A wonderfully original mystery novel, starring the unorthodox pairing of the dashing Nick Thayne and the uptight matter-of-fact Lea Fox, in their first outing together. The awkward interaction of the pair with the mutual distaste for one another, adds great intrigue to a well worked and woven tale that keeps you guessing until the last few pages.

This is a tale of mystery, and Tyan Wyss has the ability to describe each detail throughout like a witness testimony, in her creative prose. The characters come alive from the book giving you a reason to like or dislike them in equal measure. The story flows well, and at a pace that will have you wanted to turn the pages again and again.

This is a good take on the usual run-of-the-mill police procedural angle, coming off as a credible halfway house between Detective and Private Eye. This is my first taste of Tyan Wyss, and I can say for a fact that I will be reading more!

An enjoyable, unusual mystery with plenty of surprises.
I especially enjoyed the relationship between the two PI's reluctantly brought together to solve this mystery. Thayne is handsome and charming, while Fox is abrupt and abrasive. Thayne has a "special gift," of foresight, which has aroused suspicion. Fox's directness and thorough research methods have created enemies. Her immunity to Thayne's charms leaves him confused, resentful and finally intrigued. The banter between them, lightens what is quite a dark story.
I had a real sense of small town America, where this story is based. The politics, secrets, gossip and long term allegiances played an important part in the atmosphere and the plotting.
The book straddles two genres. The style of writing and insights into the small community and characters gives the feel of a cozy mystery. However, the resolution of the mystery throws up some quite dark issues.
I recommend this book to people who like cozy mysteries with a punch.
If a second book is planned for these two detectives I will be reading it.

I think this is a great murder, mystery story and it has very original leading characters! The author has done a great job of creating two PIs who are both very different and very quirky. One is a woman and the other a man. Both would be good characters individually but thrown together they create a wonderful combustible mixture, which is often fiery and alway interesting, allowing the author the opportunity to write some wonderful dialogue as they rub each other up the wrong way.
As the two of them set out to solve a local murder with links to a murder in the past, we have a number of suspects in a small town where everyone knows each other's life and their history is often entwined. I was ninety per cent through the book before I discovered with shock who was responsible for the murders.
I assume the author is going to write a whole series of books featuring these PIs. At least I hope she does! This would also make a great film and Morgan Freeman would be brilliant as the gardner!
Strongly recommended for anyone who likes a great murder mystery.

This author knows more about plants than I will ever learn in a lifetime. A straight forward detective, mystery story that kept me guessing for most of the book. The characters were well drawn and the story flowed smoothly. The plot itself was not especially different, a team of two mis-matched detectives, up against the local police department with corrupt officials. However the story was intricate enough to hold me attention. A few formatting errors which spoilt the flow and the book would benefit from further proofreading. All in all, I enjoyed the read and it’s worth the 4 stars I’ve given it.

Fox and Thayne are the detectives forced by circumstance to work together to solve the murder of the town's ex mayor. Each have issues in their personal lives to deal with and initially distrust and dislike each other. The murders are intriguing and the plot interesting as the investigation offers up a number of suspects and the paranormal element though slight adds a different dimension. The writing is good, the characters entertaining and the whole is an enjoyable read. I hope that there will be further books with these characters.

Really enjoyed this author. The story kept me engrossed so much so I banned myself from reading before work else I wouldn't go lol. Had worked out the 'who done it' and got a bit frustrated Thayne took so long to get there! There were a few typos and extra words here and there but not enough to spoil the read. Will definitely read more from this author!

Bouncer was a thoroughly enjoyable read. A good old fashioned detective story, with deep, believable characters and enough plot twists to keep you guessing until the last pages. Wyss is an author to look out for, and after reading 'Bouncer,' I'll definitely be snagging her previous and future offerings.

Excellent mystery. One of those enthralling books you pick up and think, "I'll just read a couple of chapters," and then you get to the end and it's suddenly 06.15 and you have to get up in a couple of hours.
Kept me guessing right up to the last few pages. Can't recommend highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Mystery

I enjoyed this book from the beginning. The story starts out with the gardener, Philemon, out in the yard working when a ball comes over the fence. The ball toss between him and an unknown drew me in. I kept wondering what was going on. As the story progressed the mystery deepened with an old murder from many years ago and a new one. They have similarities that make the detective believe they are connected. And then, there is a missing person thrown into the mix. Now, this is my favorite thing about the book - the two detectives. Lea Fox and Nick Thayne make an unlikely team, but they fit so well together in the story. She's smart but bitter. Instead of Thayne filling in as the detective, she thought it should have been her. The reader is given a lot of background on Lea. These characters are so well fleshed out that they seem real. This includes the tug of war relationship between Lea and Nick. I loved the way she roped him into giving her fifty percent. Another thing going for her is that she didn't freak out when Nick Thayne revealed his gift. These two characters work so well together for this story. Figuring out who the killer was turned out to be a difficult task. You won't know until you get the surprise near the ending. The author details the scenes so you feel as if you are there seeing everything in person. The reader is taken through the entire investigation with the team; interviewing the witnesses and suspects, and the gathering of evidence. The characters are all fully formed. Because I enjoyed this novel and it is the first book in the series, I would definitely read another.

Fantastic Book. I don't know how this has not been made into a motion picture. One of the best murder mysteries I have ever read. The characters are excellent, the story is original and keeps you reading non stop. I have an now a major fan of Tyan Wyss the author of this book. This story is better than or equal to any James Patterson or John Grisham books. The fact that there is no cursing, no sex is just icing on the cake. Pure written words than keep you involved from minute one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wild tale loaded with suspense
Reviewed in the United States on 19 August 2017
Every once in a while I come across a book that gets me into trouble because instead of writing, mowing the lawn, walking the dog or doing a thousand other things on my schedule I just keep turning the pages.

That’s what happened from the first chapter of Bouncer.

It didn’t take long to become acquainted with the main characters and begin to wonder if two such disparate humans could possibly work together to solve a heinous crime. Handsome ex-cop Nick Thayne and priggish private investigator Lea Fox were thrown together by fate and neither is happy about it, but differences in personality and professional methods aside, the town’s mayor has been gruesomely murdered and the short-handed local police department needs their help.

The story is enhanced by a web of deceit, the small town permeated by secrets held under wraps for decades until the pressure of relentless investigation bursts them into the open. Bouncer is packed with drama involving corrupt police and politicians, violent mobsters, infidelity, vengeance, rape and murder. With all of its twists and turns, it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for hours.

    Highly recommended.
