Whatever Happened to Nathan McKenzie? Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 50 ratings

In 2012, Nathan disappeared off the face of the earth and was never seen again. I am the only person alive today with any awareness of what happened to him. I am the only person in the world who actually knows what happened to Nathan McKenzie...
Would you believe your best friend if he told you he was a time traveller? Maybe you would if someone was willing to die to stop you from joining him.
Perhaps a journey marred by murder, deception and heartbreak could have been avoided if the warning had been taken seriously. Then again, maybe there was more to the warning than anybody originally thought.
Haunted by the contents of a newspaper article claiming he has never been discovered, Nathan searches desperately to uncover his unknown fate. Maybe his uncertain future can be avoided, but how many people will have their lives changed forever in the process?

What would you do if you could travel in time? Where would you go? Who would you visit? What would you want to change? And what would be the consequencies of travelling into the past and then into the future? These questions were answered with a great deal of plausibility, considering this is fiction. You do need to keep your wits about you as you read, because there is a lot to take in, but I couldn't fault the storyline, and applaud the writer for stretching my imagination.

Amazingly written with imagination, this is a tale that keeps you hooked to the very end. I experienced the feeling of not wanting it to finish because I was swept along, quite naturally, by the well-developed story. The characters were also very believable.

To sum up, this story is very, very good indeed, and the proverbial page-turner that makes you think. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I can 'see' the movie. I'm now going back to read the book all the way through again. Thank you, JackEddyOliver, for an extraordinary read!

I enjoyed this. The plot was great - Nathan, along with his friends Aido and Carl, have access to a time machine. The plot twists around, moving through time, with the characters overlapping themselves as they encounter different parts of their own stories in different years and eras. It was very well done and cleverly told, with what seem to be mysterious parts of the story being explained later.

The plot was great not only on the time-travel and story progression of the characters meeting themselves, but also in some plot twists I didn't see coming - but which really added to the story. We find out in various parts how characters' lives interact in some unexpected ways.

The pace of the book was good. It did have a bit of a new-author feel about the writing style which sometimes didn't quite seem to flow. Also a definite niggle for me was the use of capitals after speech punctuation which drove me a bit nuts - "Will you come?" Asked Nathan. "No way!" Replied Carl. However apart from that it was pretty well edited. Overall a really good read.

This was recommended by a friend, and I'm so glad I listened. A thumping good read, lots of twists and turns, but not so complicated that you lose track. I found it very difficult to put down and if this is anything to go by I can't wait for the next book from this obviously talented writer

I love time travel books when they are well written, and this most certainly is.I mostly read thrillers but a good time travel is a bit like a thriller really, just as unpredictable and exciting, some times as with this one they can even be thought provoking, very good book.

Time travel isn't my usual genre but the story is well told and wonderfully intriguing, if rather confusing in the second half.
Helped along by a pleasant relaxing writing style

It could do with copy editor to sort out a few syntax/sentence errors though

It's rare I only give 1* and even rarer to award two on the bounce !!! I need to download a tried-and-tested writer after I finish this review ! I like to see if a new author to me turns out to be a diamond in the self-publishing rough but I'm not doing too well with my choices at present.
I see this was released back in 2013 and maybe the author was a youngster back then as it appears his vocabulary is of a very young person. I'd seen enough only 2% into it. Years ago I would persevere with books I wasn't liking in the least but as I've aged I no longer invest my time in it.
For some reason he randomly capitalises the words Primary and City then writes "...rent a three bed roomed house"......this sentence strikes me as very juvenile, "...didn't start their friendship on the most successful of notes" and it's like the author is trying out varying words (which IS a good thing) but he selects ones that just don't read "right." as in, "We're here now," said Aido by way of an answer" and I gave up at this needlessly wordy sentence, "The final words were more to himself than to the now completely vanished Nathan." Another sentence a little further down I also spotted, which again reads oddly, "...asked Carl, failing in his attempt at an innocent tone...." We just didn't want to wade through SO many needless, additional words. It was too much like hard work for this reader.

I downloaded this book as it was by a local author but I struggled with it. It's about time travel and is well written in that the author doesn't seem to make a mistake when changing the time frame for the chapter. However, I found myself having to really think about what had happened a few chapters ago, and where in time the story had gone in order to understand the chapter I was reading. I prefer books that flow better and I don't have to think so hard in order to understand the story.

This is not my usual genre of reading, I am glad I did purchase the book. It gets a little difficult to follow the thinking at times and I had to slow up an think outside of our reality. It is based on science fiction and that not being my usual, it required a different perspective on my part. Excellent writing, thought provoking without being overly detailed background details.
