts out going well enough but soon goes way downhill. Setting Ember up for the shock of her life. But with a little help from a couple pixies, at least some good comes of her reckless actions and she makes it back to the Earth realm okay with others in tow. Only to have Eli appear and drop the bomb on her that while she thinks she's only been gone maybe a day or so, she's been gone from there for three years. And they have clearly had their effect on Eli.

Ember learns much this time around, but it's clear that there are still a lot more secrets being kept from her. And some of them I can't help but speculate about.

As much as I love Eli, I almost think he's better in a book than in person. I just don't know if I would like him as much if I actually had to deal with him. But when him and Ember are together it is just fantastic. Their relationship may be a to and fro of anger and tease but it is definitely entertaining. Their banter is probably one of my favorite parts.

I was definitely surprised at who Lars turned out to be especially considering Torin kept telling Ember to find him. And speaking of Torin, I still don't like him. I don't trust him either. But I was not surprised as to the reason why he acts and talks the way he does toward Ember. I actually suspected as much in the last book...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read!

Fire in the Darkness is book 2 in Stacey Marie Brown’s Darkness Story. If you haven’t read Darkness of Light it is highly recommended as this book takes off where it ends.

Secrets are unearthed, Ember’s journey has her mind, body, and heart challenged and torn. I was blown away by the first book of the Darkness series, Darkness of Light, and I couldn’t wait to get into this story. Ember is in the middle of a war between Light and Dark, both sides wanting her for different but similar reasons.

After being the cause of a city being completely destroyed due to her powers, Ember is riddled with guilt and fear of being caught and used as a weapon again. But guilt and fear aren’t the only emotions she is dealing with she is also having to deal with heartache knowing the man she has a connection with has betrayed her. Struggling to survive on her own in the crumbled city while constantly looking over her shoulder, is starting to take its toll on her emotional, physically and mentally. When her emotions are running high things are happening again and people are being hurt. Being proud for being able to keep herself safe and free for weeks, it’s not until our favourite sexy-as-sin Dark Dweller Eli shows back up that she realises just how much danger she really was in the whole time and how much she has craved and missed him.

Ember questioned everything and everyone as she tried to figure out the motives of pretty much everything around her. It was dizzying and frustrating.

I want so badly for Eli to be what she needs, and my heart raced and grew whenever they get a little closer. But every time Torin would show up I would feel deflated as there is something about him I don’t trust. Please don’t let him be what Ember needs or wants. It has to be the bad boy working against s his natural instincts. #TeamEli I really hope that Ember and Eli are able to work things out and clear up all their secrets and lies, I think they are great together. Besides I have a thing for the bad boy getting the girl, the whole having to work and changing his ways makes it more enjoyable.

    My favourite quote:
“I don’t know if I want to smack you because you’re naïve or plain stupid,” Eli said, irritation soaking his words.
“You touch me and you lose your most beloved girlfriend there.” I nodded toward his hand.
Eli scoffed. “Then I’ll train yours.”

Book Review-Fire in the Darkness by Stacy Marie Brown

Ember has been on her own for a month. She is hiding from the queen and her guards. She is feeling so much guilt when she looks around Seattle and the people. She narrowly escapes the guards but learns she has a bounty on her head. Eli and the Dark Dwellers find her and take her to their compound. It seems to be the only safe place for her at the moment.
She is so angry and hurt. Everyone wants to use her for something and she has no one she can trust. Eli pretended to care for her and she knows she is truly on her own. She has to save her stepfather, Mark. However something is happening to Ember. She doesn’t feel the same and something has changed. Owen does blood tests on her and shocks her with news that she is changing. Into what seems to be the question.
Then her nightmare gets worse when Lorcan kidnaps her friends. He wants her and they are insurance. When Samantha kills one and Lorcan takes the rest to the otherworld, Ember loses it. She leaves the safety of the Dark Dwellers blaming them. She wants to let go of everything. Unfortunately her life changes drastically again when she is found by the Unseelie King. It seems she will forever be used by others.
I really like this series. The storyline is intriguing. You don’t know who Ember can trust. Everyone wants her for their own gain. The author keeps you guessing at what is going to happen next. The author has created an intricate story layered with so much going on but it doesn’t overwhelm the story. Shocking revelations are thrown in to keep the reader off balance. There are a lot of surprises in this book. They are needed to advance the story but shocked me all the same. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens.
I love how Ember is changing. She is one of a kind. Her powers are growing and she is a very strong female character. I have become invested and want to see her do what she needs to do plus get her happy ending. I give this book a 4 out of 5.
